Just thought I'd share my ulcer experience here. I have had an ulcer since mid June, it wasn't caused by H-Pylori. All of my diet changes weren't helping much, but when I recently ran across that potassium salt and potassium supplements can cause ulcers I was floored. I did not know this. My ulcer is finally getting better after 6 days without the nu-salt and supplements!

Just thought I should share this since I've noticed people mentioned nu-salt around here.

Hmm. That's interesting. I'm glad you're feeling better. Thanks for sharing your experience. What was the source of the information (before your personal experience)?

I found the information in the textbook "Medical Nutrition From Marz" by Russell Marz. They said the supplements can cause ulcers, as the supplements are basically potassium salt. So I figured the potassium salt could be the culprit. I also googled potassium salt and ulcer and got the same information.

Thanks for replying. Lots of people around here take the supplements. They are recommended by the Eades. I used to, but I got lazy about taking all the supplements I've purchased.

In December I went to the ER, doubled over in pain for eight hours. It was diagnosed as an ulcer. When they did the H. Pylori test, it came back negative. I was re-diagnosed as having acid reflux, though I do not have heartburn. I've been skeptical about the diagnosis. Your post is very interesting.

yeah, i'm sure most people don't respond to potassium the way it did in my case. i wanted to post this, just in case someone out there was also having trouble figuring out what was causing their ulcer.

did your ulcer get better then, or are you still having problems with it?

I don't really know if it's an ulcer. I'm on a high dose of Prevacid and that's managing it. I forgot to take the Prevacid until noon today and didn't end up in agonizing pain like I used to when I forgot.

I think it's time to see another doctor. Maybe I'm cured, maybe I was mis-diagnosed.

I'm glad you're better now and found the cause.

sounds like a good idea about seeing another doctor. hope you get to feeling better. who knows, maybe it was the potassium or maybe something else. i think acid reflux is sometimes one of those things doctors say when they can't figure out what is wrong with someone.

I take high K+ supplementation but I live in the south without a/c and sweat a lot. I let the twitchiness in my legs tell me how much to take. So far, no reactions. LC cured my stomach problems, pretty much.

But the reason the K+ pills are so low (%-RDA-wise) is stomach irritation, so you just must be a canary...

i was doing both potassium supplements and using quite a bit of nu-salt on my food. not sure how many mgs total i was getting. i did go a bit crazy with the nu-salt though. that's interesting about the mg doses of potassium, i did wonder why i could only find it in 99mg dosages.
