Couple questions for you guys.
I just bought a package of Ketone Strips and they didn't come with any info booklet. It lists a tiny bit on how to use them and gives a color chart to go by on the side of the package. It says something on the side about inpregnation and in vitro. Are these used as pregnancy tests as well?
My other question is, I tried the stick last night and it was a darkish red color which listed that I am in Ketosis (or pregnant) . Now when you are in Ketosis does that mean that your body is in the process of loosing fat? or can you be in Ketosis and nothing happens? If I were to use the stick everynight and find that I'm in Ketosis should I assume that I'm loosing weight in the process? :help:
Need input. Thanks guys. :)

I'm not an expert (someone else may give you some clearer information  ) but from my own experience, any bit of color, other than the base color (my sticks have a base color of beige) means you are in ketosis & according to Atkins, that means you are burning fat. If you are losing weight at the same time, I think you can safely assume you are in ketosis.
My keto-sticks came with a lot of instructions/information. And although it does state "in vitro use" it doesn't relate to pregnancy. The dictionary states that "in vitro" as a adjective/adverb = in an artifical environment, outside the living organism (example - in vitro fertilization.) So I think when you hear "in vitro" you think of IVF - fertility treatment, where an egg is removed, mated with sperm and then put into a women's uterus.
I keep testing periodically to see if I'm maintaining ketosis - everyone is different, but if you are showing some color change, even if it is scant, you are in ketosis. I recently found that when I was sick and dehydrated, and I used the keto-sticks, I came up with VERY dark purple - but now that I'm able to drink more, the purple is much lighter now.
Hope this helps :)

Hi Jarcat, Yes if there is any change in color then you are ketosis, congratulations!! But don't get to hung up on these stix only use them as a guide. The color variation doesn't mean your losing more or less fat, or that your in a higher degree of ketosis. The color can change throughout the day depending on the concentration of your urine. The more water you drink the lighter the color, if it's dark purple it could mean you are dehydrated and need to drink more water. So don't worry too much about what your stix say, if theres even a slight change then your in ketosis. There's other way's of telling this as well! Sweetish metal taste in mouth, and weight loss!!!!
