I'm frustrated.

I am a 47 year old perimenopasal woman. I was diagnosed hypothyroid almost 2 years ago, (I thought I was menopausal) and have worked up to Synthroid 100's, and I swear I feel worse than ever. Tired, can't sleep, cold, bloated, gaining weight (especially belly!). I started Atkins, and was religious, also combined it with excercise (combo weight machine, biking and yoga). After one month I lost 14 pounds, felt better, but then I stalled. For the next two months, I didn't lose another ounce. Bloodwork indicated my levels were still wacky, and my doc upped me from 88 to 100 Synthroid at this point.

I actually did another 14 day induction, hoping to give myself a jumpstart, but lost NOTHING for another three months. In the meantime my husband, who went Atkins with me for support, continued losing weight for a total of 26 pounds after 2 months.

When I went for bloodwork this time my cholesterol shot up. It was high to begin with and now was 320! They put me on Pravacol and now I do a lo-carb/lo-fat thing. I adjusted my diet to eliminate fat, which entails adding some carbs, but good carbs: fruit veggies brown rice.

I've gained back the 14 pounds I had lost, and I keep gaining.I'm at wits end. My husband is super slim and looks great. I'm a blimp.

What's a hypo to do? :help:

High cholesterol is a symptom of low thyroid. Maybe you can ask your doctor about Armour Thyroid. It's a natural product and in my opinion works great. I am on Armour and when I first started lost 15 pounds last year, then I stopped losing but now my doctor added a compound T4 and I am losing again. My labs did indicate that I was mildly elevated but my Free T4 count was still on the low side and that is why she added the T4.
