Please use this thread to report any problems/bugs.
Please provide as much information as possible. It should be detailed enough to allow us to replicate the error, so it can be better understood.
For example "I went to the search page, and entered chicken in the search box, then click on page 2, followed by selecting the last entry on the page, clicked "Add to favourites", and clicked on the "go" button. That's when I got an error message that said "Selected date is not valid, please make sure you have entered the correct date".
The more details, the better :)

Hi Wa'il,
I'm not sure what you can do about this, but I think there may be a problem for Mac users.
Oyvey had the problem here, and I've just been exchanging PMs with another Mac user who has found that even though she clicked "add to favourites" for several items, when she goes to "Daily Entry" her Favourites box is empty.

That's alright. This happens when browsers cache images. If you don't see a change in a graph, just hit the browser's refresh/reload key.

Whenever I try and add Post CarbWell cereal I get this error, "Please enter the amount in numbers without additional characters." I know it's because the serving size is 3/4 cup and I've tried entering in both 3/4 and .75 as the amount, but because of the "/" and "." it won't allow me to enter it - is there any way we can enter foods like this or can we only enter food in increments of 1? Thanks. :)

Give it another try, you now can enter fractions, as 0.25, 0.5, 1.5 etc. :)

Got another one though, how about if you DO get an error there's a "back" button to go back to the work you've been doing. I keep getting different errors for whatever reasons and when I need to go back (by hitting the back button on the browser) all the information I've entered is gone - it's very frustrating to have to re-enter it.

I've decided I'm never going to get this cereal entered in - 30 minutes later and my next error is:
"The nutritional date you have entered are incorrect. Please make sure to enter valid data.
You have entered 110 calories, but the data entered totals to 118 calories. The formula to calculate calories is as follows:
Calories = Carbs x 4 + Proteon x 4 + Fat x 9 + Alcohol x 6.93
The data you entered comes to:
Calories = 118 = 14 * 4 + 11 * 4 + 2 * 9 + 0 * 6.93 = 118
Possible reasons are:
1. You did not enter the label data accurately, re-check to ensure accuracy
2. The label may have listed carbs by weight (including fiber) and not by difference. In this case, subtract the fiber from the carb count
3. The label is incorrect, or contains hidden carbs."
I know the label is correct, I thought carbs I only entered in carbs-fiber, so I initially wrote 9 carbs, but I got the same error. So I figured that it must mean all carbs, so I put 14... Neither worked. I think there should be some wiggle room like fitday has, if you're off by a few calories it'll still let you enter it in, it's only when you're off my a large % of calories that it won't let you enter it in... Being off my 6 or 7 calories doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Make sure you do not enter " or '', just plain numbers.
So for 5' 3", click on the "feet" button, and 5 in the first box, and 3 in the second box.

I take back the reply re: maltitol and sugar alcohol. These values are not yet available in the USDA-SR17 database. We'll be adding them as soon as they become available.
What's there right now is maltose, not maltitol., which I don't think is a sugar alcohol.

The ECC isn't subtracting fiber on the main page... It's the same as total carbohydrate.

The ECC isn't subtracting fiber on the main page... It's the same as total carbohydrate.
This is due to the fiber being subtracted already in USDA-SR17 database, which we're using. Only a small subset of the entries do not have the fiber subtracted, and those will show if the ECC option is turned on. So it's best to change the display to fiber (from the settings menu)

When trying to input Dreamfield's Pasta as a custom food I noticed that Protein was mispelled. I take it that there is probably no way yet to count the Dreamfields as 5 carbs per half a cup instead of the 42 or so it's currently listing at. With my luck it probably is worth 42 for me.

Dreamfield's Pasta allegedly counts as only 5 grams of carbs per serving. It is listed as 42 on the side of the box and the formula will not work properly unless I list it as 42-4 fiber for 38.
The typo is when the formula doesn't work ie. the example quoted above is the place where protein is mispelled.

