How about it??

I definately need one. I've been off Atkins since the 25th and won't go back until monday the 3rd of January.
I'm a bit scared to go on the scales at the moment, but I'm most definately up at least 6 pounds, so my goals/changes are as follows:

1) Go back to Induction, strict for at least two weeks
2) Go back to drinking about 4 liters of water a day
3) Go easy on the nuts - I have 1 kg of Walnuts, but they are in shells, so don't think it will be easy to overeat on those. Anyway, not going to eat any of these during induction
4) Stop making whipped cream with cocoa, its really really tasty but a def. no no
6) Starting an Asthanga Yoga class on the 11th Jan, (8 week course) and will go there every week - no excuses
7) Do my Kung Fu training twice a week - no excuses
8) Just in process of breaking up with the b/f, so have a whole lot of time on my hand, which I can spend practicing Yoga and Kung Fu
9) Re-read my Atkins book, just to make sure that I am actually doing the right thing
10) Find a car, because Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann are a joke
11) Try out at least one new recipe out of my Low Carb Cookbook (Dana Carpenter). I've started to cook the same things over and over and am getting a bit bored.
12) Go back to filling in all my details into fitday.com
13) loose, loose and loose ;-)
14) Havent decided what I want to do about weighing myself. So far have been doing it everyday. I know a lot of people say that once a week or even every two weeks is better, but I like it doing it everyday, it makes it easier for me to figure out what is going on.

that's all I could come up with at the moment...

So come on in and join me!!

ok, so far nobody wants to join me..... I'll give you a bit more time then!!

Anyway, its monday, I started back on Atkins today and I weighed in this morning at 78.4 kg!!! What a shock to the system, most definatly not ever going to go off Atkins ever again!! Also measured myself this morning.

Hi Gagalina,
Not much point in me joining your challenge as I have been stalled now for about 3 months :( , although I continue to watch my carbs faithfully and don't stray very much at all. Luckily, I haven't put on any, so I guess I'll just have to 'weight' it out until it starts to move again!
I replied so that you wouldn't feel like a voice in the wilderness, but I'm sure that this time of year will bring more fellow challengers in soon.

Hey Babs,

a stall for 3 months.... That sounds horrible!! I wish you all the best to get out of it soon!!

I have VHI and on their website for about 3 euro a week, they can design a diet for you. They have all the low fat stuff, (no low carb) but they also have the Low GI diet. For the fun of it I entered all my details and according to them I could be down to 72 kg by the 11th of Feb on 1500 cals a day. Sounds cool, but I'd rather stick with Atkins, its free and enjoyable and normally I stay just above 1500 cals.

I found Carb Options in my local Tesco (Stoneybatter) I was really surprised!! They have various soups (mushroom, asparagus and I think tomatoe, pasta and some pasta sauces. The soups and sauces are quite low lc which is nice, so it might be a handy thing if you're in a hurry, but I think the pasta at about 34g of carbs is more something in very small portions or for maintenance at a later stage. I'm quite impressed with my tesco!!

I haven't weighed yet have left that trial till tonight. I expect to be up lots as I ate and drank everything withing touching distance durning the break.

I havent seen any of the Carb Options foods yet but i did see the TV ads over christmas. Will try them out after a few weeks.

Good Luck

Hi Dave,

I saw those TV ads also and was quite surprised and then when I saw them on the shelf in Tesco I was completely gobsmacked ;-)

I think nearly everybody is back on induction after Christmas.... I was going to be good, but 3 weeks in a row at the weekend I had things on where I had to eat "normal" so I took the last week off and I was going to be good, but all these pastries, cookies, crips, etc just kept smiling at me and I gave into temptation quite a lot. By Sunday I still had a good bit of high carb food in the house, so I gave them all to a surprised friend that came over on sunday - He was happy!!

Hope you don't get too much of a shock when you go on the scales ;-) I know I did!!

UK Tesco has launched its own range of LC, which is apparantly less than 10 carbs per serving - Pizza, muffins and God knows what else. Sooooooooo, will they hit Ireland before we're old and grey (well, actually I'm both of those anyway!)
The CarbOptions stuff is too high for ANY real LC dieter, although the tomato sauce is nice and fairly OK in carbs. I prefer to make my own sauces - much lower in carbs and generally far nicer than any packet or jar, LC or otherwise.

I didnt actually read the label properly, the soups have 10 carbs for 300 ml and the sauces have 5 carbs per 100 g, so must have gotten a bit confused when I first saw them.

Tesco already had them 50% off yesterday... So not sure whether nobody is buying it and they are trying to clear the shelf space or whether they are trying to coax people into buying them??

