Hi Gang!

I had a question and I was hoping that perhaps other folks have had some of the same problems.

I bought three bottles of DaVinci Syrup (chocolate, raspberry, and cherry)from their website and I really like the stuff! I made italian soda and also just mixed it with club soda. It has no carbs (because it is made with liquid splenda) and I just think it is so great and easy to use.

Everytime I have had it though, I get RAVENOUSLY hungry about an hour later. It is a physical hunger, not a craving type thing. I have used it three times, and have had the same reaction each time. I get so hungry that I feel like I haven't eaten in days! I used the powdered splenda in ice tea and in recipes and it hasn't caused me this problem. I am suspecting, however, that it is making me prone to headaches.

The DaVinci Syrups are very popular with low-carbers so I was hoping that perhaps others have noted some strange reactions or if there is a possible explanation for it? I am not touching the stuff until I find out!

Thanks

Orchid

Hi Orchid,

I have used Davinci without problems as long as I don't use more than 1-2tblsp at a time (I have noticed cravings and an increase in hunger with any splenda products though) I had significant issues with apartame in the past as well, in which it would case extreme hunger shortly after ingestion and I discovered that it also caused my blood glucose levels to plummet (triggered an insulin surge) I wonder if your body is recognizing the Davinci as "real sugar" and secreting insulin?

Do you have access to a glucometer?
It would be interesting to see what your blood sugar does following ingestion.

Sorry that you are having problems, I have had better luck using stevia.

Some people react to AS with increased hunger/cravings. Their body doesn't know it's not real and so realeases insulin. Insulin causes hunger.
