That would be me. And probably the least informed as well. I borrowed some text from another thread that interested me. I hope that's ok!

<<ok, ok. I did some research and there was something else too. I drink heavily. I dont consider myself an alcoholic, but according to the textbooks I am. I had just gone home on vacation in late October and we drank up a storm, and on my return to japan, I continued to party. I think I've been drinking more this last quarter of the year than the whole year combined. On a daily basis too, and this seems to be a major withdrawal symptom of alcohol addiction. Wow. Well, I guess I have something I really need to think about>>

From reading both the Forum titles and several of the posts, it seems everyone is on a 'specific' diet plan or regimen.

In my profile, I mentioned all the names because I have read SOME of everybodys book(s) and all of some books. Earl Mindells Vitamin Bible is one I actually read cover to cover and still refer to.

He actually mentions a 'drinking mans' vitamin regimen. Interesting.....I need to re-read that. AND read more of Atkins/Sears/Weil and some lesser known
authors.

Again, I hope the fella who penned the above <<quoted>> paragraph doesn't mind me lifting his work so to speak :)

I'm wondering if alcohol can be legitimately included in a low carb diet. I'm guessing not.

So I as HE really do have something new to think about.

Thanks!

Bill

Hi, Bill

Welcome and good luck.

Im no expert, but Im a bit of a drinker myself...no kids, my husbands in a band, we meet everybody at the bar after work, etc. This is my second times on Atkins, the beginning of day four. Anyway, the first time around, I was doing ok. One of the things I did was switch from Bud to Miller Lite (that change was permanent). 3.2 gms of carbs seemed acceptable, so I started having 'just one beer' which fit in ok carb-wise. What I found out was that once I got used to the fact that one beer was ok, one quickley turned into 2, then 'just one more before we go home', you get the picture. I started thinking things like 6 beers was really less than 14 carbs or so, after all, and most everyone else I knew was consuming 100 grams of carbs a day or more, so how much could it hurt? Well, needless to say, that plan didnt work out so well, and I ended up abandoning LC altogether after awhile wgich is a good thing because my diet consisted of beer and meat! LOL

Anyway, Im on day four of Atkins induction and I havent had a beer yet. Coming straight home after work, trying to drink as much h2o as I can. I plan to try to go 2 solid weeks without a drop, which puts me at Christmas day, and try to figure out a reasonable strategy to deal with it after that. Its a little easier this time becuase I know what happened last time (I'd walk in the door of the bar and all my friends would say "Wow, you look terrific....let me buy you a beer!), and also I have a serious deadline, a trip, on January 26th, so I cant mess around this time.

I also play a few online games.....with a Lite in hand, of course. I found out that as long as I had something to drink (and I mean ice water), I did ok....seems that the quick sip in between rounds is more of a habit than anything, and it didnt matter that I was just drinking water. I played better too. I may have to employ that strategy Sunday for football...

Well, anyway, good luck and any tips you can give me would be great. Take care.

Susie

Susie>> LOL!! ok ;)

if i come across any, i will share! I'm also a musician, as in that's how I make a living. how bad of an influence can playing bars be for a person who is trying to nix the firewater?

bad enough! i find it extremely stressful. *sigh* and i know what you mean about 1 turning onto 6 or 8 or a case to go ;)

i have been eating less than 20-30 carbs/day, but 3 days a week or so, i go to the neighborhood bar "where everybody knows my name" and have like 3-4 miller lites each time. one other day a week i have a glass of wine or two with dinner. i have managed to lose about 5 lbs already in 2.5 weeks, which i think is good, considering the amount of alcohol carbs i consume! i wish i had the willpower everybody else seems to have to be able to quit drinking completely, because i bet i would have much better results. sigh...i feel like an alcoholic, but while i am willing to give up bread and cookies, i am not quite ready to give up my beer!
