Hi! I'm currently following an allergy elimination diet that looks an awful lot like a paleodiet to me...

No dairy, no soy, no grains, no sugar (cane, beet, corn, fructose [except naturally occurring in fruits], glucose) or artificial sweeteners (stevia is OK), no legumes, no chocolate or cola containing foods, no processed foods, etc. Pretty familiar sounding stuff.

http://drcranton.com/elimination_diet.htm

However, I'm also not supposed to have any beef, chicken, pork, eggs, apples, citrus, shrimp, tea (including herbal!), tomatoes, mushrooms, and a great many other things.

I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out breakfasts. My usual breakfast in the morning used to be scrambled eggs with bacon or smoked salmon, but all of those are off of my list now. If I have a fruit-heavy breakfast, I have a blood sugar crash an hour later & feel hungry again. I have nut sensitivities, so those are also out... however, I have been including sesame seeds, tahini, hemp seeds, hemp nut butter, and hemp milk in my diet.

I'm also semi-rushed in the morning, so I can't sit down & eat a Cornish game hen for breakfast. I've tried sardines packed in olive oil or a lamb patty for breakfast, but those are hard to stomach in the early hours.

Help??

Yikes, that is pretty exotic sounding. The best I've used for allergy elimination is eating raw beef, tomatoes, raw egg yolks, unpasturized milk and unpasturized honey with the exclusion of everything else for a while. It's very simple and soups can be made from the tomato in the blender. The simpler the easier. I only use grassfed hormone/antibiotic free beef. In the morning I would have an eggnog of raw milk, egg yolks and unheated honey (not the same as what you find in stores) I've added in nuts... so now I have a "muesli" mixture either alone or with milk of raw sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, some almonds and hazelnuts mixed with coconut oil and honey. You don't need much of the raw honey to sweeten! 1/3 teaspoon will do.

Unfortunately, I can't eat any of the foods you just listed, with the exception of a little bit of honey.

Can I ask why you have not just had an allergy panel done?

I had both of my kids tested for all of those things (plus Celiac disease) and it was a simple blood draw... they did not have to do the skin test.

If nothing else I would draw up a list of everything you CAN (and like) eat and figure it out from there. WHATEVER sounds good is what you eat!

In theory, it's supposed to give my system a break from all of the allergens. My doctor and I talked about it a few months back & this is what he recommended. He & I also agreed that it was better to wait until after the holidays before I started it so there'd be less of a "cheat" factor. ;)

Well, how about fish? Can you have that? What about oatmeal? A lot of people who are allergic to wheat and other grains, can tolerate oatmeal. If you just have 1/2 serving and some fish, that should work.

There are supplements you can get that are strictly for an elimination diet. I mean it is a type of drink and other products as well. I think that maybe you shouldn't do low carb when you are trying to do an elimination diet. You will be limited to only water at the rate you are going.

The Alpha Nutrition Program gives you supplemental meal shakes that contain no allergens. I have heard it is good, but I don't know myself.

Fish I can have, oatmeal I can't. Oatmeal is a grain & they are not allowed at all. I can't have the meal shakes, they are processed foods.

I have to eat low carb because of my blood sugar, otherwise I'd have no problem with having fruit for breakfast.

Some fruit and some fish for breakfast, though... that's a possibility.

This Alpha Nutrition is strictly for elimination diets. Doesn't contain anything you can't have. But it may bother your sugar. I don't know exactly what is in it. I had a girlfriend that used it, said it worked for her, and she is much better since she got rid of the toxins in her body. But I looked at hers and opened the jar and ugh! what a smell!

I can't find an ingredient listing for it, so I can't guarantee that I can have it.

I have to admit, it's weird having someone recommend a shake powder to me in a paleo forum.

Edited to add: I found it contains canola oil. That's a no-no for me.

Well, I am a realist above all and it has to be hard to try to maintain such a diet when you can't have hardly anything.

I can still have turkey and duck and fish and game meats and lamb... I wouldn't say that I can't have anything. I'm just stuck on breakfasts & was hoping to get some suggestions.

oh, sorry

Maybe it's more that you need to move away from what we all grew up with (that breakfast should be cereal, pancakes or eggs etc.) and change your mindset to what breakfast is. ????

If you have a meat grinder or a food processor, make yourself some sausage. I used to mix up a big batch, make it into patties, freeze them on a cookie sheet, then stuff them in a plastic bag. In the morning, I pulled out a couple of patties, threw them in a pan on low. By the time I was done dressing, they were nearly cooked and ready to be flipped.

Of course, if sausage is to hard on your stomach in the moring, you could make yourself a rich broth. You could microwave a cupful in the morning and drink it like a tea.

Yes, exactly. I'm having trouble thinking "outside of the box" right now, and was hoping someone might suggest something I hadn't considered.

I do like the sausage and the fish suggestions... I'm not supposed to have many spices right now (something that frustrates me to no end!! :tears: ), but I might be able to make something sausage-like with my allowed seasonings and some freshly ground goat meat that I have.

Hi, I'm going through the exact same thing. I am on Atkins and doing the allergy intoleance thing. Wow, it's tough. I elimating just cream and nuts last week and had an immediate 9 pound water loss (whooshie). This made me look further into it. I want to find other culprits as well. I decided to do it in steps. This week I've eliminated all dairy and eggs. Next week I'll give up Flax meal and tea. Etc...etc... Good luck, this is tough....but will be so worthwhile. Trish

Yup....me to! It is a thin thing too! I was stalled for 4 months! As soon as I gave up the nuts and cream, I started losing again. I have not had to give up tomatos, tea, and other stuff. I gave up all dairy, nuts and splenda and now feel soooooo good. I am losing weight nicely now. My keto sticks are always dark purple! I had ranch dressing yesterday. I learned it was made from buttermilk. It knocked me out of ketosis! That is how sensative I am to dairy! I just have to stay away from that stuff or I will not lose weight! AAARRRG, life is tough without cheese, but I am getting use to it. Trish

Ok I still don't understand!

If you KNOW you have allergies to certain things then yes you HAVE to avoid them.

But eliminating a million things at once when you have no clue if you are even allergic to any of them makes no sense! Maybe if you were eliminating them one by one over a very long period... you MIGHT find one. But avoiding so many things to give your body a break from the allergens? HOW are you supposed to tell which one it is? Is the doc trying to tell you that you are allergic to all of them?

You HAVE to have some sort of testing to tell you for sure what you MIGHT be allergic too!

So when I asked why you did not just have a simple blood test done... you never really answered.

Geez any doctor that did not test me and just told me to stop eating everything.... I would NEVER go back to!

Do yourself a favor...... just test!!!!!!! There is NO sense in dropping all those foods for no real reason!

I did have an allergic test and it came back negative for wheat and gluten, but I know by experience that I have problems with one or both. So the elimination procedure helps with identifying any sort of problem with eating a certain food, not just allergic reactions. Also, I'm on the same limited diet for 3 weeks for a liver cleanse. It's food that's easy on the liver and gives it a break. I also take herbs that are healthy for the liver. After 3 weeks I'll be adding food back one every three days and watching for reactions. I'm drinking a product called Thorne MediClear and it's based on rice protein and nutrients. It's 7 carbs per serving. I started out with one serving a day and the meat I'm allowed, but for this middle week, I'm off all animal proteins and taking this drink 3 times a day. It's my only protein besides nuts and avocado. I'm surprised I'm losing weight, since all I'm eating is veggies, salads, nuts, and seeds. I'm filling up on nuts and avocado! I'll be sooooo glad when this is over, but I feel it's worth it.--Gail
