When I hear you all talking about the book, exactly which book are you referring to. I read this forum all the time and get hints on how to do this diet, but I would like to read the book. I've seen so many books on low carbing. I would like the name of the one I need to be reading and where I can buy it. Can I get it at amazon? I'm doing this for my son. He's 16 and has already lost 21 pounds since June 26. He already went through induction. We cut out all his breads and sugars. He loves it. It lets him eat what he wants. He loves any kind of meat. He gets lots of exercise now and drinks half his body weight in water. I just think the book would tell us things we might not know. Thanks.

This link tells you about the different plans/books.
If you look in the top right hand corner of people's posts, it tells you which plan they are on.
If you look at someone's profile, it may tell you what books they have read, for instance, Atkins people are usually talking about DANDR, Dr Atkins New Diet revolution.

The book is "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" or DANDR for short and it's out in paperback. That's the main book for Atkins lc-ing. He also has several others out as well. One of the better ones is "Atkins for Life" which takes you into more detail on the Pre-Maintence/Maintence end is also a good one to have for "down the road" (yes, I'm that optimistic!!). What's nice is there is an Atkins website that pretty much details what's in DANDR and has loads of very helpful articles. It can be found at:

If you sign up there you can have your own private journal/log of your success with Atkins (it's free and they send ya notices in your email about articles, etc)
I also seriously recommend getting cookbooks to help with the recipes (most are pretty delicious!!). I have Dr. Atkins cookbook and Dana Carpenter's 500 lc recipes (good luck finding it though, it seems to disappear fast from the shelves). Those little cookbooks you see at the grocery store are handy but beware. You have to skim through the thing first before you buy it as some that tout they are low carb aren't at all. They think lc is 20 g carbs or less for a meal (technically that's correct, but it's not for Atkins groupies--I think the rule of thumb is 10-15 carbs per meal :D ). I managed to find two from the grocery that are okay (they are within the ranges of carbs per meal). It's important to have variety or this woe will get boring and therefore more difficult to stick to..besides, one is expected to eat a variety of meats, not just steak and eggs all the time.
And, oh yes, don't forget your vitamins/supplements. The DANDR has a list of vitamins supplements you should be taking while on the Induction and Ongoing Weight Loss phases...

If by "Atkins groupies" you mean people who follow the Atkins plan, then no, there really is no rule of thumb per meal because the number of carb grams allowed varies by what phase you're in (induction is 20 grams) and your own body (in Ongoing Weight Loss or Maintenance phases, you find what carb level works for you).
