Hi, i been on atkins over 9 months. lost over 1.5 stones or more. from 12.5 to 11 and even below. i am 17 and to be honest i have NOT matured at all. i look like a 13 year old, advantage of that is erm paying half price for bus fairs and all. recently i passed my driving test so i have to have insurance to make sure i dont get pulled over by the police.
when i mean i was on atkins i wasnt following it "strictly" i am a asian and you know what we all eat, (EVERYDAY) chappatti(indian bread). ready made packs range from 100g at 56g or carbs. and i have no idea the propper amount for my mum makes. i started by basic egg at brekkie. cheese or fish meal at lunch and half chappati with meat/chicken/fish/any other meat or veggies. plus salads in between. i was in ketosis and lost alot of weight. atkins strictly forbid any kind of break so if i lost that amount of weight it must mean something right ;)
i am now 11.5/6/7. i still look overweight. i need to believe in my self that i need to maintain the weight but i need to look like a man. i want to mature into a mans body as i still have a 13/14 year old body/face and all that. i am now currently on a mix carb limit between 20g-60g sometime more or sometime less. i cant keep up as i am missing fav. food such as pasta/spag(but i have heinze version of it) does "custom low carb" work? if i keep my self limit to 30g every day for a month of 2? can this work? because when i was on low cal, it failed. low carb(atkins) worked but when i went on low cal it completely failed. am i a low carb for life?
sorry for the story ;)
cheers

Hi, I would suggest you stick with the Atkins regime as you seem to be losing weight on it. You don't say what excercise you do, maybe join a gym if you can afford to, to beef yourself up a bit to gain a bit more confindence. Make sure you are eating plenty of veg/salads. Avoid chapatis, if your mum is cooking make sure she knows what foods to avoid. Eat lots of veg/salads and count every carb you eat-keep a diary. It doesn't sound as if you need to lose any more weight, but getting the hang of maintenance for life is tricky and the weight creeps up on you if you are not careful. Good Luck 8)

Hiya, the whole point of atkins is that you can go into maintanance and you can eat some of the things you couldn't eat before. BUT you must first learn what your carb tollerance is - that means that you have to work out what your upper carb limit is by gradually upping your carbs each week - so say week one you go for 40 carbs a day all week and see if you maintain your weight or lose - if you maintain that weight then you know that is your level. If you lose during that week then the following week up it again to say 50 a day. And so on. Once you have worked out the limit you can have a day then if you want to have something like bread or whatever, you can count it in like you ususally would for the week.

Good luck - you've done really well so far!!!!

Oh and one more thing, you'll be pleased you look so young when you're 40 and everyone thinks you're 25!!!! Don't fret about it - just keep on being healthy and happy :)

I am not Asian but I love Asian food including Chapatti's. But I suggest that you either half a Chappatti or a little rice which is lower in carbs then fill up with the veggie dishes. Maybe keep your carbs down at breakfast and lunch, find away to add the bread to your intake of carbs.

Don't worry about looking young. I've always had that 'problem'. Now I am 54 and people say I don't look a day over 40 - it's great.

If you want to look more manly, join a gym and get some muscles. That, and the growth hormone which lifting weights produces will help.
