The War on Supplements: CODEX Update

The UK Based Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) will be appearing in
the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg in a bid to overturn the
draconian EU Food Supplement Directive. The ANH recently received a
court date of January 25th.

See press release at
http://www.alliance-natural-health.org/ANHwebsiteDoc_117.doc

As part of the CODEX agenda, the World Health Organization is trying
to push through pathetically small allowable potencies of vitamin
supplements. This will have the effect of making effective dosing of
many supplements both impractical and unaffordable. WHO and other
anti-supplement forces are attempting to portray nutrient supplements
as dangerous and unregulated agents that must be bought under even
tighter bureaucratic control--this despite a safety track record that
Big Pharma's highly toxic drugs could not even dream of.

As John Hammell from the International Advocates of Health Freedom has
stated, "their scam MUST be exposed!"

The ANH has received an extension for filing comments with the World
Health Organization on Nutrient Risk Assessment until Monday December
13th. They urgently require donations in order to conduct a PR media
blitz supporting their WHO comments on Nutrient Risk Assessment, and
for their lawsuit. According to Hammell, ANH will submit very solid
comments that they've had input on from world class orthomolecular
practitioners and scientists on our side.

They're working with a top notch PR firm which in the past has been
very effective about getting press releases into the mainstream media,
but badly need donations to pay them.

Donations can be made via their secure server at
http://www.alliance-natural-health.org/index.cfm?action=donate.default

Larger donations should be made by wire transfer- see details at the
URL above.

The EU Food Supplement Directive is a classic example of a “Solution” in search of a problem. In the US we have a relatively unregulated supplement industry, thanks to the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). Yet we regularly get warnings about “potential” dangers from supplements. No real, hard evidence of harm, mind you, just vague suggestions of “potential” danger. Thousands die from OTC drugs, and tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands die from prescription drugs, yet it is supplements that need regulation? The existing regulation, that of the enforceable laws of product liability seem to be quite adequate to me.

There is only one group that stands to benefit from the EU Food Supplement Directive or the even more disturbing Codex Alimentarius. BIG PHARMA.
