Ontario Intermediate Championships:
Again, it was a small meet, with 8 lifters, most of whom were
smaller---1 67.5, 4 at 75, 1 82.5, me 110, 1 125. Was nicely
run, weigh-in, started lifting at 10, done by noon. I felt we
could have had a bit longer to warm up---only 15 min for bench
and deads---didn't have much time to get my shirt adjusted.
Squat (Z-suit)--195, 230, 255: all good (9 whites)---still had
some in the tank, but added 35 kg from last meet (really had a
lot in the tank then).
Bench (Fury+) : 182.5 1 red--shoulder up. 195 flew up, but 2
reds, one for shoulder, one for too low on chest (shit) which
I haven't had a problem with in the gym. Since the weight felt
good I went to 205 (or
202.5--can't remember) which also went up easily, but
again--2 reds, both for shoulders. Wasn't arching enough
to sit on traps, and when I touched and lifted my head,
apparently the shoulder came up too. I think with a bit
more warm up, the arch would've been a bit better. More
work to be done though. Was also nice that the 202.5
which was about my gym record too went up with the 'meet
boost'. Got more in me yet!
Deads (belt only): 207.5, 230 no problem. Wanted to make class
I, so I needed a big 3rd dead to finish to make up for missed
benches. Went for
202.1 (1.5 kg PB), got it past knees, but was nowhere close
enough to be able to lock it out, or even just throw
my shoulders back, was told that I had it, but hips
went out throwing me off. Oh well.
Total: 667.5 but should have been a 707.5 (add 20 kg for
bench, and I would've gotten a 250 dead). Next time...for now
it's time for some of the DB bench sequence to get those
shoulders together more. Think there's a bench only in
November so maybe I'll do that too. No more 3-lift meets until
February I think.
Met some new people, and there were some records broken---kid
named David Young broke I believe all of the Ontario
Sub-Junior records, and Cam Hawkshaw got new Ontario Junior
squat, dead, and total records. Nice work to those guys.

That's crazy. There's no way you can get a full warmup in just
15 mintues if you're also putting on a tight shirt or moving
really big weights.

Yeah, that belly bench factor can really sneak up on you in a
Fury. Can you touch those kinds of weights without lifting
your head?
Great job. I'll race you to Class I - I'm taking my shot at it
in January.

How do you raise a shoulder with 450 lbs on the end of
your arms?
Dayum. Must have been Bill calling that one.

Awesome job! I'd race you to Class I too but I'd come in
3rd I think.

Same weight class too. Could be interesting.

This is what I thought as well... and it wasn't Bill either,
can't remember which refs red-flagged me.

With a low groove I can see it happening, realize that the
call is probably as the bar is touching the chest and the head
is lifted the highest. At that point it seems like the midback
would really be pinned to the bench and not the shoulders.
