Hello All....

First off I want to say that I love these forums. The advice is great, the support is amazing...and DONT EVEN get me started on the recipes!!! I come on the forum JUST to look at them sometimes.

But I have a question about the vitamins. Right now we are taking ONE A DAY CarbSmart multivitamin. And..as it says we are taking one a day.

I was comparing the ingrediants and such to the adkins basic 3 multivitamin and was wondering if we could take 2 of the one a days and have better results.

Is anyone familiar enough with vitamins to know if it would help...or hurt...or not do anything at all.

The only ones in the carbsmart that are over what atkins is recommending are these four:

niacin: (atkins-12mg) carbsmart x2 = 50 mg
biotin: (atkins-450mcg) carbsmart x2 = 900mcg
molybdenum: (atkins-60mg) carbsmart x2 = 150mg
magnesium: (atkins-80mg) carbsmart x2 = 200mg

Im not too worried about the magnesium (I dont think) because it says that at 200mg it would only be 50% of the daily value anyway.....unless Im getting ALOT in other stuff, but I dont know what I would eat to get it anyway.

Im not very knowledgable on vitamins and nutrients. Oh and the book says that a person over 200 lbs can take more anyway...so I wonder if those are ok doses.

Any help and or suggestions would be great! Thanks!!

P.S. I forgot, but here is the link for the ONEADAY CarbSmart and its ingrediants if anyone is interested.

Talk to your pharmacist. For some vitamins more is not better. In some cases the body just flushes the excess and in others too much can be toxic. Personally I think that doubling up may do no more for you than debit your bank account faster. I find I am eating better now than I ever did and although I take a one a day multivitamin I feel I need it less than I ever did on my old WOL.

The two B-niacin and biotin--are water soluble and will flush out if your body doesn't need them. You probably need more magnesium anyway, so that's not a problem. I simply don't know about the moly--it's a trace and you don't need much of those.

My own rule of thumb is that there's going to be a lot of wiggle room in most of the major vitamin brands. If you get into the higher-priced ones, you're more likely to be up against the edge of "too much."

Personally, I take tons of supplements, but not much in the multi- form. I hate cooking and dealing with food at all, and it's easier to supplement than to mess with trying to cover everything with what I eat.

YMMV.