Got the typo fixe :)
So the 5 grams of carbs is per serving, and the 42 grams is per box?
The tool will allow either one as a serving, as long as you enter the weight of the serving, or the weight of the entire content.
The 38 vs 42 can't be helped, as labeling regulations have run a mock. Some list carbs with fiber subtracted, some don't. Whichever way we go, there will be labels doing it the other way around.
For this reason, I made sure the custom food entry spells it out "Carbohydrate, by difference (fiber subtracted)"

The Dreamfields pasta is one of those low carb products. It technically has 42 carbs per half cup serving but they tell you to count only 5 due to their fabulous technology of adding fiber to the outside or something like that. Apparently they have done extensive testing to see to what degree it raises blood sugar.
It's kind of like the sugar alcohol conumdrum when it comes to figuring out net carbs on bars and such.
I suppose it doesn't really matter if today's food looks like I had 100 carbs ;)
Meal Carb Pro Fat Fib Cals
Breakfast 6.8 62.7 38.2 0.6 635
Lunch 3.3 67.7 57.0 0.0 815

This qualifies as a "claim" by a manufacturer, but will not be valid in term of nutrient calculations. Same goes for net carbs and any other forms of none-carb carbs :)

Trying to add my breakfast and everytime I use the food from my list or try to update the servings after it's on my list I get a screen that says "Results sorted by: Protein, in g , highest first"
I am not performing a search. I am just trying to update my menu as I have done the past 3 days.
In order for me to add foods I have to click on Food List and then add from there. :(
It will also not let me delete an entry I made in error. Sends me to the same search results screen.

I love the new feature on the custom recipe page where we can put in what type of serving it is - however, now when you do enter it into your daily foods eaten it doesn't list "entire recipe" in addition to "1 serving" like it used to. It now let's you, for instance, choose from "100 grams," "1 serving" or "1 serving." The first "1 serving" is actualy the entire recipe and the second "1 serving" is just 1 serving...
I hope that makes sense...

Morning, Wa'il,
Still having troubles with the PECC. I have some WASA crisp entered as a custom food. I am pretty sure fiber is NOT subtracted from labels here, so the PECC should be different from the Carb count. Eh, it's not. If I switch settings to fiber, than the numbers are right. PECC, not. :help:

Have you done the calculation to determine that it's wrong? List the numbers, and I'll see.
This PECC seems very confusing, so we might just drop it. But we can't just do carbs - fiber, if the fiber is already subtracted...

Looks like the fiber has been subtracted, and the numbers add up correctly, allowing for the 4g difference to be within the 10% margin margin.

Also a question, when I searched for baby carrots I got an option for a serving size of a NLEA serving. What is that?

Not weird, probably just clumsy :) It it doesn't find a result, irt shows nothing. I'll probably add a small sentence to the effect that no results were found.

It stands for Labeling and Education Act (NLEA). I'm guessing it's the "recommended" serving size, similar to the RDA percentages and such.

Wa'il, I have a discrepancy on the protein percentage between the Daily Summary and the Nutritional Detail screens for 2/15. The daily summary page and it's C, P, F barchart are both showing 36% protein. By my calculations, this is the one that is off. If you click on the icon for Meal Summary - Totals (lower right hand corner) and go to the Nutritional Detail screens the little bar chart for C, P & F shows 34% protein. Thanks!
Edited to add:
Also, on the View Nutritional Averages screen, if I select 2/13 through 2/15, it shows the average calories as 1517. When I add those days up manually, from the daily summary screens, the average calories is actually 1799.6. I didn't check the other numbers (carbs, fats, etc), so they might be off too.

I have entered in some supplements, if you want to make them public.

The list of favourites is currently limited to 50 items, so that explains why it stops somewhere. I'm still considering if it should go to a 100, or posts a warning message when the list is too big...
You can edit a custom item by clicking on it, and then you'll see the customize button, click that, and you'll be able to edit the item.

