I think many of us have long suspected that men's preferences are different than those of advertising agencies and fashion designers. Now it's official. In a groundbreaking new study, this is what Cosmopolitan magazine published in the August 2004 issue:

What's your favorite female body type?

61.6% Curvy with an average rack
20.4% Svelte with big breasts
11.6% Model-thin and small-chested
4.7% Other
1.7% Big and bodacious

They must have quite a bit of confidence in their sampling technique to publish the results to 3 significant digits. Guess I'll have to buy some boobs to at least make the second place position. My body goes straight from svelte to dumpy without stopping at curvy. Hmmm, wonder how many of those surveyed knew what "svelte" means... ;)

Hey, it's a deal! I'd love to not have to search for tall sizes in pants!

I've wondered about this...any guys wanna reply? With how the media bombards us with images of thinness and big-boobness, I wonder if most men buy into that. Whenever I see an average sized guy with a larger girl, I sometimes say to myself "aww..yeah! Superficiality isn't everywhere."

What do you mean? I have curves...I am just hiding them for now.;)

I think one of the reasons the media bombards us with images of skinny women is that it actually goes against our genetics. Only in America, where we have such an incredible excess of abundance do we have to work so hard to be thin, so it must be celebrated. Feh.
Why are breast implants so important, because big breasts come with larger women and women don't want to weigh more, so they put saline packets in their boobs. It's kinda nuts.

Yes, give me a Voluptuous woman with curves that would make Le Mans jealous, a woman who looks like a woman and not a 12 year old boy, a woman who isn't shaped like a test tube, a woman with hips, a round bottom, a chest and a bit or more of a tummy. Wubba.

I mean c'mon, in the annals of fantastic women who will be remembered: Courtney Cox / Kate Moss / Twiggy or Sophia Loren / Marilyn Monroe or any other woman with curves? Who really thinks the skinny Renee Zellweger is better than the curvy Renee Zellweger?

I probably like as many different types and shapes of women as there are women, so I don't believe I buy into that whole media view, and actually some of the women they "push" on us don't appeal to me at all.

A few years ago, Esquire did a survey on what red-blooded American men find attractive.

Shock of all shocks, it was "average". Average height, average weight, average breast size, average noses, average intelligence, and brunette was the preferred hair color.

You know, the type of women we see idolized over and over in men's magazines ;)

Real men really aren't nearly as superficial as the media would like us to believe.

Who will get naked for him and no-one else.

I'm not meaning to be cynical. I just don't think they're all that selective. It's one thing to look and it's another to invest the energy to pursue, too.

More useful survey, same magazine, some time back--who would you like as a one-night stand; who as a wife? VASTLY different lists.

I'm watching my intact-for-not-much-longer Chihuahua court my neutered male cat. This is genetically useless behavior, but the cat is the only target of appropriate size in the vicinity. Now--what would the dog TELL you he liked, if he could tell you? But what is he DOING? Testosterone is the devil. I am SO glad it's not my problem, but it sure is fun to watch it in action.

Don't get me wrong, I love being curvy and having some meat to my bones, but, I rather be a curvy skinny girl then anything else. Where I live skinny is something men look for and the ones that like the big women....god bless them! I just think I would feel better about myself and my attitude if I were a smaller size! Every man has there choice on who to pusue, and if there type is a skinny, brunette, and shy! I'm definetly not there type, where I am blonde, heavier set, and loud anand confident!

But, thats just my opinion!!!

Men certainly aren't anywhere near that shallow - some men prefer slim women, its a fact, but I have NEVER had any problems getting a date - in fact all of the men I have dated have been more than pleased with my shape - even at nearly 300lbs!! Mind you, if it's a boob thing then I win hands down - I'm a 38DD and PROUD!!!!

My husband loves curvy, rounded women--expecially big butts. We met when I weighed 280 and he thought I was beautiful. (He's tall/normal weight.)

While dating I lost nearly 70 pounds. He was still attracted to me because I liked myself better (mostly because I felt better).

I got lazy and comfortable after the wedding and gained it all back. This time I'm losing the weight for me--he could care less.

Well, two men against how many women?....just kidding..

I, for one do not like "skinny" women which usually means "boney"....

I guess average is a good way to describe it....curvy...yes...

I cannot in good consience pass the "Renee Zellweger" question up....

OF COURSE SHE LOOKED BETTER WHEN SHE WAS 20 LBS HEAVIER!!!

The covers of the womens mags are not real people...

My wife has a sexiness that Courtney Cox will never have!...

just my two cents..

I am a curvy skinny girl. Funny, but when I lost my weight, my husband measured me.....at 113 lbs, I was 36, 24, 36. My breasts never shrunk. I was always a 36. What I do find interesting is the current meaning of curves. It is now a "Politically Correct" meaning for being fat. I know fat is an ugly word, but is has nothing to do with curves.

Rachel: I don't understand how you draw the conclusion that "What I do find interesting is the current meaning of curves. It is now a "Politically Correct" meaning for being fat. I know fat is an ugly word, but is has nothing to do with curves."

The grammar in that sentence is terrible, but I'm sure the intent will be understood. Your figure sounds amazing. Though I think what is clear so far in this thread is that most men prefer a bit more meat on the bone. And that does not surprise me in the least. My husband is so thin that it sometimes makes me uncomfortable to hug him. I think because at a certain point we equate "skinny" with "ill".

And whatever happened to the term "plump?" At my height and weight, I could still be called "plump"......as I was when I weighed 40 pounds more. I really don't want to weigh much less....but I wouldn't mind getting rid of the roll around my middle when I sit down.

Hey Gang, :)

The best way I can describe it for me as a guy is to say that when I put my arms around someone I wanna know that I'm not hugging myself.. lol I'm 6 feet and have pretty long arms too. If a girl is too thin it just feels like I'm not holding onto anything..

With regard to curves and more specifically boobs - either is okay - imho... Both are striking and very beautiful. But as the article suggested a balance between the two would be ideal.

Cheers!
