Hi! This is Goose....I am on SB day 1. I think a support forum will make a big difference...I have tried low carb before but failed..the 1st time within 3 hours I had my fist in a box of goldfish crackers, the next time when I started to feel faint on day 3 I bought a sandwich for safety reasons  I am ready to get real this time. I am about 12 pounds heavier than I like to be (yikes) I am trying to lose it in time to enjoy a few weeks of bathing suit season. I remember a friend once saying "this is supposed to be my thong summer, and here I am in a 1 piece with a skirt!!!" Anyhow, think I cheated a bit today, look after a 3 year old, and licked the drippies off his popsicle :( but otherwise I have done well, and am off to the gym tonight. I live in Canada, we have low carb products, but of course not as much selection as in the US! If any Canadians have found some good shops/products, let me know!

Hi Goose - Welcome. I did Atkins for a long time, but then switched to the Beach - I just couldn't stick to the high fat anymore. I wouldn't recommend buying too many low carb products out there, they are expensive and you can certainly do without -- just treat yourself once in a while. I have just rejoined Curves, so off to workout tonight also. Good luck -- stay close to this board, you're right, it does make a big difference.

Hi, Goose and Vicki! Yeah, those pesky pounds have started to creep up again. I sort of lost some of my resolve beginning the holidays, then vacations, cookouts, parties -- you get the idea! Anyway, I have a lot more lbs. to lose than you, Goose, but I'm up for mutual support, encouragement and sharing of ideas if you are! (Twelve pounds? YEAH -- YOU can do THAT!) It's just a bit harder when you're so close to your goal. Activity is the key, I think. If you are very active, you can even treat yourself once in awhile without backsliding.
Vicki, You're so right! I tried Atkins too, but I was getting headaches from all the meat fat and nitrates, etc. South Beach is WAY better. I've been cooking more, too. Here is a GREAT link for South Beach recipes: http://www.mizfrogspad.com/south_beach_diet.htm#RecipeLists This lady has very generously donated her time to put all Phase recipe ideas in one place -- she's WONDERFUL!
I also agree about the "Low Carb" products. Lots of them are processed with preservatives and have a lot of salt and/or fat in them. Some of the breads are good, with high fiber and protein and all that; they should be available in Canada, too. (I hope!)
Wishing you all the best for a lovely weekend full of victory! We can do this. I will check back here on a regular basis to look for your and offer support where I can.
Remember: This is for YOU and you are worth it, future Beach Babe!

I have that site in my favorites, I refer to it all the time. She did an amazing job and it's so helpful. I agree, activity is the key, I got so lazy and quit going to Curves, now I realize the weight WILL NOT come off without it now I'm older :yay: I'll check back regularly too.

Hi again!
That link is great! I have added it to my favorites!! I am also going to start a journal I think...I need to be held accountable! Being 12 pounds away from the goal is actually kind of hard. On one hand, you think "hey, I can do this! in just a few weeks"! On the other hand, it is so much easier to justify cheating, example "honestly, I am NOT overweight, still within healthy range, just a bit chubby, it won't hurt if I eat these oreos, it's not like I need to lose 75 pounds" so you see.....BUT...We can all make excuses to suit ourselves can't we?
I am going to start an online diary. I need the support, the catharsis of writing it, and maybe if I have others holding me accountable it will help. I have decided to do this, as day 2, (yesterday) I already cheated...went to BBQ with my low carb kabobs, and low carb mike's hard lemonade (in case I HAD to drink)..I know, I know, alcohol isn't even allowed!) and there is a reason for this....with a bit of a buzz, it is very easy to have the birthday cake or reach into the bowl of chips at the party. I don't want to get into the dirty details of it...but it wasn't pretty.... :o but I don't want to beat myself up about it... I think we have all done the "the diet starts tomorrow buffet!!" so look for my diary... I will try to start it later tonight. Thanks, and I need all you guys for the support! I hope I can support and encourage others too!
Oh..1 more thing..I am quite good about exercising. Walk a ton, go to the gym about 3 x a week, do some of the ball toning classes..it is the emotional and stress eating that has always been my problem...so at least I have the good exercise habits down!!
