I have asked about coffee and get many different answers. From what I understand it is an individual choice. My question this time is regarding the Heavy Cream most say they use. Is half and half ok? Why Heavy Cream instead of half and half or milk?

For me it is a real indulgence to use heavy whipping cream. It is just so rich it tastes like a nono. I love having a cup of coffee after agood meal with real HWC but the coffee I dink in the morning is usually back with splenda

I totally agree, HWC is wonderful in coffee or tea, but it is recommended because it has almost no carbs
half&half and milk have more milk sugars, and therefore more carbs
check the nutritional labels--that'll tell the tale!

The half and half and the heavy whipping cream here where I live both have 1 carb per 2 tablespoons so for me it's not a carb-counting thing. The HWC has a lot more fat, which is a GOOD thing while following Atkins  . If you're concerned about calories then the half and half has way less cals than the HWC...depends on what your plan is :)
I use HWC in my coffee with 1 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder and da vinci syrup for a mocha :yum: :yum: :yum: Diet??? What diet????   (inside joke - MIL gave me 'the look' when she saw me putting hwc in my coffee)

My heavy whipping cream says 1g for 1Tb, whereas my half-and-half says 1g for 2Tb.
I use 1 Tb heavy cream in my mock cream of wheat, but I usually prefer half-and-half in my coffee, 2Tb lightens it just right, since 1Tb of cream isn't enough for the same number of carbs.
I usually try to go by what is on the packaging instead of what is in carb counting books, I don't know what is best.

checked at the grocery store last night--the half & half has 2g for 2 TBSP, or 1g per TBSP
HWC has 0g for 1 TBSP

According to the USDA, 1Tb of half-and-half is 0.65g and 1Tb of heavy whipping cream is 0.42g.

my guess is it varies from brand to brand
I'm sure the manufacturer was accurate and within the law when posting the carb count for its product