I noticed that on the Health Statistics, after you enter in data, the area where you can look at your results and edit data, the columns for LDL and HDL are swapped.
The number I entered in for HDL ends up in the LDL column, and the entered data for LDL ends up in the HDL column.

Hi Wa'il,
I am not sure if this is a "bug" or a feature request: Why can't I save a stated portion size when I add a custom food or add an item to My Favorites? For example, I added Splenda as a custom food and rather than save my setting of 1 gram (which is the size of one packet), it saved it as 1 ounce, making it 25.5 grams of carb. Last week I entered a custom 5.5 ounce can of V8 but it is saved as a one-ounce serving, so I have to adjust it every time.
I do realize that my default settings are for ounces, but does that mean I can't override those settings when I save custom foods and favorites? It would be so much easier if saving something saved the exact settings I used when I clicked the save button.
Does that make sense?

Sounds like you might want to use the custom size form.
On the custom food page:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/myplan.php?&do=custom
There's a link that says "custom size". Click it to enter your custom size, such as 1 packet, 5 grams, etc.

Wa'il, On the Nutrition Reports, Caloric Profile, it's showing data for the dates in March, but has the chart titled as February.
Also, on the Nutrient Profile, no matter what dates you pick from the drop downs, it's showing only March data. So even if you pick February, it shows March data.

I noticed a typo on the bulk meals page. The drop down menu spells multiple meals "multipe" or something like that.
Also could you double check the fried eggs carb count. I've been putting in 2 large fried eggs and the carb count for both was .8 and it should be .6 per egg at least I thought.

Small weirdness to report. I tried to delete some food items on my breakfast menu. I clicked the boxes to the right of each and used the pull down menu to delete them. When the page refreshed, the items were changed but still there. The text was deleted and all the C/P/F data was zeroed but the lines were still there and the size of the font and pie charts had nearly doubled. I selected them again and deleted them and this time they went away. I'm using an iMac laptop and Safari web browser.

Does this happen everytime, or just once? You can test with a future date, entre a few items, then try to delete. I don't have a Mac to test with, but my guess would be that it's due to a browser cache problem. Let me know if hitting "reload/refresh" shows the page correctly.

Water can be entered through a search for water (you can add it to favourites so it becomes handy for entry).
Recorded BF is entered from the measurements page (under progress & charts)

That's actually correct. You cannot compare it to the weight of the food, since fat has more than twice the calories of protein, per weight.

OK, I haven't read all 9 pages of the thread so this may be a duplicate bug.
I spent considerable time entering the nutrition data for a custom food only to have the program tell me the calorie level was incorrect and the item had hidden carbs. (It displayed some long formula for calculating calories.) There was no option for editing the entry and when I used the 'back' button on the browser, all the info was gone. My only choice is to re-enter the data from scratch.
Could you provide some way of editing a mistake instead of having to re-enter all that data?
Many thanks.

A glitch I've noticed is that after a search for the word sugar completes, the page is stretched out so that I have to scroll over...I imagine because one of the listings in there has such a lengthy description. It's happened with other search terms, but I can't remember what they were. It isn't totally bothersome since I can just scroll, but thought you'd want to know.

The stats on top of the messages are accessed via "User CP" at the left of the green menu bar above the posts. Click on "Edit profile" once you are there, and you will see where to make changes. Don't forget to click "save changes" at the bottom. ;)
To add a chart or ticker to your signature, go to www.tickerfactory.com
When you reach the last page, copy the info from the box that says bbCode and paste it into your signature.

I'm really not concerned about it for right this minute, but just didn't want 3 weeks to pass and it still to be saying that I'm at that weight/time on Low Carb. How do I go about fixing this? I do have weights listed for each day as well as some other info for each day of the last week. I'm not sure why it's not registering it all.
Thanks!

