Hi everyone,
I'm from Calcutta, India. Anyone out there from this country/city? I'd love to get in touch and see if we can indianise the Atkins cuisine. :yum:
There's only so much of cold soggy spinach or cabbage an Indian can stomach, right?

Hi Edu,

Do you have any idea how many carbs per 100g there are in Cassava? I cant find an answer anywhere!

Thanks,

Mark.

Sorry Mark, no idea, but I would imagine about 80-85% because I do know that Cassava is almost all pure starch.
Best of luck in your search.

Hiya, not indian here, but just wanted to wish you well on your quest for fellow LC indian folk - I would imagine that indian cookery is very difficult to adapt as you tend to use a lot of corn starch/flour/rice in your cooking don't you?
What made you want to go LC in the first place?

Hi Mark,

According to DietClub, cassava has 30.5g carbs per 100g. (Bear in mind we Aussies presubtract the fibre, so the 30.5 is net carbs.)

Emma xx[/QUOTE]

Hi Emma,
Nice to meet you.
About the Indian cookery........actually, its not really hard to adapt to LC. We use rice or wheat flour rotis as a staple to eat things with....y'know curry WITH rice or vegetables WITh rice and so on, just as you folks use bread or pasta. So adapting to LC means just upping the vegetable and meat/fish portions and dropping the rice. Not hard to do at all once you realize that one's food habits are well....just habits!

What made me go LC in the first place? Same reason most everyone else is on this band wagon....to loose weight, get a bit healthier (maybe!) etc

Bye for now and do keep in touch
With greetings from India, Anu

Hi and welcome
Yep....very much a bongo sontan. Nice to meet another from this part of the world. Where are you based?
I notice you said you haven't lost much.......150 from 180 is not much? You've done so well already  I wish I could go half the distance you have already covered. When did u start LCing? I started last July. In the first month I lost rapidly but stalled for a long time after that. In Nov I had some upsets in my family and I suddenly lost 3 kgs then. I've put most of that back but the original loss has stayed.
Anyway, nice of you to join up. Do stay in touch, maybe we can exchange some indianised LC friendly recipes! :yum:
bye and greetings from Cal

Hi there,

Really nice to hear some other indian on the forum. Although I dont live in India I have at some stage faced problems trying to adapt indian food to LC WOL. I'm ok if its just me and hubby at home, but when the parents come to visit and mum cooks, then the problems start! I substitute shirotake noodles for rice (may be difficult to get hold of in India) and it means I can have some gravy. We use less tomatoes in the curries and add in coconut cream etc to increase fat and reduce carbs.

Have been at an all time low on the LC WOE, have had a change of jobs etc and have succumbed to temptation. Thinking of going back on induction at the weekend, easier at the weekend as dont have to plan for work etc. Take care and good to hear from you.

hello anu and all fellow indians...actually anu i had lost weight more from excercising than LCing ( my opnion )...i had lost weight from 180 to 150 pounds by doing treadmil daily for 2 hours ( 1 hour morning and 1 hour evening , 7 days a weeks , no excuses )then i stumbled upon LCing...where r u based, in south or north calcutta ...i am in east coast, USA...i feel it is difficult to LC based on our daily diet where rice and potato are used freely...i try to watch all the high carbohydrate stuff like rice etal that i have minimised, forced myself to drink 10 glasses of water and increase protein uptake...i started LC in january but had start excercising last october

what steps have u taken, are there any major changes in ur diet ...please share ..i am sure if we all inspire each other we can reach our goals (weight ) .......... :D

