I had to go for a third blood test! My doctor who has put me on 4 seperate diets which didn't work, thinks the Atkins diet will kill me!
He said I'm starving my body and am dehydrate. I have had advanced First Aid and I'm not dehydrated. I drink 4 liters of water now and I take potassium (Only one pill) and I take a multivitamin.
Each blood test result is the same. My body is fine. My sugar and colesterol is great! So why does he keep making me take blood tests? Every two weeks! I have shown him my food journal and what my weight and measurements. This diet works and I feel great! Its so fustrating how ignorant some people are!

Maybe it's time for a new doctor?

I belong to an HMO, and I've tried the other three doctors and they all say the same thing.. I wonder if its a HMO decision...

Sorry Lessara, I've got no experience with HMO's... But i've heard some scary things about them. Good luck in your search for an understanding doctor.

My Doctor called today to say my blood test came out great!
No numbers though :daze:
He said that he would be less critical about my diet and to please see him is anything is wrong. He wants me to take a colesteral test in November... I'll show the numbers then!

Sometimes that's the only way to get them to listen to you, show them the results. Good news!

Just keep up the Low Carbing. You will show your doctor how wrong he is about Low Carb dieting. I have a great doctor is all for the Low Carb and is him self a low carb eater. Keep up the low car and you will soon not even realize that you are eating low carb. Your next blood test you will show him that all your numbers are down and then he won't have anything to say about the way that you choose to eat.
Everyone here is supportive and we all know you will prove that doctor wrong that you can do this. My doctor put my husband on low carb diet because his colesteral was to high. We will see if his lowers or not. But I am going to see how low my colesteral can go. I started at 108 and I do hope that I do not go up.
Good luck!!!!!

My dr. was dead-set against lowcarbing at first. She figured it was just eating tons of bacon and cheese and 16 oz steaks and everything swimming in lard. So, for my next appointment, I wrote out a sample weeks' worth of menus and showed it to her. When she saw all the vegetables and salads I was eating, and lots of chicken, fish and eggs .. plus the absence of sugary junk ... she was impressed, especially since my blood pressure and total cholesterol have come down as well as I've lost weight.

Lessara and Shondel, I'm sure your numbers will be improved, and like Nat said, the docs. will be convinced when the evidence is right in front of them. Good luck to you both!

The American Medical Association has recently given Atkins the thumbs up so tell your doc to grab a copy of the book and sit down and read it. Call it professional development time so he can ease up a bit. Congrats on your bloodwork! My doc couldn't wipe the smile off his face when he saw mine.

My Doc. knows next to nothing about Lcing - but he is pleased with the results -- he listens - as he does not know anything he does not argue with me when I ask for something! So my health is in my own hands and he is the helper! When we were discussing Atkins & his voice held some doubt - I asked him if he could recommend another diet that would work but did not have grains (I'm Celiac) and he said no - keep on doing what you are doing. All of my tests have come back in the normal range except for thyroid - now on meds. I have been on Atkins since Oct 25 2003 and have lost 30.5 lbs. - I have never felt better in years!

If it weren't for my gyn doctor i'd probably be well on my way to 500. He took a special interest in me, found out i was insulin resistant and had pcos and put me on glucophage and suggested lowering my carbs. He's the best, he really is, and continually pushes himself to learn more.

My doctor had almost no comment; he wants to take a cholesterol test later, but he was fine with it, and the big weight loss. I think he's a bit more open minded than some others though.

Yeah, my doctor too was encouraging. He was really impressed with the blood work after being on Atkins for two months!

I really don't understand the problems. .. like someone else said. . .so I am eatting a steak, baked potato, salad, veggie and roll dinner. . .except I am skipping the potato and the roll. . .how can that be worse than adding the roll and potato. . .the only thing I can think is that the almighty $ is being threatened. . .1)manufactored foods are not selling . . .2)packaged diet programs are not selling . . .3) you don't need a personal nutritionist to do it for you. . .AND the biggest reason Dr.s have a problem with this WOL 4)the drug companies will sell less product. . .no diet pills, no low cholestral, no low high blood pressure, no insulin and less anti depressants. . .heck this is an anti-American diet. .. oh yeah and it stops blaming the fat person for being fat and shows us where the problem actually lies. . .lies. . .all lies. redawn;)
