Hi,
Can you tell me if a person on low carb eating or Atkins can eat a chip or an odd pkt of crisps or a piece of cake ever again? can they be counted in your carb intake, i'm confused.
Thank you,
Broná

Its not as if your going to be eating 20 or less carbs a day for the rest of your life, its like just 1 plate of chips aren't going to make you fat over night its the constant abuse of foods which are high in fat and carbs that will.
Everthing in moderation and it won't do you any harm just keep an eye on the scales and it won't be long in telling you if your eating wrong.

Hi Brona,
for the start they are a big no no because they are so high in carbs, and at the start you really want to get all your carbs from vegetables or salads. With time you get to increase your intake of carbs, and you can get a bit more flexible with what foods you choose for your carb intake. It is always better to get the carbs from vegetables, salads, nuts or wholegrains, but but a chip here and there won't do any harm at a later stage, unless you eat an entire cake in one sitting ;-)
Have you heard of fitday.com??
You can enter all the foods you eat each day, and it will tell you the carbs, cals, etc of the food. It is quite handy, especially at the start when you are still trying to change your way of thinking about food ;-)

forgot to say, if you have a look in the recipe section, there is a whole load of delicious recipes that are great substitutes for chips and also great cake recipes.
Some of my favorites are the mock danish, the atomic cheese cake or the mock chocolate mousse, mmmhhh, getting hungry just thinking about them!!
If your craving chips/crisps, try the following:
take a slice of cheese and put it on some parchment paper. Sprinkle some garlic and paprika powder on it and then nuke it in the microwave for 1 minute. That's nearly like cheese and onion ;-)
