Go to locarber.com. The zero carb syrup base is wonderful.. No carbs, no fillers, no calories. Ingredients are water, liquid sucralose, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, citric acid. One 8 ounce bottle has the sweetness of 32 cups of table sugar. This may not be called liquid splenda but it is. I use it to cook and bake all the time and have used 1/2 bottle in about 2 months.

Hi,
I ordered the 0 carb liquid sweetener (splenda) from lowcarber.com and it arrived in less than a week. I got an email from Trish saying that she is switching shippers and so the cost should be going down. She is also adding several new products to her line including the following:
Organic Dried Black soy beans with only 1 carb per half cup (cooked)
Shredded coconut only 4 carbs per 1/4 cup (large pieces not like what you find in the grocery store)
Rye FIber crackers with 0 effective carbs per serving
Erythitol Granular sweetener the newest of the sugar alcohols with no laxative effect and 0 effective carbs.

umm im sorry to tell you this but the beans have already had the fiber subtracted so they are 6-7 carbs per half cup
i did research on this and know it for a fact

Mon, Jan-12-04, 06:38
hey thats fine with me
its so concentrated that i use 1/4 teaspoon to equal one cup of sugar so it beats 1gram of carbs per packet of the stuff u buy in the stores
i've been using it for almost a week now and i'm still well into ketosis

Has Trish's price on the liquid splenda already gone down? It has been 3 weeks since someone posted she was changing shippers and the price would go down.
I think it is outrageously prices at $17.99 and the shipping of $7.60 is ridiculous as it weighs less than a pound (a box would only add 8 to 10 oz to the weight).
I did notice this, this is the manufacturer:
Low Carb Express
Tonawanda NY 14150
Can't locate them online however
If anyone can locate them directly and doesn't live too many states away, perhaps we could get a co-op going for the syrup. I'd buy at least 2 bottles!!! and could find a few diabetic friends to give another few bottles to for gifts!

CRAZY IDEA I HAD!!!!
I wrote to Davinci's Gourmet syrups and planted the seed of them selling the syrup with no flavoring. I gave them the link to the ONLY supplier in the US and told them that Splenda themselves refuses to market it here in the US although they do so in other countries.
Don't know how much of an impact it will have on them but they must receive 1000's of pounds of the splenda syrup concentrate a week and it wouldn't take them much effort to slap some into one of their glass bottles and put it up on their website for the offering :)

The latest information is that Trish is no longer selling her product. I emailed her twice and she did not respond.
I contacted a source is Australia and received the following reply:
Yes, you are able to purchase it from me. Cost for the syrup is US$28 all inclusive for 7oz bottle. Measurement is 2 tsp = 1 cup sugar. Each bottle contains 20 cups of equiv.
You can also purchase pure splenda for US$54 for 6oz bottle. Equiv to 170 cups of sugar.
Please pay via paypal to my email address if you are interested.

If you buy the pure Splenda the cost is approximately 37 cents for the equivalent of 1 cup sugar sweetness. This is cheaper than the cost for the granular. His message indicates that his prices include shipping.
I have NOT ordered from him yet so have no experience.

Remember the stuff is very concentrated. I mixed 1 tablespoon with 4 tablespoons distilled water and it is usable. The sweetness is about 1 teaspoon = 1 cup sugar.
If you want the same sweetness as Trish's liquid, I think you need to add either 5 or 6 tablespoons water to 1 tablespoon concentrate. Experiment with a little. I mixed mine in a clean baby food jar. Using it without diluting it is tricky and I personally don't recommend doing that.

Sat, Mar-06-04, 07:43
Trish's product is 1.5 teaspoons = 1 cup sugar
If you cut the pure splenda with 1 part splenda and 4 parts water the result is about 1 teaspoon = 1 cup sugar
If you want to stay with 1.5 teaspoons = 1 cup sugar then you need to cut the pure splenda with 1 part splenda and 6 parts water.

Asalvato, if I'm correctly doing my math here, then what you're saying is 1/5 teaspoon liquid splenda = about 1 cup of sugar.
And if that is the case, might one be able to effectively use one of those eyedroppers with cc markings? Isn't there some kind of equipment for measuring very small amounts of liquid?

