i started the low carbing due to my hernia doctor told me to lose weight for my surgery. well i went to my family doctor and they did blood test to check my heart and i found out my heart might have problems later on in life,so i chose to low carb for my health. i had my surgery in the end of april and i had the hernia repaired. all was good and i had lost 20 in time for my operation and still lost after surgery for a total of 45 lbs but i have recently gained 5 lbs back. my question is - i have messed my hernia up and it may need to be repaired again. i would like to chose not to have the surgery again and just lose some more weight and exercise to strengthing the stomach muscles up and see if it would reverse the small hole i am getting again. is there anyone here who might be going through this again? I am also losing my will power for my low carbing. i have to go back to the induction phase for my diet again. sue

I have a hernia and I chose not to have surgery. It would occasionally pop out and I would push it back in. It didn't hurt or anything like that. I think that I probably had it for quite a while but did not notice it until I lost about 30 pounds of fat. My thinking is that the fat was holding it in place.
I started Pilates in April 2003 with a personal Pilates instructor and we use the Reformer and other machines. We do very little mat work. For the last 6 months or so, I haven't really noticed the hernia. It stays in place because Pilates really strengthens and builds stomach, back and chest muscles. On top of that, it's done wonders for my posture!
There's nothing wrong with going back to Induction to get you back to basics. It can be quite liberating when you go back and start to experience how wonderful it is to low-carb again. :)
