I've had PCOS ever since puberty. I have been on Metformin when I was TTC. It worked twice for me!! I have heard a lot about the benefits of LC for people like us, but I'm a little leary of doing it for a lifetime. I'm just not sure if it's healthy over the long run (and for breastfeeding). Anybody have some info for me or some opinions. I'm desperate to lose weight and feel normal again, but I don't know if I can do Atkins, especially while breastfeeding.

Also I read somewhere that women with PCOS have a hard time breastfeeding, any research done on that? Thank you all!!

I have PCOS and had no trouble breastfeeding that was related to that.... sometimes my kids had trouble.... My son had to learn to differenciate between just wanting to suck and wanting to eat.... once he got that down there was no problem.... my daughter has down syndrome and needed some surgery... I ended up pumping for 5 weeks before she could breastfeed again... and then no problem... we nursed for about 18 months ... I even participated in a glucaphage and breastfeeding study... it was nice to learn that only a trace got into my breastmilk and nothing showed up in her bloodwork...... hope that helps

Thanks for the information on breastfeeding and LCing. I talked to my midwife as well as a rep from Dr. Atkins and both of them suggested that I wait until I stop breastfeeding. I've got about 4 and a half months left. The midwife said my milk supply could decrease, which I don't want to chance since I'm already low. The Atkins lady said that the induction level is not safe for breast feeding because I might release toxins through my breastmilk, etc.

I appreciate your reply. I didn't know they had done a study on Glucophage and breast feeding. That will be great if we can take it while we breast feed.

Actually I took Glucophage for 9 months will TTC with fertility treatments... from the time Vickie was 9 months old until she quit after 2 closely spaced episodes of croup.... seems having trouble breathing while nursing put a damper on it for her
