Hi all, I have been hanging around here for months now, trying to start again and agian on the SBD. I would do it for a while then quit. I have never been good at sticking with it as far as a "diet" goes.

BUT~

I am looking to change not just how I look but how I feel.
I just got home from the doctor and have gained 4 lbs. since the begining of Dec. I was so bummed with myself.
I am so tired of feeling out of control, of not believing in myself enough to do it for me.

I guess I am just saying that I need some "friends" to support me and help me out a bit.

I have to be good to me, I have to see myself as worthy of a better life. One where I can chase after all my nieces and hopefully one day soon my own babies without getting winded after a coup;e minutes.

I guess I am finally desperate enough to go through this and change my life for myself. Because I am worthy of a happy healthy life.

Thank you for listening. And anything you can offer me in the way of support and encouragement.
You are a great group of people here!
Good luck to you all and I wish you all the best!

Jamie
P.S. I am not waiting for tomorrow to start, I am
going to start tonight with dinner, why put it off???

I'm still in my first two weeks so I know how it goes... And honestly, it gets better. I'm on day four, still craving some sugar, but for the most part I feel good... Better than I've felt in a while. And I actually looks forward to eating, because everything tastes so good.

And I'm finally learning how to cook and prepare food (another of my goals for 2005) because I have no other choice with this way of eating. My husband says that if he had realized all it would take to turn me into a good housewife was taking away my Pepsi, he would have done it ages ago.

The only tip I can offer is throw out all the forbidden foods. If you can't do that, put it up where you need a stepladder to reach it, and then get rid of the stepladder. I had my husband (he's 6'4) put up all the stuff he'll still be eating (ramen, pasta, brown rice, wheat bread) up where I can't reach it. I won't see it much, since it's not on eye level, and if I rarely see it and can't reach it, it keeps me from wanting to eat it.

You can definitely do this. Just take each day as it comes, and we'll be here cheering you on.

Thanks guys, these first days are so hard for me. But this time it is going fairly well compared, I guess. LOL
I have had some trouble getting completely "on" we just have so much junk and I can't go grocery shopping for another week, but I am making due with what I have. Anyway, I am going to try to start a journal here on the site, so I hope that will help me be more aware of what I am doing!

Anyway, thank you again, and good luck to both of you! I think we can all use that!

Talk with you soon!
Jamie

Jamie, welcome to the Beach!

As one of the old timers here (nearly 13 months on South Beach now!) I can say, yes, it works!

You might also consider posting in the triple digit club for some long term support - this is not something to be done with in a few weeks! I won't offer mine because I am less frequently on this forum.

But I had a sort of buddy that emerged (PSTAR), often this happens with people with similar attitudes, goals etc. You can find buddies here for sure.

But one of the most important things for you now is to start a diary. I believe you can do that by clicking on your own name - somewhere there, or go to the first entry in journals, where it says how to start a journal. A lot of the "action" in this forum, support, exchanges, and fun, is happening when people visit each other in journals. When you got a nice response to a post, click on the green journal button of that person's message. Many people post their menus as well as their frustrations, successes and questions in their journals. Start yours, and you will not regret it even if you don't write a ton!

Last, even though Atkins and Agatson don't stress it that much, do start some exercise. I started simply walking (not tonight - snow storm in Michigan) - I actually started mostly Sunday mornings before everyone got up. It is better than nothing, and helps you get to like moving.

I'm not shooting for losing in the triple digits, but the triple digits club (http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=49) is one of my favorites to read. They all really inspire me. I agree that you should definitely check that area out.

Don't let the fact that you are starting again get you down at all. I have started to "do something" about my weight many times and it resulted in being way too heavy and starting SBD. This time I will make changes because I have come to several frank conclusions:
1. "My way" was not working and will never work. It has led me to this highest weight ever.
2. If I do not change my life and reduce my size, I will die long before I should.
3. The SBD is clearly not a diet. It is a guide to proper eating I can follow that will cause me to lose weight. I am eating carbs in phase 1, just the good ones. One week into SBD and I have lost 10 pounds, but then again I have a lot to lose.
Focus on that mind set and emphasize the way of life rather than being on a "diet". Being "on" anything implies there will come a time when you you will be "off" again. So hang in there and do the undiet diet.

Hi guys!

It so great to see some men in here too!! :D

If I may make a suggestion, start a journal here. I use it to log all my food daily. It helps me to be accountable. It also helps other newbies to see what a bit of a veterean has been eating. You can also use it to make notes of your emotional states. It has helped me in being to go back and see what I;ve been eating when losing or stalling.

Its a big committment to do this but its one that I never would do before because I did not want to be accountable....this time I do!! :D We'll check on your journals too to see how you are doing. There is alot of socializing that goes on in journals too and tons of support!!

I have joined challenges in the Triple Digits Club and these help me to stay on track. We have a new one called Winter 2005 Challenge, if you like, you can join us!!

Welcome to The Beach!! Hope you do well!! :agree:

Thank you all for the support. I have lurked around the triple digit forum for a while. I guess it has just been hard to "fess" up to needed to lose that much and really believing I can do it. But I did post a similar thread to this one there too. Thanks for the direction though.
I have started a journal, although it has been a very rough few days and my entries are a bit on the negative side, although getting those feelings out has really helped get my mind set back in check.
I am off to the kitchen. Read my journal if you want to know why!
Thanks again,
Jamie

Ps Judynyc, how long have you been on SBD, I mean to get half way there? I need some good sucsess stories to appease my curious nature! LOL

HI!
I started South Beach at the beginning of last May. It was rocky at first but once you get used to it, its really easy and wonderful!! :agree: :D

I have lost about 10 pounds per month. It does get slower as you get closwer to your goal. If I can do this, anyone can do this!! Just be patient and keep focused on small goals, like 10 lbs at a time. Don't think about the total!! Look at small steps!! :agree:

Join our Winter 2005 Challenge in the TDC. Its fun and we all report our loss for the prior week on each Monday.

You CAN do this!! :cheer:

Thank you! I am just so thankful there are people here to help me through this. I think that is what will make the difference this time. I am not alone, I am not without support of people who understand. I have all of you and that makes me even more hopeful!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
God bless,
Jamie

Hey Jamie,
I'm in my 7th day of phase 1. I've stopped & started phase 1 several times in the past 12 months (got right though it once). This is only the second time I've got this far - and I feel really good. The first three or four days are the hardest by far :-)
Go for it !
