Hi All ! Has anyone found any information that discusses calcium and the low carb diet? It's been mentioned to me that the liver (or is it kidneys?) has difficulty with calcium during this diet. I was thinking that if there is a lack of calcium, then I could take a supplement to avoid any future problem, but if it is an overabundance (and when I think about all the cheese I eat!) then I should readjust my cheese intake, I guess!
Anyone have any info on this?
Many thanks, in advance!! Deb

There are lots of people going around saying that low-carbing will leach the calcium from you bones and overwhelm the kidneys in processing all the calcium. This is not true.

Common sense tells me that if one does not have strong bones, then the body would not build strong muscles. Protein builds muscle. Also, the fat soluable vitamins, A and D must be present to absorb calcium--found in meat. Iwould like to see a bodybuilder with weak bones! The people I see with weak bones, have very little muscle.

My thanks to Dodger and 32242 for taking the time to answer my question! The articles you provided, Dodger, are great and I found that they supported my feelings about calcium loss. Thanks! I am a really healthy, very active person and eat well. I'm not worried at all!
Thanks again! Deb