I just noticed that when I tried to create a custom food measured in teaspoons, it only posted 100 gram servings, way above the 2 gram serving I needed to count. I am guessing that 100 grams is the default and the program is unable to recognize anything less than that.

I entered my breakfast and lunch, but only breakfast shows up. In general, I do not find this set up very intuitive--more like it was designed by an engineer or computer geek. I keep having to hunt around to find pages. It would be great if there were little menus on each page so I can quickly find that page to calculate on, or that page that lists my menu du jour. Can Macintosh Apple type icons be added on?

You may have entered the lunch on a different date. Check the monthly view to see if it was placed elsewhere.

That's correct :) Any professional HMI design help wold be greatly appreciated.

Not sure I understand. The menu exists on ever page, on the left side.

I wish I could help, but I don't know what HMI means.
What I am trying to say is that visual cues are fabulous. The more the better!
Anyway, I'm just getting my feet wet, since this is the first time I've attempted to use a high-tech, mathematically based nutritional analysis program. But if I keep slogging along hunting and pecking, I will lose my enthusiasm because I can do it faster with paper and pencil. My low computer skills are obviously a detriment here, which is why I put people who have a clue on pedestals!! At any rate, probably once I get an archive of 'favourites' going, it'll save a great deal of time. I'll examine the menu on the left side more carefully,
Thanks.

I am trying to go into "Select a Food Category" and choose my foods. The first page will come up in the category that I chose but no matter which category I have chosen, page 2 comes up showing me shortening, and the rest of the pages continue with the shortening theme.
I have already refreshed, but that didn't change anything.

Okay here goes. After reading your instructions tonight I went to the top of the screen and clicked on the "My Plan" shortcut. And then clicked on "Daily Entry" on the left side of the screen. From the "Select From Food Category" pull down menu under the "Quick Selection" window, I opened the pull down and selected "Beef Products" and then clicked on the browse button next to it. The first page it took me to started with "Beef, variety meats and by-products, suet, raw". Then I went above that and clicked on the 2 of Page 1 of 15. The top entry was "Shortening frying (heavy duty), beef tallow and cottonseed. Clicking on 3 also brought up shortening entries, but when I clicked on 1 again it now started with "Salt, Table".
Now I clicked on the back arrow until it brought me back to the window with the "Select From Food Category" list. This time I chose Sausage & Luncheon Meats". The first window started with "Oscar Mayer, sandwich spread (pork, chicken, beef). Page 2 of Page 1 of 5 started with the shortening entry again.
These steps were done today, so it has now happened 2 days in a row and my computer was signed off between sessions.

I'm trying to figure out why when I go to the "recorded BF" tab under "Progress & Charts", the second graph is labeled "Recorded LBM vs BF, Aug-2006 - Dec-1969"?? I wasn't even alive in 1969!! So is the chart displaying the right thing (Aug-Oct 2006) and the label is just off or is it all off?
Oh, and my "calculated BF" always comes up as a red X box, when I hit show picture, it doesn't change.

when I had an after dinner snack I entered it as snack II but since I didnt have a snack I it went to the after breakfast spot
I think it would be better if the snack options were timed or stable ie snack I= after breakfast Snack II =after lunch Snack III=after dinner, this is how you would expect it to be entered given its place in the drop down box

Hi,
Not knowing what has already been reported I'll let you know two things I've noticed.
1) The chart that shows the weight loss indicates a date of Feb 07 when in fact it is still December 06 which is the date I am entering for.
2) You need to refresh the screen for the chart to show the new entry.
Neither is critical to the functioning of this great feature.
Thanks very much for making My Plan available! We appreciate your efforts.

This is regarding the 'Weight Chart'. Whenever I add my new weights into this tool, my weight chart (graph) does not refresh immediately. Not even after refreshing the page. It reflect changes after couple of hours.

