anyone who went in and read my journal for last monday.. knows that I blew it.. BIG time.. went out to dinner on Sunday evening with the family.. I was feeling strong.. but then ate a massive amount of chips and salsa..:nono: the first few.. by habit.. the rest out of "oh.. what the hell.. i blew it anyway".. and had a gain of 1.5 pounds overnight..
I was (and still kinda am) furious at myself. . I thought I had been doing so well with my will power.. or more along the lines of not having to HAVE that willpower normally found with a 'diet'..
but today.. I find I am down in my weight.. so it took 2 days to get that back off.. I have still decided to stay with strick Induction (that will teach me!).. for maybe another week.. then start adding in the little LC goodies..
I feel like I let not only myself down.. but you guys down as well.. and I want to apologize.. and also say- I will, and am doing better!!
sorry guys :tears:

Good to see you so committed to your plan and working it well! We all slip, I just finished my two-week eatathon during hurricane hell......... But it really is all about picking ourselves up and keep going! I recognize why I failed so often in my past while "dieting" - I was either ON it or OFF it, there was never any middle ground. Since this is a WOL for me, I have gotten rid of that mentality. Hard times will come but our ability to get back on our plan is what will make us successful in the longrun. When I feel discouraged with myself, I go and read the threads from people who have lost over 100 pounds and sure enough, they had their struggles too! We can do this!

Dianna, hun I completely understand exactly what happened to you! I did the same exact thing almost 2 weeks ago. A friend and I went out for dinner, I chose the restaurant because I knew they had a low carb selection on their menu. Well I decided when I was there that I didn't want Fajita's on lettuce! I started eating the chips and salsa, at first thinking I would only have like 5. Well 5 turned into God only knows how many! I think something we have to realize is that for some of us..this will happen! NOt that its right or should be a habit. For myself it is only on osscasion that I will go out to eat, and I know now that I'm not stronger than my love for food! Sure I'm strong right now with this diet, but if I walk into my greatest weakness its likely that I will fall. The best thing I did when I had this "cheat" is I got right back on track the next morning. I"ve never been able to do that with a diet before. I would cheat and then cheat and never get back on the diet again! So pick yourself up and don't be ashamed, you've obviously had a measure of success on this WOE. Realize that once in awhile you MAY have a "treat" and then get right back on the horse!

the rest out of "oh.. what the hell.. i blew it anyway".. and had a gain of 1.5 pounds overnight..
I have a post in my journal that explains one way of getting around this kind of thinking...it's called the Carb Credit Card.
Just for handy, here it is:
One concept I've found really helpful is that of the Carb Credit Card.
All of us who have "dieted" remember the day BEFORE we decided to begin, commonly known as the "Farewell to Food" night. Whether you decided you wanted to clean out the fridge (with your face,) or picked up a bunch of your favorite goodies (that you were NEVER eating again,) The Farewell Night made sure you started the new diet so bloated and sick that you didn't feel like eating, at least the first day.
And an additional rule that follows the same twisted reasoning is that, just as the Farewell Night "didn't count," any day that you slip up makes this day into a Failure Day. This day, in our minds, occupies a special rip in space/time, where somehow the bunch of junk we eat "doesn't count," because THIS DAY is shot, and "I'll just start fresh tomorrow."
Of course, this makes no rational sense. Because all that junk wound up on our bodies anyway. Our stomachs don't care that we've declared a particular day off the calendar. Our hips don't know from rips in space/time.
That's why we need the Carb Credit Card.
Go ahead, make one in your mind. Personalize it! That dream outfit, the family portrait where you don't take up more than your share of the frame, or an activity you want to take up. Put your name on it, proudly.
What sort of interest rate do you get? Good question. If you've abused your body credit in the past, of course, you get a higher rate of interest. Running up a big bill, and not paying it off, will also lower your metabolism, and increase your interest rate. Take care of it. Try to lower it with exercise.
Now, every day, you get money put into the Carb Account. That's your allowance for the day. Go under, and you get credit put on the account. Go over, and you run up a bill.
You can tell your credit card company that your latest mall spree "didn't count." You can say the new outfit you bought for your birthday is "something they owe you." You can pay more than you expected for that new gadget...and then buy everything in the store while you're at it, because, "I've already blown the budget."
Does this reasoning work with the credit card company? Heck no. It won't work with your Carb Credit Card, either.
Me, I've run up a deficit this summer, and now I've got a bill to pay off. I'm jumping right on it, spending carefully, and working to keep my rate down and my debt low. Responsible spending.
Because this is one arena where I don't want to declare bankruptcy.

Congratulations on picking yourself up and climbing back on the wagon. Adkpam, I really like your analogy to a credit card -- I never thought about it that way before.
I think what gets a lot of people into trouble is "all or nothing" thinking -- you figure you have blown it already by eating a few chips (or a few cookies or a piece of cake or whatever), so what is the point of even trying to eat healthy for the rest of the day (or the rest of the week or the rest of the year or whatever). In my opnion, that is a dangerous way of thinking and something we all have to be on guard against. Almost everyone occasionally eats a small quantity of something that is not on their plan. As long as you do it only occasionally and the quantity is small, most people generally don't get into trouble. It's when treats become regular and the quantities get larger that people start to get into trouble.

Dianna, I go out to eat a lot and "blow it" too. Don't fret over it. The key, as others have posted, is to get back on track at the very next meal. I think it's great that you came in here and posted. Sometimes that's the hardest step!
This is truly a way of life. I always remind myself that we in the TDC have to learn to make this a way of life in order to hit goal. I think it might be the only advantage we have over those skinnier folks who only have 10 lbs to lose.
