I was just wondering if you have to see a specialist to recieve thyroid medicine, or can a regular family doctor prescribe you thyroid medicine? I have many of the symtoms for hypothyroidism and my mother, both grandparents on my mother's side have it. My grandfather has it severely on my father's side as well. It is obviously hereditary. Any responces would be great. Thanks!

you can go see your regular doctor, they'll check your thyroid levels & if they are low they'll prescibe something for you.
i used to be on thyroid meds for hypothyroidism & just went to my doctor.

If they think you need further care, they may send you to an endocrinologist. That's a doctor who deals with glands like thryoid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenals, pituitary etc.