My liquid splenda sample arrived :)
After doing a little math, I figured out that the liquid splenda sample contains less pure sucralose than the powder (about 65g compared to 100g), so any other "companies" requesting samples might want to request the 100g powder.
At 1/4 t.= 1 cup, the 8 oz. liquid splenda comes out to 192 cups of sugar which is in the realm of 90 lbs.
Wow! That's a lot of cheesecake! :)

Following my calculations, I just took another look at the www.sweetzfree.com website price.
At $58 for 4 oz. that's $58 for the equivalent of 45 lbs. of sugar. That's 7 bucks for a 5 lb. bag. Yikes! I guess there's not a lot of competition for this stuff.

I have been buying my liquid Splenda under the brand name of Sweetzfree. It is available in 1-2-3 & 4 oz. dropper bottles and I am very happy with the service and the product. While it is $16 USD for a 1 oz. bottle, it lasts a month and I think it is well worth it. It is great not to have to rob carbs from other food sources to have my sweetener. It comes from Orlando, FL and arrives very fast, the order is processed and shipped the day I order it. Splenda isn't cheap to begin with and this has been a wonderful resource. Those samples are intended for manufacturers. Basically, any consumer that applies on that site that isn't running a food products business is, well, lying to get that sample.
I have been following this thread for a while and am wondering if anyone has seen the info about Tate & Lyle taking over the manufacturing of splenda and ingredient sales to food manufacturers. McNeil will be marketing the Splenda grannular to retail stores and the food service industry.
For more info on this go to google and enter "tate & lyle" and also enter splenda. What I found to be especially interesting was an article about low carbing, Splenda and McNeil. If this doesn't come up right away, just add the word Chicago and a website with the article will appear.
Check it out! I'd be interested in hearing what others think about this.

Hey, this is great news about Sweetzfree! I dashed on over to that link you provided and bought the largest size they have for $58 (the four ounce). Unless they are way more expensive than they should be - I think this means that it's more concentrated than TrishZ's liquid splenda. Anyway -- if this is the real deal, I'm going to order MORE before they too are squashed by the Splenda people. Before I saw this was available I actually had to resort to buying the Equal and Splenda packets - man are they fluffed up.

I have ordered a 2oz quantity of liquid sucralose from Sweetzfree.
Everything in moderation, right? I do wonder if there may be safety issues that are the reason for liquid sucralose not reaching the consumer market in volume? Perhaps there is the fear that concentrated versions may make it far too easy for some to consume unsafe amounts?
I suspect many of you have heard the same rumblings as I have about liver enlargement, alergies, and other problems related to sucralose. While I think Dr. Mercola takes too much of a conspiratorial position on sucralose, his message is on my radar. Mercola is a LC advocate, but recommends highly against sucralose: http://www.mercola.com/fcgi/pf/2003/aug/23/splenda.htm
I think LCers are taking smart steps to future health, but we have seen the medical establishment lead us in wrong directions before. I hope we do not discover that sucralose causes problems down the road. Does anyone have additional information?

Jude,

Sorry for the long long wait.
Basically, any product made by anyone (or company) that is made from water and sucralose® can be called "liquid splenda" though it's taking liberties with the name Splenda™ which is actually trademarked, registered, etc.
Again, sucralose is the actual active ingredient and Splenda is the trade or marketing brand name...exactly equivalent to aspartame® being an ingredient and Equal™ being the marketing brand name for the packagaed product.
Bottom line, if SweetzFree is made with water and sucralose, it's a packaged version of what we all call 'liquid splenda'.
PS: Only the owners of the registered name Splenda can actually create or allow to be licensed a "legal" Liquid Splenda, so that would be McNeil as things now stand.

I'm relatively certain that if MacNeil could find a way to shut down these websites, they would. I'm reasonable confident these guys aren't going anywhere.
Stocking up on liquid splenda might not be all that great of an idea. The fact the these companies are selling repackaged, and, in the case of locarber, diluted, liquid splenda, the 5 year shelf life is shortened substantially. Unless you find yourself using a LOT of this stuff, I would buy no more than you would use in a year.
Not to mention the huge savings/improved flavor one gets when combining sweeteners. Once you start combining, your splenda use will drop considerably.

