Has anyone ever taken a probiotic?

It is supposed to clean out your intestines and clear up any yeast/cheese/ blah blah blah problems.

I was taking it every day and scaled back to once/week. Since I've taken it, I have gotten 3 illnesses (2 sinus infections and 1 bad cold).

Prior to ever taking anything like this, I had not been sick for 3+ years even during induction.

Is this a coincidence?

 Your reaction is due to die off. This is a nasty result that happens in the beginning stages of getting the yeast out of your system. Don't let this side effect deter you. You're on the right track, but keep in mind that the probiotics can only go so far & is usually used as part of maintenence after the yeast is gone. You may want to check with your local health food store/herb shop to see what else they recomend that you take kill off the yeast that is in your intestenal track. After a couple of weeks of the "right" diet, yeast fighting herbs, & continued daily intake of the probiotics, the side affects will (or should) go away & you will start to feel much better.

Rob..

A probiotic is supposed to coat your intestines and add *good* bacteria back into it. I myself have not taken any but my son has. We have had alot of experience with them. Another option is to eat a LC yogurt a day and there are smaller amounts of the *good* bacteria in them. If you want any more info on them and what the best is to buy PM me and ill let you know. And no, I dont believe your cold has anything to do with that. take care and feel better soon.

A lot of the "experts" say that the total square inches of your colon is huge and therefore the largest organ of your body (is your skin # 1 or 2?). Therefore very important to keep it working right. So many things destroy the good bacteria in our colon -- chlorine in the water we drink, antibiotics, etc.

I have tried it but did not see any large difference. I would recommend it -- but there are so many great things (note the word "pro") you can do to help your body -- you can't possibly do all of them.

I take probiotics, both evening and morning (DailyDophillus).

It was suggested that I start these this past August -- by a health food/supplements store owner -- who seemed very knowledgable.

I had been having a LOT of problems with intestinal bloating/gas/etc. -- I started taking these and within 2 weeks my problems were lessening. Not perfect, but a heck of lot better.

Then around Christmas I stopped taking them -- and all my old problems returned. Needless to say, I'm back to taking them.

I think that some people (like me) must need a daily dose of all the good organisms, for some reason my intestinal flora doesn't stay "balanced" and the addition of the capsules really makes a difference.

The yogurt that was mentioned is probably more than enough for some people -- but the capsules that I take are many, many times stronger -- and I need this strength.

So I would suggest that you watch your body and how it's reacting, then do what's necessary to stay feeling well.

I keep a bottle on hand to take after a round of antibiotics. Not sure about what happened the last time--horrible stomach cramping, but that could as well have been good bugs setting up as bad bugs going away.

I've tried taking them regularly but they seem to make me crave more food, so I quit.

I had been having a LOT of problems with intestinal bloating/gas/etc.

I had the same problems before I started low carbing. After starting low carb diet -- no more problems -- even without probiotics.

However, I would still recommend probiotics.