So how is everybody doing???
I feel like a packet of Buffalo Hunky Dorys (I love them but for some reason when I was off Atkins I completely forgot to have some)
Glad we dont have them at work so I'll ignore the urges by drinking more water - hope it helps...

So far I've been good with my list of things that I want to do, but I did have some whipped cream with cocoa, and I did have some peanuts yesterday, I was in the pub after Kung Fu training, didnt have dinner and everybody around me was munching away, so I had about half a bag.

Hope you all have a nice LC weekend!!

Just found this website and am delighted. Have been on lc since august but went off it over christmas. Put on a couple of pounds, thought it would be more. have been on strict induction since last monday and have just lost a bloody pound. Feeling really pissed off with myself. Kids are back to school tomorrow so hope to get a bit more exercise.

Hi Aofe,

welcome to the board and the challenge. There is sooo much info on this board, I was amazed when I found it and it has been helping me do Atkins since I started (in August, just like you).

I've been quite good this week, just lost over 6 pounds on induction, wish this was "normal" but I think its just due to the fact that I put on weight quick over Christmas, so its going to come off quickly also, probably a good bit of water . I don't really care as long as weight is going down ;-)

I was naughty yesterday though, I had nuts, yogurt and an Atkins Bar. I was in town, going to the cinema and just had them as snacks - not really induction food, but better than popcorn and wine gums!!!

Also measured again today, no loss execpt 1 cm around the neck???

Keep up the good work and let us know how you are getting on...

Hi Gagalina,

Thanks for your reply. Was baking biscuits for the kids yesterday and just could not resist some home made cookies. Anyway enjoyed them but am back on the diet. Went to the gym too - the first time since november. Am very impressed with you loosing weight during induction. Still no more weight loss. Heard about a shop in Portmarnock that sell the low carb bread. Dont suppose you know the name of it and where it is.

Spoke to manager of Dunnes Stores and Eurospar in Blanchardstown giving out over their lack of supply of low carb foods. They said that they were expecting a full delivery of low carb foods but just dont believe them. It is great being able to talk to other low carbers. Thought i was the only one. the health food shop in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre beside Mothercare stock a great selection of low carb bars and the sweet and low milk chocolate bars that have just a trace of carbs.

Keep up the good work. Dont suppose there is a low carb shop/website in ireland. ordered through the UK and for what i spent got very little.

Aoife

Hi Aofe,

for LC bread you should try the Tesco in Stoneybatter (just off the north circular road)

They have LC bread (from Johnson Mooney and O'Brien) and at the moment all the Carb Options stuff is still half price.

I dont know the place in Portmarnock... Wouldnt even know how to get there ;-)

I've never seen any LC stuff in the dunnes in Blanch but I do like the Nature's Way shop - did you ever try the LC Rolo?? Tastes just like the real thing and the sugar alcohols arent as bad as the ones in the Atkins bars.

There is a thread here about somebody wanting to set up an Irish Online LC Shop, but I dont think that took off though.....

I was thinking about ordering the Da Vinci syrups from the UK, but too much hassle with postage and the likes. They only think I ever orderd from the UK was soy protein powder and whey protein powder and that was nicely priced and postage was free.

I was only on Atkins for about 3 weeks when one of my american cousins was over and she baked american chocolate chip and pecan cookies every day!! It was such a hard job not to eat them - especially when they were coming fresh out of the oven!!

good on you for heading back to the gym - we have a gym at work but havent gone since I sold my car - carrying all that stuff on the bus and getting up earlier is a bit annoying, but started a yoga class yesterday and god do I feel it in my bones!!

anyway, keep hassling the guy from Dunnes and keep up the good work

Hi Gagalina & Aofe. The ole christmas caught up on me, weighed in on tuesday 4th and was +7 lbs. Enjoyed putting every one of those bad boys pounds on. Enjoyed a strict 1st week of induction and lost 4 of those lbs, so back on track now.
Bought most of those carb option products from tesco jervis center last week but as i'm on induction they are stored away for later use. Like the sound of some of those tesco products mentioned by babs, lc pizza, only one word for that, nice, will be keeping my eyes open for those.

You both sound very motovated( gym & yoga). Afraid I can't get myself into gear on that front, to much soccer on tv to watch.

Keep up the good work, talk to you soon

Hey Dave,

they had the LC bread reduced yesterday in Stoneybatter also, so bought a loaf and put it in the freezer ( I had a slice also, not bad - not really induction food, but I was low on carbs anyway)

Congrats on the loss!!! I enjoyed Christmas and the food also, but glad the weight is down again, just hope it'll keep going on that way.

