Hi everyone, I would like to ask if i could order chicken tenders at a fast food restaurent. I know they are fried but i am wondering if they use flour or something to make it crunchy. Anyhow are chicken tenders allowed during induction? After all it's still meat.

Just for comparison, McD's chicken select/strips, have 32 carbs. I would avoid anything with breading.

what she means by "breading" is the coating on the outside of the chicken tenders that is what makes them crunchy "its FLOUR and a few other things" so you are not allowed to have it on this diet. You can however make them yourself at home using ground up porkrinds for the breading and they are YUMMY!

The chicken strips are loaded with breading. I would suggest maybe getting the "naked chicken" from KFC...it has no carbs in it. I think they have KFC nationally....I can't remember if I've seen them in other states. One time some friends ordered fried chicken and I just peeled all the skin off of a leg and a breast, so as not to eat any of the breading, and I didn't feel guilty afterwards. I may have gotten a few carbs in, but it was very little. What books have you read? Refer to these when in doubt about a food's nutritional value and you'll have these accidental cheatings less often.

Also, you can always go to my favorite website when I'm on the run or on the road...DietFacts.com. They can give you nutritional information on any restaurant's food.

Your food choices will be a lot easier if you read the Atkins book. It describes why the diet works and has lists of foods you can eat. Be very careful with any foods you don't make yourself, I personally would avoid anything you don't make yourself for the first two weeks, that way you know exactly what you're eating. Other things you might not have thought about are sauces and salad dressing and stews and even ketchup are loaded with carbs. Eat fresh foods like chicken you cook yourself, and fresh vegies and salad. Check the labels on any sauces and dressings you use even if they say low carb. There are lots of tips around here for fast and easy meals that you can pack for lunch or dinner away from home so you don't have to get fast food. Just look around or ask.

I could be wrong but I recall reading that the KFC strips had hidden sugar in them too even though they are not fried, may want to check it out.

rolling the chicken on almond flour and Parmesan Cheese (50-50) and fry them quickly in butter and olive oil.
Tastes delicious and much more in keeping with the diet.

I've done that and it works well. Using combinations including soy flour and/or pork rinds also work well and taste good imo. :yum:

I haven't tried the almonds, I'm on induction so I have to check on that. For now I am rolling them in egg before I fry them to give them a crunch.
