Help Has anyone experienced hairloss? My wife and steppdaughter have been on the diet faithfully for three and four months, both loosing their desired amounts. However we've noticed the bathtub drains at our houses getting clogged, with more than ususl need for cleaning the drain screens. I mentioned it and they compared notes. Both found they were loosing hair. We all take many suppliments, the ones recommended in the Atkins books and are healthy. For myself, I don't care, but hair is their pride. Any suggestions? :there: :there:

Hairloss is really characteristic of most dietary changes. Low biotin levels are pretty much to blame. Biotin, one of the B2 vitamins, are in alot of carbohydrate products. However, there are plenty of Atkins approved foods that contain this vitamin. I think that most of these foods on the list are foods that are not readily liked or sometimes avoided. Excellent sources are swiss chard, tomatoes, romain.
Very good choices are almonds, chicken eggs, onions, cabbage, cauliflower and cucmbers ( surprised me because I read recently where cukes were no very nutritious ).
Good choices: raspberries, strawberries, halibut,walnuts
Many who have complained of hairloss in the past, notice healthier hairgrowth after the body recovers. Low biotin can result in hairloss, brittle nails and bad skin. These things improve with consumption of biotin rich foods and supplements. Biotin is also a good insulin booster and it is recommended that if you're diabetic, contact your physician because he may need to adjust your medication.

Please use the Search word in the green stripe above to look for hari AND loss. There are dozens of threads about this on the board.
Hair loss follows along about 6 weeks to 3 or 4 months AFTER any major stress including the GOOD stress of losing a lot of weight by ANY method or diet. It is a temporary condition and soon resolves. The many threads about it will tell you what supplements you could add that will help somewhat.