As good as Yoga is, my arms are killing me!! The muscles are soooo sore, trying to push a door open or reaching over the desk to pick up the phone is hard work!! Think I'll have to warm up a bit better before Yoga or go a bit easier... My flatmate started yoga also and her stomache muscles are so sore that it hurts her to laugh ;-)

LC pizza sounds nice - pizza is the one thing I most def eat when I am off LC, just really really love it!! In the UK forum somebody mentioned that Aldi is going to introduce a LC range... Hopefully if it takes off in the UK, we might be able to get it over here also at somes stage.. I might be in Aldi at the weekend, I'll ask, they might have more info.

Maybe just look for some sort of sports that you really enjoy? If you like soccer, get a couple of likeminded friends together and head for the park at the weekend or something like that...

Have yourselves a lovely LC thursday!!

the geek that I am, I actually weigh myself nearly everyday and put the weight into an Excel sheet.... (I have little graphs and everything)
I was bored yesterday and started playing around with it and figured out that in the nearly 6 months on Atkins I actually lost 30 kg, but unfortunately also gained 20 kg, leaving me with my net loss of 10 kg ;-)

I'd say 10 kg of the ones that were lost and gained were probably caused by little high carb escapades and Christmas and the other 10 kg just the normal weight fluctuations caused by water, etc...

Damn high carb escapades and Christmas!!!!

Hi Dumbletore,

glad to have you back!! How long were you gone for?

In the last week I actually gained a pound ;-( Overall I think the calories were just too high. I discovered Mascarpone and my love for it (mixed with splenda and cocoa powder) amongst other things.
I'll try to barr it this week and do a clean week. I got some Atkins Accel tablets (half price in Boots St. Stephen's Green shopping center, and got a free Atkins Caramel bar), so since this is the weight that I was stuck on before Christmas, if it doesnt shift - even a little bit - I'll give it a try for next week.

How has everybody else been doing??

Hi guys,

Am so confused and fed up and mad with myself. Is it true that when you are on and off atkins that it does not really work anymore. Family was lecturing me AGAIN about the bad effects of atkins and came off it. Am back on again. Need to keep weight off. Jeans were really tight this morning so just put on the safe tracksuit. Hope it works. Not feeling the energy levels normally associated with the first few days of atkins. Please help.

From what I read on the boards/in books, it's not good to keep confusing your metabolism by chopping and changing. This is a way of life and you need to be convinced that it's right for you if you are to be happy to stay with it for the long haul. I'm convinced that it works for me - maybe you might read up some more so that you can muster the arguments for yourself first and then you won't feel so vulnerable when your family attack it. Losing weight healthily without hunger and keeping it off is a great way of having the last word!

Hey Everybody,

well, I fell off the wagon big time on tuesday, havent got a clue what happened and I just couldnt get back on again until today.... Ashamed and disgusted really, I just ate whatever I saw and wanted, no stopping me even if I was completely stuffed. I was feeling a bit down, with January beeing a horrible month, breaking up with the boyfriend and things like that, I just didnt care what I was putting into my mouth!! Just hope that never happens again cause I felt rotten!!

I agree with you Babs and Aoife, getting on and off Atkins is not good, your metablism just gets thrown around and that is what I've been doing since just before Christmas, so gotta be strong and get my act together!!! I like LC, just have to be kept away from temptation ;-) (It all started when my flatmate brought some swiss chocolate with her from home)

Not a lot of people know that I am on Atkins... One girl at work and the ex boyfriend, and of course my Lowcarber friends here ;-) I think there would be a few discussions about atkins and I'm not really good at remembering all the facts about why this way of eating is better. Although I have to say all the people at work always look at my lunch saying "oh that looks healthy"

Anyway, do what you feel is best, it's your body - so your decision.

Whoopee I'm back on track Induction again, Stared yesterday morning and back on track after about 6 months off it. I started Atkins last January and with a lot of success and lost nearly 3 stone over six months but fell back into eating as before, I don't regret falling back into my old routine because I enjoy my food, but at this stage enoughs enough and I going to lose it all again (He says to himself).
This time I' going to make a few changes, by increasing my excersize  routine because I've joined a gym but I like the Atkins diet and it is possible to stick to it because I've done it before so hopefully I'll do it again.

One mistake I've started with is that I'm going to spain for a week in Feb just after my induction peroid, ah well least I've started.

