Hi Everyone

Really glad that i have found this site as i have got a real problem :help: and i dont know what to do....
I have been on the atkins for 3 weeks and have only lost 2lb!!!!!!!!. Now i did this diet a few years ago with fantastic results and thought that it would be the same this time round.
The only thing that i am doing different is i am drinking low sugar lemon squash instead of water (cant stand water). Now is this the reason that i am not losing weight. I dont cheat and all i have had, is the 2 week induction basics. I walk the dog for an hour every day plus work in the evenings stacking shelves at the local supermarket.!!!
Please someone help :help: as i am going abroad in 2 weeks and 5 days  and need to lose half a stone.
Many thanks for listerning

It might be the lemon squash. If it is low sugar then most likely it has carbs. Also post a menu of what you eat on a average day. That always seems to help on this board. :)

i know and understand about water but thats a crucial part is drinking the waterr to help flush out the toxins threw our system, i would try drinking the water for a week to see if that helps, i agree maybe hidden cards in that stuff, but remeber to always read labels to the max to make sure the true carb count, i dont stray to the easy fixes like flovored water or the low cab candy, i think they are just a fix and hurt you in the end, stay clean and you see the weight come off

Try drinking Crystal Light instead if you hate water. Or low carb iced tea

Water is essential. I didn't like water either, but you have to drink it. You may be retaining fluids. As far as crystal light and diet drinks. An occasional glass even one or two a day may not stall you but they can not be considered a replacement for water. Terry, post what you are eating. Are you eating alot of processed low carb foods? ie. atkins shakes or bars?

Hi
Thanks for your replies everyone. My typical day is....
B'fast - ommlette (2 eggs), 2 rashers bacon
Lunch - small bed of lettuce with a can of tuna, 3-4 slices cucumber
Dinner - 2 pork chops (or a chicken breast) with cabbage and runner beans
Snacks throughout the day - cold sausages
That is basically it, can anyone shed any light??
Thanks again everyone

You're 5'4", you only need to lose a total of 19 lbs to get to your goal weight. It's not going to come off fast. 10% in the 2 weeks of induction is the average, which you have lost. It's just going to take awhile, stick with it :)

terrijayne...I was a water hater too and still am. I like my coffee and Diet-Rite. If you read on this forum enuf you'll see the importance of drinking water. I drink a little over 100 oz/day now but it took a looong time for me to get there. Now, I drink a 14-oz. glass of water at one time using a straw and I don't have the water freaking cold--maybe 2-3 ice cubes. For some reason, the straw helps me get it down quicker. I do drink my requirement for water (along with coffee) before I allow myself a glass of Diet-Rite. (Yep, the same 14-oz. glass size). Try a straw. People also add a little lemon juice or lime juice to flavor their water but I, myself, dont like the taste. Good luck!

I see that you say you are eating beans? I am not sure what runner beans are, but what is the carb count on beans. I think you could have a few more vegatables, not sure because I don't know your how you are measuring the ones you are having. Also what about dressing on your salad? Finally are the sausages nitrate free? do you know their carb count? You would be surprised but some sausages have sugars in them. The atkins book states you need to limit processed meats ie lunch meats, bacon sausages, hot dogs etc. How about having hard boiled eggs on hand, cheese sticks( although cheese does stall some, I can eat 2 sticks a day without a stall.) Hope this helps. Good luck!!!!

I think that everyone is right about the water, sorry to say but there are alternatives. I don't know where you are from but wal- mart has a terruffuc water that is flavored and isn't carboniated. Myself and DH were drinking it almost everyday. I do see something else besides the water and the beans, when you say runner you mean a kind of green beans I am guessing becuase my grams always called green beans runners :) . What I see are the little sausages around here they have carbs and alot of salt. Salt will make you retain water and the carbs will add up, more so because you are using them for snacking. Try pepperoni chips, there are recipes on this site for them. Make sure you dab off the excess oil. Anyways someone else said not to expect too much that you are doing a great job and YOU ARE! Try starting a journal and posting what you are eating there are some on here who can give you great ideas and help you tweek your plan. Good luck and remember good exercise is very important too. :)

Water is crucial - and watch the sausages - make sure you look at the carb content in them, sometimes they hcan be quite full of fillers and such.
Good luck - i'm sure your weight will get on the downward scale soon!

thankyou all for your responses. I actually live in the U.K. and the runner beans are green beans. I have given up the sausages as they were 5g of carbs EACH, so i think i have found the problem and i got on the scales this morning and have now lost a total of 4lbs, hurrah!!!!!!!!!

Way to go terrijayne!!! :hyper: Hmmm...I'll have to go look at my sausages. Thanks for posting that to remind the rest of us to check the carb counts of processed meats. I, myself, get so many tips on this WOE from reading posts like yours and keep myself on track. I've got a loss of 5 with TOM visiting so I'm not complaining. If after TOM leaves and I stay the same, then I'll have lost 40 lbs. since I started Atkins which I'm definitely very, very pleased with. My body is starting to get in porportion pretty good (size 14/15 top and 16 bottom). Someone on this forum talked about a 40 lb. plateau. Anyone heard of this? What should I expect? I think I'm going to do the egg/meat during the week and then get my veggies in on the weekends. At least, eggs and meat are easy to put into Fitday. :) No customizing foods although I don't have any difficulty with doing that. Have a good week everyone!

Terri :) I am in the UK too - if you ever need any tips or anything then come on over to my journal sometime.
M&S do some mega low sausages and they're really nice too. You have to check on the back of them, but they're like 1 carb per two sausages. I think they're called Butchers Best or something like that.
Also, waitrose and sainsburies do chipolatas which are lower in carbs. You must check them on the back though before buying them!
I am really pleased that you are on the move now!!!

Good point about the carbs in sausages. I bought sausages when I first started Atkins. I didnt bother to look at the packet straight away but when I did they were 13 carbs per sausage! Think if you can get the butchers, pure pork ones, they are less carbs. Quorn sausages (if you like them) are also low carb - well virtually nil I think)

It's the sausages. British sausages are full of bread. They call it 'rusk' in the ingredients. If you need sausages get frozen bratwurst from Lidls. They are nearly carb free. The lemon sqush shouldn't hurt if you make it very weak.

It's a good idea to put your location in your profile - even if it's just UK. It lets people know where you are so they don't tell you to buy products which aren't available here.

The sausages can be a tricky one. Once I learned to read every the label on everything that I ate, I found that sausages can vary a lot in carb count. One of the best brands that I found were the Johnsonvillle sausages. 3 sausages for 1 carb count vs. 1 carb or more per sausage for many of the rest that I checked out. Hope this helps someone. Bye the way, I am loving this site. (I just joined)

Not all sausages are high carb. I buy Sainsburys pork an leek sausages. Approx 0.5 carbs per one ....mmmmmm