I have a problem with Custom Foods. I entered a custom food Protein Shake-Carb Solutions with all the nutrients I have listed in my cookbook. And that is fine, however, when I enter it as a food for the day, the protein is listed as 8.6, the number for fat; fat is 3.4, the amount of fiber; the PECC should be 3.6, not 1.5 and the calories should be 169, not 71. Did I do something wrong or is this a bug?
 Also when entering some food can we have a listing for "one serving" instead of 100 g or tbs? I have a cookbook on my computer (Now Your Cooking) that I enter foods from and the total recipes don't have the food amts listed by grams but by servings.

For the first question, the numbers are relative to the portion selected. If you select a portion equal to the nutrition label, you should get numbers equal to those listed on the label.
For the second question, yes, you can enter a name for the serving. Just click the "Custom size" link in the custom foods form.

Dunno if this is the right place, but here it goes!
Seems as though things aren't being calculated right.
If a gram of protein is 4 cals, a gram of fat is 9 cals and a gram of carb is 4 cals, then THIS: 1.7carb 1.2pro 22.2fat = 207 cals is WRONG.
1.7X4=6.8 1.2X4=4.8 22.2X9=199.8 then the TOTAL CALORIES should be 211.4
I just added up all my foods doing that for all my entries and they are ALL WRONG.
Now, granted, it's only off by a few calories here and there, but that adds up and at least the addition should be right!
I'm only bein' persnickety because I have a target to hit (of cals, protein, fat and carb) and right now i'm ten calories OVER and it ain't so! It just doesn't add up correctly.
And what I'm adding up is NOT a custom food.
Thanks!

The 4/4/9 numbers you're using are approximations for the actual values. The values used are based on the USDA database.
Example: http://forum.lowcarber.org/myplan.php?do=details&item_id=23547
At the bottom, notice the factors used:
Energy Factors
Nitrogen factor 6.25
CHO (carbs) factor 3.87
Protein factor 4.27
Fat factor 9.02
So the tool is actually being more "persnickety" :)

I need the link directly to the food item you're trying to calculate, like this link is for beef chunk: http://forum.lowcarber.org/myplan.php?do=details&item_id=23547
If you're trying to calculate the totals for the day (because you linked to a totals page), it calculates each food item differently, based on the USDA values for each food item, each with it's own energy factors.
There's a large PDF file on the USDA site explaining all these factors.

It says 30 carbs, but isn't counting them in the calorie count.
Oooof.
I dunno how they can do that - the company, not you guys.
25 grams of carbs, then 11 grams of "other carbohydrates", so they do something wonky with the fiber to come out with that calorie count?
I think the most reasonable thing to do is NEVER EAT IT AGAIN!!!
Thanks again for all your help,
Julia
Just so you don't think I'm completely a freak of nature - I'm on a cut, and I need to hit my macros of 1400 cals, 114protein, 86fat, 44carbs and 25 grams needs to be fiber. So there ya go! Not a freak show here, just tryin' to do what I'm s'posed to do!

This might be a small bug to check out --
In the cardio log, it says I burned 156 calories for today's exercise. However, on the "Daily Summary" page, it says I burned 167 calories for today's exercise.
The 167 is what I was burning formerly (when my weight was higher), but its not correct currently.
I've checked a few pages back, and this is a patterned error.
BTW -- It's a great program, and extremely helpful. Thanks!

Looks like an error in the version we use of the USDA, and it happens tablespoon size, not with teaspoon of Walnut Oil. For now, best thing to do is replace 1 Tablesppon with 3 teaspoons to get the correct data.

Hi, Now I'm worried about the data for flax seed. The carb by difference data for 100g flax seed comes up really high, when there is only about 2g of sugars and 27 grams of fiber in the stuff. Is this another error in the USDA database?
cheers, tfup
You can always go to the USDA link to double check when you think there maybe an error:
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
Make sure you are comparing the same iten with the NDB number, which is shown to distinguish similar items.

Yup there is a mistake. That can't be the right carb by difference.