I found a place that sells pure Acesulfame Potassium, but I really want to get my hands on some pure sucralose. I know it's available in pure form, because some processed foods contain it, and the companies that produce those foods have to get it from somewhere.
I have Sweetzfree and it's great, but it's expensive. The person who produces Sweetzfree won't tell me where she gets the Sucralose, and I don't blame her, but still I wish she'd say.
By the way, I think argo2d is pulling our legs about being able to get pure Sucralose, LOL!

Webgrunt, is the ace k you've found decently priced? Do they ship?
You might want to ask Diane (sweetzfree) if she can get the pure sucralose powder for you. If she has acess to the liquid concentrate then I'm pretty sure she'll be able to buy the powder as well. If enough people express an interest, she may start selling it. At what markup, I don't know. But the shipping charges should come out to substantially less, though.
webgrunt
Thu, Oct-07-04, 10:57
Scott123,
I would not say the ace K was a good deal. It cost fifty bucks for 25 grams of 99% pure ace K powder, a whopping fifteen dollars to ship and took about two weeks to arrive. It is not near as sweet as Sweetzfree, the 25 grams of ace K is probably as sweet as maybe 25 cups of sugar. Sweetzfree is a much better deal, you get like four times the sweetening power for your money! Not to mention that the place I bought the ace K from (ScienceLab.com) does not list the ace K as a food additive, so who knows what the other 1% could be.
I've been using it and haven't died yet, though... :)
As I mentioned, I already did ask Diane where she gets the pure sucralose to make Sweetzfree and she said she wouldn't tell me. That makes sense, if I could get it wholesale, why would I buy Sweetzfree from her? Smart businesspeople don't give away their trade secrets.
My guess is that she either works for, or knows someone who works for, a food processing plant that uses pure sucralose, or she obtained a supply before it became so danged hard to get.
I have some researchers working on this.
As I mentioned before, I know you can buy pure sucralose because certain food products contain it, and the companies that make those products have to be getting it from somewhere. However, it could be that the company that makes Sucralose won't sell to you unless you are buying for a food processing plant. Also I'd guess the minimum purchase is well more than the average home user could afford.

My guess is that she either works for, or knows someone who works for, a food processing plant that uses pure sucralose, or she obtained a supply before it became so danged hard to get.
One important thing to be aware of is that the company that makes splenda (formerly McNeil, now Tate & Lyle) sells it in two forms, the pure powder and a powder/water 'concentrate.' Diane isn't buying the powder and adding water to it. She's buying the concentrate and repackaging it.
However, it could be that the company that makes Sucralose won't sell to you unless you are buying for a food processing plant.
Tate & Lyle won't sell to individuals because they don't want it being resold. If they knew the company that was selling to Diane, they'd cut off their supply. She won't tell you her source because it would put her out of business. If you want the pure powder, she might be able to get it from her middleman.

I guess they don't want it being resold because the resellers could undercut and hurt their Splenda sales. The only reason I'm interested in getting it in powder form is because I was hoping to obtain it much more cheaply than I can get it as Sweetzfree. Sweetzfree is a great product, but it's expensive. I suspect that if you buy it by the drum directly from Tate & Lyle, it's maybe 50 times cheaper per unit. Diane has to pay markup from her supplier and then add her own markup to make a profit.
They have not responded to my email yet. I am beginning to doubt that they will.

They responded!! I only asked for info on the dry powder form because I hate the fact that the liquid stuff crusts up around the spigot on the bottle:
The pricing for dry Sucralose is $200.00 per pound for both container sizes.
Orders can be placed through Tate and Lyle customer service dept. at
1-800-266-6766.
This means you can buy a single kilo of pure sucralose in powder form for $200 per pound, or about $440 total. I don't know how much shipping is yet, but I don't imagine it'd be that much for a kilo. One kilo is the smallest amount they'll sell. (For liquid sucralose, 25% solution, they said 4 gallons is their lower limit.)
Unfortunately I can't justify ordering a whole kilo for myself. If it were possible to buy a single pound for $200, I'd go for it.
If I could find one or two other people willing to go in with me on equal splits, it'd be great... but what a pain in the neck it would be unless they are local to the Minneapolis area, so we could meet, open the package, weigh it out and exchange payment all at once.
Maybe I will order it anyway and try to sell half of it on eBay... Though I'm not sure I want to take that kind of risk. What if no one wants to buy it? Then I'm stuck with more sweetener than I'll probably use in my lifetime and a very annoyed wife. :)