I'll posting alot more frequently now

How's your induction going so far Dumbletore? I started again on monday, and so far so good... Just have to make sure there is no temptation and enough of LC food in the house.

Dear Gagalina,

Glad to hear that i am not the only person having problems sticking to the atkins diet. The nerd that i am i have put up a poster on the kitchen presses listing the foods i can eat and all about drinking water during the day. Boots are having 3 for 2 offer on all atkins products. They are also bringing out their own line of low carb high protein bars and drinks. Bought 12 bars today! and was mortified walking up to the check out desk with people staring. It only worked out at 11.60 for all 12 bars!

Have stuck to atkins since last wednesday and am doing ok but NO WEIGHT LOSS. Used the urine ketone strips and am in ketosis so weight loss will happen soon, i hope.

Congratulations on getting back onto atkins.

I am Rebecca from USA and yes, my father's incesters was from Ireland. Great grandma and great grandpa came to US from Limerick, actually, great grandma was born in Dublin and moved sometime in her youth to France, then they teamed up together somewhere and came to USA, had grandpa and then he discovered grandma and made my daddy, which I think was the most wonderful man that walked the face of this earth.... til I discovered my husband. When I was little I wanted to marry my dad, found out that I couldn't (due to a jelous mother, lol. JUst kidding, when I was a little girl that thought I could marry her daddy, found out that I couldn't, so I looked further for my prince charming and found a wonderful man that could meet up to my expectations. DARN the father that put his son in law through such obsticles. My hubby has LOTS of IRISH in him, we had a daughter between us (still with her daddy after 27 years and she's getting married June 11) and am still in love with him. So can I please, please, please join your post????

Hi Aoife,

glad to be back on Atkins, so much more fun. I found Carb Options Ketchup, BBQ Sauce and Mayonnaise in Tesco yesterday. I think it was about 4 euro per litre, so about 2.25 per bottle. I got the BBQ sauce at 8g of carbs and had it with some chicken and lettuce for dinner yesterday, mmmmhhhh

Everytime I'm in Boots (Hi Rebecca, Boots is a big drugstore over here) I wanna buy soo much since its soo cheap, but if I have the food around, I will just eat it, so the last time only bought the vitamins and one bar. Boots is coming out with their own range, cool, although I try to stay away from these things and try to be a bit more "less processed foods".
In my room I have some pics of a thinner me on the wall and next to the door at eye heigt, so when I leave the room I can look at the thinner self and remember to stick to it. Half the time I eat too much I just simply forget that I actually really really wanna loose some weight, so I think I'll put up a big note in the kitchen also and maybe some more in my room.

Where do you get the Keto sticks from?

Are you back on induction?

Hey Rebecca,

Welcome to the Mad House ;-)

Don't worry about marrying your Dad, when I was little I wanted to marry my dog - an absolutely lovely Labrador called Tinker ;-)

Congrats to your daughter getting married and I have no doubt that you'll be able to shift a good bit of weight by June!! Just stick to the rules and don't let the carbs take over (which happens to me every now and again, but I'm trying to improve)

take care everyone!!

All chemists have them, even your favorite Boots!!. Their normally behind the counter( Don't know why its not like you can overdose on them). I don't don't bother with them anymore but their a good indicator if there ketones in your piss!

Ah well as for myself 3 days in and 5 pounds lost, happy with that as I'm sticking to my atkins plan very strickly, Probably won't lose anything next week if I lose too much this week that seems to be the way with induction, lose all your water the first week and then just keep it off the next week.

As I'm going to Spain for a week in Feb I'd better try as hard as I can to lose some fat in the run up to it.

Dear Gagalina,

Found the ketone sticks in my local chemist and swear by them. However i do notice that if i measure urine in the afternoon it can be high but by the evening time it can do down to just a trace in the urine. Does anybody else use them? Is it just my urine that is letting me down!!! Jesus what a thought! Tried the chocolate and orange atkins bar and i though it tasted just like terry chocolate orange. It was gorgeous!

