I have had frequent yeast infections for 5 years and have reciently started a super low sugar diet. No Fruit and no sugars. They have many kinds of sugar substitutes and I know that the ones that end in ose effect the same as Sugar when it comes to yeast infections but I am wondering how sugar alcohols like Maltitiol effect the body and if they would cause Yeast infections like Sugar.

i've been on this sugar diet for the past month and only these past 7 days have i not cheated.

I just coudlnt stop cold turkey with the sugar. at first i succumbed to a juicy peach, then a couple of days later i had watermelon. Then i had some oatmeal, a corn tortilla, etc. I was so depressed and dissapointed in myself and then i went and found a sugar free chocolate bar. it contained Maltitol. the package says "Maltitol is a slow to non-digestible carbohydrate naturally derived from corn". So i figured, what the heck, if my body wont digest it, i'll be fine. The next day, my rash got even worse. im not sure if it was because I took extra garlic and capryllic acid pills or what. but anyhoo, i was reading a bunch of candida books at the health store and they shun upon it.

some candida books say its ok to eat two rice cakes a day. some say its strictly forbidden.

I think any sugar shoudl be forbidden at least for 3 months. or you're gonna get relaspses and the candida will get stronger and stronger.

i guess no pain no gain.

what i do when i get sugar cravings:

have a cucumber and dill salad. cucumbers are KINDA sweet. chew on some mint leaves.

be strong, and just dont take any sugar. not even maltitol. you dont wanna take your chances.

stay strong and good luck

Wow! I wish I had seen this thread earlier! Sometimes I forget to check this area.

My suspicion is Maltitol would be a very poor choice on a Candida diet because contrary to what the label says, it is not 'sugar-free'. It has carbs (in the form of sugar alcohols) and in many people 75% of those carbs are metabolized, albeit much more slowly than traditional sugar. If a person doesn't metabolize it, they'll have digestive upsets--nausea, cramping, diarrhea, etc. I decided several months back to avoid Maltitol like the plague and haven't regretted it. :)

Maltitol is listed as a main ingredient in lo carb protien bars. does yeast feed on maltitol?

Does anyone know if its ok to eat low carb protien bars on an anti candida diet??
i cant find anything on it and i enjoy eating them but want to know if i'm hindering recovery by eating them.

According to the SCD diet sugar alcohols feed the "bad" bacteria living in your intestines.

The only things that don't feed the bad bugs is stevia and saccharin. Stevia is usually not recommended because it's molecular structure resembles a steroid. (see breakingtheviciouscycle.info) Saccharin is OK. Maltitol, xylitol and sorbitol and any -ols are sugar alcohols, therefore made from sugar and the bacteria just love it. It's indigestible for humans, but not for the bacteria.
I get rash falre-ups from lactose, cocoa/chocolate and grains too.
Low-sugar fruits are OK, like berries, if you crave sweets.