Since sucralose is 600 times sweeter than sugar, it's like getting 600 lb of sugar for $200.00--except this isn't sugar, it's a 100% carb-free sweetener. 600 pounds of sugar (or one pound of Sucralose) would last me at least 20 years, probably a lot more, so it works out to ten bucks a year, or 83 cents a month, or about three cents per day. When you break it down, you can see that it isn't expensive at all.
Remember, Sucralose is not the same as Splenda. Sucralose is the active ingredient in Splenda, but Splenda only contains a tiny amount of Sucralose.

Why not make a website and sell it? Sell it a little cheaper than the others and maybe find better containers. I'd buy some for sure! You can make back your money fast I bet. We all love a bargain! LOL!
Good luck in whatever you do!

That, plus they won't sell it to me as I have not established my business yet... They sure sounded like they were willing to sell it to me, the week before last. When I called back last week to finish my order, they weren't as friendly as last time and they flat-out refused to sell to me saying "we only sell to manufacturers."

Argo2d, do you know the quantity of powder you currently possess? If you know the precise quantity, you can mix up a water based concentrate pretty easily.

A lb.?!?! Yikes! That's a lot of sucralose.
Do you have any friends with extremely precise scales? Something accurate to the tenth of a gram would work. Depending on how much sweeteners you use on a daily basis, I'd break up that pound into 128 1/8 ounce bags. Then I would combine a bag at a time with 3/8 ounce water. That will give you 1/2 ounce sweetzfree liquid splenda (without the preservatives). If your water is relatively clean, it should last for 2 months. You can also buy preservatives and add them to your mix.
Without a good scale, though, it's just a guessing game.

Da Vinci has sugar-free simple syrup, which is liquid splenda of the right consistency for drinks and possibly other dessert uses. I use it in tea and coffee and blender drinks and cocktails. Add your own flavoring extracts for custom drink syrups.
LC Mojito: use mint, lime juice, simple syrup, and rum.

Simple Sugar Free Syrup *NEW*
750 mL $7.99
THEY DID IT! They made a 'flavoring syrup' with essentially no flavor.
I realize this isn't the concentrated liquid splenda or pure powder splenda but since this was mentioned earlier in the thread I thought I would post it here!
By the way, DaVinci has a ton of flavors that Netrition doesn't have, so I was amazed... including stuff like "German Chocolate Cake" and "Lime" that sound cool to me.

This is prob inappropriate. I just have bad mental images of people trying to explain away why there is white powder all over the kitchen and we are using scales to measure it out to the gram and put it in smaller bags.

Anyone try Fiberfit by Nutragenics. This is a sweetened soluble fiber which provides 1 gram of soluble fiber per tsp. 1 tsp has the sweetening power of 8 tsp of sugar. It comes in both liquid and powder. I get mine from netrition.com. A little pricey but it is supposed to go a long way. Just a thought.

Use distilled water, make it a double-strength or triple-strength liquid, label appropriately and freeze it.
I have not tried ordering recently, but the web site is still there. From their web site:
Sweetzfree is a clear liquid syrup base, highly concentrated, and made soley from 100% pure Sucralose in a purified water concentrate...absolutely NO calories, NO carbs, and NO Maltodextrin fillers

Well, there's Da Vinci's Simple Syrup, but it's a lot more expensive for the amount of sweetening power than Sweetzfree. Sweetzfree does have some availability, but you have to plan to go to the site at the right times of the month.
Here's hoping that the "Splenda shortage" is soon a thing of the past!

Just spoke with a gal at the US branch and she said it was not available here and that it may never be. She did say also that the more people that called in and voiced their opinion the better the chances of us getting it here. She didn't say she was sending me samples but recipes, that works nicely too. I also think the topic should head each forum for those who don't venture in here. Just a thought.