Wow, how many people do you know that celebrate Christmas on January 29???? Not even in the USA do we do this, but the Adams family of Bellbrook, Ohio is doing it. This is the first weekend that all 32 of us could get together, it's hosted at our home every year and our Christmas tree is still up. I took two vacation days to clean the house and my hubby took off today and we rearranged furniture, since our daughter is getting married in June and has moved out, we painted her bedroom about a month ago and have spent the past two days moving things and cleaning behind wherever we go. I'm making roast beef in au jus, a cheese ball with crackers (I will probably only cut of a few pieces of cheese ball throughout the day as I go by it) and we provide the punch as well. If my oven holds out, I will make au grautin potatoes for those on carb lovers diet (aka the hubby and daughter and the rest of the family, I'm outnumbered here) Everybody else will bring side dishes. It's a hodge podge of things to eat but surprising it all ends up going together very well. My Mom comes since we're the hosts (and my sister in law's father comes as well... Maggie lost her mother two years ago, so she invites my mother to Thanksgiving at their house and we invite her father to our house in return)

Was very very sad today. I went to my "bird room" to feed the flock of 11, only to discover I now have a flock of 10. My beloved Lacey, a cockatiel, fell between the wall and an old stereo stand that I house my supplies on. I KNOW to let a gap between the wall and the stand, NUMEROUS times I've found Lacey, Kringle and Molly, the three that have free run of the bird room, lodged there, but even though it's been a close call, I've always rescued them. This time it wasn't a rescue. I feel bad because Lacey and Adam (a blue crown conure, a type of parrot, that I've had since 1987) are my favorites and I raised Lacey from the time he was 3 weeks old and he was 9 years old, he was a hand fed cockatiel. It's like losing one of my own "Babies". He was so tame and would fly to me whenever I opened the door. He will be sadly missed.

Sorry, I'm not usually this doom and gloom. Christmas tomorrow, more cleaning to be done and then I'll check in with all of you tomorrow night when the family leaves.

Gagalina
Mon, Jan-31-05, 16:44
Belated Merry Christmas to you then Rebecca, hope it all went well!!

Sorrry to hear about Lacey though - I've never had birds but I know what you're talking about. I've had dogs, cats, rabbits, gineapigs and sooner or later they all seem to meet their maker...

Do you have an entire room just for your birds?

Tue, Feb-01-05, 16:41
Dear Gagalina,

Use the stips from time to time. Exercised like a lunatic last week and was on a high level on the ketone strips. Been out walking for the past couple of days and am just on a low level. Better something than nothing. It is great to know whether you are in ketosis or not rather than hoping and praying that the next time you step on the scales you will have lost weight. Lost nearly 5lbs last week. Know that i wont lose anything like that this week but hope something comes off!

Cant believe that i have stuck to this diet. On it for over two weeks and have not been tempted to stray.

Rebecca A
Sun, Feb-06-05, 19:28
About my birds, yes I have a bird room. It's a room about 12'X12'or so, I'm not good on deminsions. The builders of the house used it for their deep freeze, the second owners used it for a toy room for their son, it's essentially where the fireplace should have been. It's perfect for the bird and their three cages, since hubby hates birds out into the living space of the house. \ The belated Christmas went well, dinner turned out well even though the over DID bite the dust and had to finish the beef up on the stove, it turned out the best that it ever has though, so that's good. Hubby is very mad at his sister and his niece, he caught them rummaging through our drawers in our bedroom, so next year he said the bedroom will be locked. Besides, the cats were hiding under the bed and the kids were terriorizing them, so another vote fromt our two cats to lock the doors next year. He said if people don't respect our privacy then we'll not give them the chance any more. Why do people have to nosey around other people's belongings????

Hi Aoife,

well done on the 5 pounds!! I got my car last week wednesday, so I'm loosing out on walking to the bus stop at work, but at least I can sleep an extra 45 mins ;-) So have my mind set to do a bit of yoga in the evenings, or even to get up earlier and go to the gym before work (we have a little gym at work which is really handy).

Hi Rebecca,

good to hear the belated X-mas went well. I'd hate other people to go through my stuff - even if its family - I know some people can be very curious - but there has to be a limit somewhere - locking the door seems to be a sensible idea - also a good option for the cats ;-)

This is my very first post on this forum and I'm hoping it won't be my last! I'm on the atkins diet for 3 days now and have been researching the pants off all things atkins while i've been online. Just thought I'd see if everyone here knew about www.lowcarbsliving.co.uk, it sells loads of things that you cant get in the shops here and they deliver to Ireland no bother

Hi Connokra,

welcome to the forum. Why don't you join us in the St. Paddy's day challenge?? This one here has fizzled out a bit.

Are you in the UK or in Eire?

How are you getting on with Atkins - its a bit of a change isn't it - but to the better of course!!

just buzzing around the forums and stumbled upon your thread. I started atkins about the same time you picked it up again after Christmas. Good luck to you.

Wowwee, I'm back on induction tomorrow, I think. I took a few weeks off to just play around, eating the stuff I missed and now I feel the effects. It's now only about 3 months until DD wedding, I think 13 weeks exactly, it's June 11. I won't have any of this off if I don't get busy.