It's correct. For every 100 grams of flaxseeds, there are 28.88 grams of total carbs, 27.3 grams of which are fiber. When it says "by difference", it doesn't mean "net". I believe it's referring to the way in which they came up with the carb count. They didn't actually test how many carbs are in it. Instead, they measured the amounts of protein and fat, and a few other things like water and ash. They assumed that anything left over was a carbohydrate...hence the "by difference".
Ah, here's a better explanation!
By deduction, the FDA defines carbohydrates as anything that is not protein, fat, moisture, or ash. For the low carb dieter, this 'Carbohydrates by Difference' approach does not distinguish between conventionally-recognized carbs (which should be avoided) and those that are acceptable for all low carb dieters.source (http://www.lowcarbnexus.com/articles/carbsthesame.html)

Great job on your loss! I'm new to this site and when I entered my weight for the first time I put in 195. Then I started my diet the next day at 197.4, so I edited the 195. Now I,m on day three and entered my weight of 194.6. Now my post right hand stats read 197.4/195/145 with no progress%. It should read 197.4/194.6/145. Thanks 4 the help.

I have put entries in on June 1, 2008, but when I want to click on that date on the calendar in the left hand corner, it does not show a line under the date and clicking on the date is not an option. I can get to my data by putting in June 1 at the "jump to" date area, but not by clicking on June 1 on the calendar.

Today I tried to post my weight change twice under weight stats in My PLAN and it did not reflect on the graph. Even the dates on the graph are incorrect? Can you check it out and let me know?
Thanks

I just updated my weight graph, and it seems to be working okay. Did you try refreshing the page? I have to do that to get the new weight to show on the graph. Also, after you enter your new weight at the top (you can change the date there if need be), you have to scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page and click on Save.
If that doesn't help, I'm sure a mod will be along soon to help you out. :)

As much as I'd like 3 strips of bacon to only be 130 calories.... :)

So, 3 strips, which is what I usually eat, should show as about .4g carbs and 126 calories. (There is some rounding of numbers done when recalculating.)

The weight entries in MyPLAN don't connect with the data seen with your posts. To change those, go to UserCP on the left of the green menu bar, and click on "Edit Profile." Don't forget to click "Save Changes" when you are done. ;)

If you want to put a picture in one of your posts, it must be 400 x 400 pixels or smaller.
Avatar images must be the smaller of either 100 x 100 pixels, or 19.5 KB.

I noticed a problem tonight in the following item:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/myplan.php?do=details&item_id=10124
I entered 2 rashers at breakfast and 2 rashers at dinner, and the calories for breakfast were 200 less than for 2 rashers at dinner time. I also felt that nearly 400 calories seemed quite high for 2 rashers of bacon, and I did an independent internet search which gave a much lower count for 2 rashers (although that was not fried). I realise that some rashers are thicker or fattier, but I thought I might mention it in case the calorie count in MY PLAN is too high per rasher.
I'd just like to say thanks for the tool. I cannot tell you how much help it has been to me. I wouldn't have progressed so far in three months without it.

You didn't accidentally click on Cooked bacon for one entry and Raw bacon for the other, did you? The counts are quite different. The counts are different between pan-fried bacon and microwaved bacon, too. Just a suggestion. :)

Well, the numbers you gave work out properly, so I wouldn't worry about it.
25.4 X 4 = 101.6
34.9 X 9 = 314.1
0.1 X 4 = 0.4
Add the products together and the sum should match, or at least be very close to, the Kcals shown on the label. I get a sum of 416.1, which indicates that the numbers on the label are pretty accurate.
In addition, American cheddar cheese has 0.36g of carbs per ounce, so your English cheddar is right in the ballpark at less than 1g per ounce. I think you should relax and enjoy the cheese. Especially since Tamarian has already confirmed that there is a bug in the part of the program that produces those little icons. JMO, though. :)
