Hi all,

I just read a great book by Dr. Thomas Yannios, M.D. called The Heart Disease Breakthrough. He explains all of these indepth blood cholesterol tests you can get which give results on all the subclasses of LDL, HDL tryicgycerides and VLDL. He says that you should follow certain diets and exercise programs based on your complete blood lipid profile. Apparently, you can have "normal" cholesterol levels, but have lethal levels of certain subclasses of LDL particles. This explains how very fit people with low or normal cholesterol levels can die suddenly of heart attacks. The tests can help you understand if you are apt to have hardening of the arteries that develops over a long period of time, or if you are at risk for sudden blockages of your arteries that can result in sudden heart attacks. The tests are not available in Canada, but you can have them done in the States.

Has anyone had these tests done? If so, how did the results affect your eating and exercise program? Have any Canadians had these tests done by mailing their blood samples over to the lab in California?

Apparently there is a Blood Lipid Institute in California www.berkeleyheartlab.com where they can refer you to a doctor in your area in the States. Again, if anyone has heard of these tests, I'd like to know how it went.

thanks
