Cameron said he wanted to lose weight for a panto role
Big Brother winner Cameron Stout has emerged from his latest residential challenge almost two stones lighter.
Cameron has been taking part in a nine-week study at the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen.

The research into the effectiveness of high protein, low carbohydrate, Atkins-type diets is due to be completed next May.

Cameron, a junk food fan, wanted to lose weight for a panto role and managed to shed almost 12kg.

An estimated three million people have tried the low-carb diets, but there is still no scientifically-proven reason why such regimes should work.

Sizewise, I can feel a difference, particularly in my trousers

Research leader Dr Alex Johnstone, a weight loss expert based at the institute, said: "What we're specifically interested in, the study Cameron has just participated in, is how the protein and carbohydrate content of the diet interact.

"Cameron's been great, he's been a great ambassador for the Rowett and a great volunteer."

The study involved men aged 20-55 who lived within the Human Nutrition Unit of the institute for nine weeks, but who were able to attend work.

Throughout that time, researchers conducting the study provided all the volunteers' food for eight weeks and monitored their general health.

Cameron said he would try to keep up a proper diet as he entered the "hectic" panto season.

He added: "Sizewise, I can feel a difference, particularly in my trousers.

"It's been absolutely great, you've got two people preparing your food and the food has been so good, you don't sit down and eat lettuce and goat's cheese for every meal."

He said he was looking forward to going home to Orkney for a home cooked meal and he also planned to celebrate with a bag of home-made tablet.

He might get a bit of a shock when he eats that tablet.

Tablet, for those who don't know, is a confection of sugar and cream. Here in our neck of the woods it's called sucre-a-la-creme.

It might not be the best thing to break his low-carb diet.

Yes. DOesn't seem as though he has understood about LCing being a Way of Eating for LIFE - not just a quick diet. Dumb.

No science behind low carb huh? At least not like the science behind low fat. You know, the kind where you come to your conclusioin before you design and run the experiment, and then when your results show the opposite you still stick to your original conclusion.

Minna,

"Hectic panto season"? We Brits have the "charming" tradition of attending "Pantomime" around Christmastime. What is Pantomime (Panto)? Basically it's a kind of vaudeville theater around traditional tales like Cinderella, Snow white, Alladin etc... working on two levels, a slapstick roistering that kids love, but with a bawdy double-entendre that adults get, but that flies over the kiddies' heads. Audience participation is de rigeur, so the lead will ask "Where is he?" Audience: (roars)"He's behind you!" Lead swivels round, but other actor keeps out of line of sight "Oh no he isn't!" Audience: "Oh yes he is!" etc... etc....

Panto casts usually consist of extremely 3rd rate celebs or ex-celebs or sportsmen who otherwise you'd never hear of.

My personal opinion is that to best experience Panto, a lobotomy and liberal quantities of alcohol have to be administered beforehand. :D ...

Peter.

Strange, I started low-carb because of the scientific reasons, have become ever more convinced because of the science, and explain to other people in terms of science.