HI Chebbles, Ohno,
Greeeeaaaat to hear from u guys. Ohno, to answer your question: I live in Salt lake, Calcutta. I have a sis in New Jersey....anywhere near u?
Chebbles.....you've done great already, you dont want to disappear do you? i agree, adapting indian food to LC is difficult, and we also have this huge mental block about eating oil (yuck, ugh, and other expletives flow freely!!) But I guess, if one drops rice, roti, bread, potatoes, one is fairly ok. One thing good about India is that we dont have temptations like dunkin donuts and starbucks lurking at every street corner! If you want a chocolate covered lump of dough you have to move your butt and actually make an expetition to go and get it. Often it's not worth the effort. Is it like that in Australia too?
More later and do keep in touch,
Take care,
Anu

hi anu and all
i stay in rhode island that is near new jersey ( 4 hours )...we also have relatives staying in new jersey ....basically my huband is skinny ( genetically thin ) and can eat chips and pizza all day and not gain one pound....but now days i have managed to control temptation...i think if manage to control "Temptation" major battle is won............after the birth of my son last year i touched 180 pound then i styarted going to gym and LCing as once u hit middle age ur body refuses to loose weight ...i feel u have to drive real hard to loose wieght...hard try but not impossible

Hey Anu,

I have actually put on a little bit since my stats were last posted (I have now amended them) and have changed my goal weight down as I still had a couple of rolls around the midriff at my old goal weight, and really I mean rolls - mainly I want to tone up but I'm sure there is a bit of fat to come off too. Re the donut shops, the australia situation is much more like the american one, temptation is everywhere.

Hi Guys,
Sorry about the long delay. I've been nose to the grindstone....y'know how it is sometmes. And the worst of it is one doesn't get the time to do LC planning....one just grabs whatever is available and runs.....
So how have you been doing? Great progress i notice....good show!!!
But I guess there's something to be said for not getting obsessed....one life after all!!
Gotta run now, I'll catch up with u all later. Stay well,

Okay, gals, so I don't live in India . . . but I am SO interested to know how you are doing on a LC plan in India? For the naive, it would seem so hard . . . so, I am asking. Thanks for any insight. To set things straight, I am truly interested; hopefully I do not seem nosey.

Hi,
Not at all, I dont think you're nosey.
Well in India, there aren't very many LCers....in fact I haven't come across ANY! (Except for me ofcourse!!) The diet scene in this country is skewed towards lo fat not lo carb. Well, us enlightened ones (Ha ha!!) hog the cheeses, tandoori stuff, veggies etc and "TRY " to avoid the rice and other carby cereals. How're you doing? do keep in touch
With greetings from from India

Thanks for the info. I am so glad to know that tandoori is on the approved list, as I absolutely love it. Actually, this past weekend I had some delicious tandoori chicken and didn't want to know if was approved or not . . . I just wanted it! Nice to know I didn't make any mistake!

It has to been hard for you to adjust to higher fat consumption if, in your culture, you are generally low fat. How do you supplement your menus?

anu
Fri, Jul-29-05, 02:59
Hi Whammy,
Eat on, gorge on the tandoori and dont suffer any pangs.....tandoori is high protein AND high fat! Just what the doctor ordered, eh!
In my country, we're mentally conditioned to "HIGH FAT IS BAAAAAAAD". All the mags and other literature extoll the virtues of a low fat diet. So switching to high fat is quite a mental jump. So to start with, I atleast tried to boost the protein content at the expense of fat, until I realised that I was putting quite a strain on my kidneys. Having lost a parent recently to kidney disease, this is a risk I'm not quite willing to take. So it's back to experimentation. Basically, now I'm piling on the butter/oil/other fats on veggies rather than fish & chicken.
I see from your stats that you're pretty near ideal weight anyway. I would seriously suggest not getting obsessed, unless ofcourse you're in an industry that lays a lot of stress on appearances. Anyway, who am I to talk?
Bye now and greetings from India,
Anu

Hi JAnn,
I'm not much of a cook so I dont really have a lot of recipes. I can only suggest that putting a fair amount of butter/olive oil on veggies/fish/chicken makes the stuff pretty yummy and serves the Atkins purpose. Putting on some pepper or other spices makes it even better!
I see you've made good progress already. Congrats and keep up the good work.
Bye, Anu

Fri, Jul-29-05, 22:35
Hi anu,

Thanks for the reply. I, like you, was terrified of fats at the beginning. Here we have also been indoctrinated to believe that zero-low fat is the key to health. Consequently, since protein is higher in fat, we have been taught that carbs must be good. So basically the common wisdom, for many years, has been that we should eat high carbs, low protein; plus, since sugar does not have fats, then sugar must be relatively okay (after all, it only has 16 calories per teaspon, right?). Neither I nor many others see any positive proof in following that doctrine. Otherwise we would not have such an obesity problem in this country. Nor can I say that I benefitted from that practice. I was always hungry, always.