I hate to be a party pooper, but a few years ago there was even an online petition sent to the Splenda (McNeil?) people with 10's of thousands of names on it, AT LEAST, .... and I don't even think they responded much to it except to essentially say, "Thanks for your imput, but no."
I don't think this is going to happen anytime soon. I think basically they've promised, (maybe even contractually) the large food product companies that they would not put out the pure form of sucralose. Perhaps to ensure less competition ... who knows.

Well thank you so much for the web site and for the heads up on this one. What do you find the taste to be like?? Is it just sweet like sugar or is it like equal and saccarin with an odd taste to it?? I used to get really bad headaches from equal, you don't find any side effects from it do you?? Just wondering. Thanks again for letting us all know about this product.

I know. It doesn't make any sense. Not only did they USED to sell it here, the still sell it in other countries.
Again, I think it has to do with contractual obligations with food corporations. I can't think of any other reason really.
There's certainly a decent, but limited, market for the liquid splenda, but I'm willing to bet they make A LOT more money selling their stuff to Coke, Pepsi, Diet Rite, Carb Options etc...
And if any of these corporations insisted that they not sell the pure stuff to the public ... then they won't.
If true, I personally think it's ridiculous that corporations be allowed to contractually obstruct competition like that. They want a "free market", up and until they want to prevent competition from someone else.

Its a bazillion times sweeter than sugar. If you taste it directly your tastebuds will fall off. No, ok, they don't fall off but it isn't nice tasting something 600 times sweeter than sugar. The key is you use much, much less. For instance, I think 1 drop of Sweetzfree is like 1.5 Tablespoons of sugar. So when you bake/cook you might use 1/4 tsp of the liquid concentrate.
I wouldn't gargle with it but its great for cooking.

It is much, much sweeter than sugar, but there's directions right on the bottle, and I haven't had any trouble with it. I have accidently gotten some on the tip of my finger though, and my finger tastes real sweet!

I've been using this product for about a year, found out about it on this site.
I love it! To me it's much better-tasting than powdered Splenda, although I do like that too, a big improvement over Equal, etc.
while liquid Splenda might seem kind of high, the price includes shipping and it lasts a long, long time, like sherbear posted above. :agree:
the taste is much more like real sugar, no chemical after-taste, it's wonderful in tea and coffee. :yum:
one problem is the limited availability at the sweetzfree site. Orders are taken only a few times a month and for a limited time, usually in about ten minutes supplies are gone.
it can be done, though, I just got two new bottles yesterday

I saw the site and thought $17 for one ounce! That seems really really expensive but if I only needed 1/4 tsp that would be 24 uses so that sound a little better. I may have to try one if the chance is available.

Sweetfreez is well worth the cost, in my opinion. I've had my 2oz bottle for about a year now and I've still got 1/3 of a bottle remaining. A little goes a loooonnnnnng way! I regularly (1-2 times per week) sweeten an entire 2qt container of tea (about 19 drops per time) and it barely makes a dent in the bottle. If you're on the edge about making the purchase, I'd say go for it and see for yourself. The taste really is superior - again IMHO :)

I boutht some sweetzfreez and tried using it (according to their equivalents) to replace the sugar in my normal pumpkin pie recipe. The pie wasn't even close to as sweet as the sugar version and my friend said it had a slightly strange taste (called it a "twang"). I'll prob throw out the pie and go back to powdered splenda for baking. Too bad. I was really hoping to reduce the carbs more in my dessert recipes but I'd rather have it turn out right even with the extra carbs. I have no problem with powdered splenda as a sugar replacement.
experiment with mixing sweetzfree and some other sweetener, such as saccharin. Really!

what I do to make liquid splenda is to take equal parts of splenda and water and boil it on the stove till the splenda dissolves and then put it in a container and there you have liquid splenda whenever you need it. I usually take 1/4 C. splenda and 1/4 C. water and then boil it on the stove. It does taste pretty good.

I personally think they are only good for tea or coffee. Although i havent tried using them for cooking.

I MAY have located a new source for liquid sucralose (Splenda is a brand name for sucralose). If anyone is interested, send me a private message and I will let you know IF it pans out. The cost will be less than any other liquid sucralose source I am aware of. I am not sure of the rules on the board about such things so I don't want to put out any more information here.
