I had always bought the Atkins Endulge chocolate bars to eat when I needed a chocolate fix, but yesterday I got to looking through the rack at WalMart and found a Z Carb bar. This is a "gourmet dark chocolate bar" which weighs 1.2 oz. It contains 12 g of carbs and 8 g of fiber which gives me only 4g of carbs. (I don't ever count the sugar alcohols thing.) It tastes heavenly!! The Endulge bar was OK, but it has 16g of carbs and ony 3 fiber for a total of 13 carbs per bar (weighs 1.06 oz) and also tasted kinda...well...Atkinsey. This dark chocolate Z Carb bar tastes like the real thing. There were also other Z Carb flavors but their carb counts were higher so I went for the dark chocolate. I highly recommend it if you're at the point where you can have an occasional chocolate treat now and then. Man o man did I enjoy the 30 mile drive home from WalMart :yum:

When you are so close to your goal (congratulations on your achievement) you can afford to ignore the sugar alcohol carbs. But those of us who are still on the road down should probably count at least half of them, or even all of them as I do.

And then there's the laxative effect the next day. Yuck! But it's nice to know that some better tasting stuff is coming out.

By saying I don't count the sugar alcohols thing, I meant that I don't subtract them. As for the laxative effect, the Z Carb bar contains Sucralose, not Malitol, so that makes it even better! (The Endulge bar has 11g of Malitol.)

The ZCarb bars do contain some sucralose, but unless they've changed the formula recently they also contain Ethyriol, which is a form of sugar alcohol. It's much easier on the stomach than maltitol, though, which is why I prefer the ZCarb bars. Try the dark chocolate with macadamia nuts! :yum:

I can't find those darn things here! I am trying a new one today. It is from Balance. It does have a ton of sugar alcohol in it, but I am still going to try it. I also bought some Q-Smart granola bars and they are yummy. Sugar alcohol is minimal. Count goes like this...total 8g, fiber 2g, sugars 1g, sugar alcohol 3g.

I will look for them in Walmart soon. I can't wait, but are they in the diet area, the candy area or by the checkout. Sometimes that place seems so big that I can't find anything there. What are some of the other flavors?

I love Zcarb bars, and erythritol has only 0.2 cal per gram--very unlikely to cause a stall and inulin, which is a fiber and these do not cause gastric distress in most people. I hope most companies eventually turn to these and polydextrose (a fiber) as opposed to to glycerine and distressing polyols. Hershey's has caught on as well with the Hershey's and Reeses 1 Gram bars (they do have a small amount of polyglycitol as well, but I have not found them to cause problems.)

I FINALLY found ZCarbs at Walmart today! Had to order a box before (from their website), because they were nowhere to be found around here. They are actually cheaper to buy at Walmart. Now, I'm happy! :D

I limit these, but I LOVE them. And as sensitive as I am to maltitol, the erythritol in these doesn't bother me at all. My favorite's the dark chocolate with soy crisps. It's like a dark chocolate Nestle crunch bar. Mmmmmmmm.

How many come in a box? My Costco, on the east coast, doesn't have them yet  I wish Costco would sell Diet Rite too.

I love how they include anti-oxidants and minerals. Like I need an incentive to eat chocolate! No bad side effects to report!
