Several years ago I was diagnosed with my thyroid being underactive and the doc said surely that was why I was obese. So, he put me on a thyroid pill. Well, I still couldn't lose weight so that was when he put me on Meridia. Keep in mind that my diet consisted of high carbs and very rarely did I eat veggies. Lost lots of weight. Went off Meridia I gained back a good amount because I hadn't changed my eating habits. Thyroid was still borderline as far as the numbers from the test. Couldn't tell you the numbers but I remember the doc said they were borderline. So, a few months after I went off Meridia he doubled my thyroid medicine. Still no help because I was still gaining. I think he diagnosed me as underactive thyroid because I was fat! Has anyone run into that? I decided to slowly take myself off of the thyroid meds and only take a couple a week now. Am going to one a week for a while and then completely off. I think backing off the meds before I went on Induction helped. Maybe I am wrong. Has anyone had a similar situation to mine?

Hello,

I would need to know what your tsh test results were. I would not stop taking the thyroid without finding this out. Most people feel best between 1-2 tsh. Make sure you take nothing but a combination of t-3 and t-4 med like armour for best results. Free T# and Free T4 are even better indicators..but the tests are a bitmore expensive so docs don't use them much.

OK, scruffy, I did some searching. First things first.

You need a new doctor.

I cannot stress this enough. You do not take thyroid medication to lose fat. Sign of a bad doctor. You do not take a weight loss medication when you're taking thyroid hormones, or if you're hypothyroid. Sign of a bad doctor. A "Borderline" diagnosis is a sign of a bad doctor.

You need to find a good doctor, something we can help you with. Luckily you are in the US so you can get the testing you need done by yourself using www.healthcheckusa.com - Thyroid Panel II is 75$, use promotion code #12345 and get 10% off.

This is something you need to do ASAP. Being hypothyroid doesn't just effect your weight. It effects cholesterol, heart health, your bones - it's serious business.