Anyway, it did take me a while to learn to not be afraid of good fats, good protein and good carbs in veggies. Any I feel SO much better. How about you?

anu
Sat, Jul-30-05, 04:50
Hi,
I agree....I felt tons better too after starting Atkins. I started in July last year and I followed the regimen very faithfully for about four months. I also lost a fair bit of weight. in oct last year i lost my mother and somehow after that i haven't been able to motivate myself to get back on the LC wagon. Particularly, lunch in office becomes a real pain....one can carry a lunch box with some chicken or fish but how do you bone up on fats in office? One can hardly carry a lump of butter to work!
What about you? Do you have the same problem?
Anu

Anu,

So sorry for your loss. I sympathize completely; the death of a mother is life-altering for the surviving children. Mine passed away five years ago and not a day goes by when I don't think of her.

I was thinking about your predicament with the lump of butter and work. I, too, used to wonder how to overcome the inability to readily incorporate fats at lunchtime. Ultimately, I bought a small bottle of olive oil and kept it at my desk; I just poured a bit on my food or, if the food was not compatible, I swallowed a spoonful with the meal. Nowadays, it is not so difficult for me because I changed jobs. Plus, this country has become much more sympathetic to low-carbing, so I find that it is not so difficult.

Oh, now that I think of it, I also used to carry flaxseed oil capsules and chew them. They are actually quite tasty. What I mean is that flaxseed oil itself--- as well as ground flaxseed--- is really delicious. The "tastiness" I mention is due to the brand I found, i.e., GNC's brand. Also, some capsules of fish oil supplements can compensate.

Look forward to hearing about your solutions.

Hi and a zillion thanks for your suggestions. The bottle of OO in your desk was quite an innovative idea, I must say. I think I will try that.
I've been dousing my lunch box with frozen butter when i leave for work, madly hoping that the darn thing doesn't melt by the time grub time comes around. Mostly, i find that the lid is smeared with melted butter and some oozing out. (I give the lid a quick lick when no one's looking!!)
I'ts very nice talking to you....do keep in touch.

I am not Indian, but I cook a lot of Indian food because I had an Indian fiance once and learnt how to cook many indian foods from him. I also have a very good indian cookbook, and I have to say, Indian foods is one of the easiest to modify for low-carbing for me. I do have to cut down on onions and for some dishes I limit the coconut milk, but mostly I find it convenient to cook indian food at home rather than eat in a restaurant because they have hidden sugars and carbs here. Most of my serving are around 7g carbs (I count them because I'm doing Atkins), and I don't add salt to the food, so i can eat the foods without rice. (yes, I know it's much more enjoyable with rice) but most of the meat curries I treat like I'm eating a "steak with curry sauce" so with no salt in the food, it is very nice to eat without rice. For veggie curries, I avoid potatoes. I do a lot of vegetable dishes with just curry leaves ,mustard seeds, garlic and bit of onion. Same with the fish dishes.
Do you know once I took some left over pork curry and took it to work the next morning, and mixed ith with 3 egg and made a "curry pork omelette" in the microwave? I tasted very nice and i was very surprised.

Hi Lite and welcome to the forum. Even though you are new to this site, I see that you have got the hang of LCing quite well. Have you been doing this long?
Well i must confess that I've not been really consistent with my diet for the past few months. I promise myself that I will restart, I do start and then some office lunch or birthday or some such other temptation comes along.....wham, i fall off the wagon. I think my problem is basically one of motivation. i guess I need work there. Oh well......
It was nice talking to you, do keep in touch.

Anu!!! I am in India too!!

I live in Hyderabad, so pretty far away from you. But I am sure we deal with similar stresses, food-wise. I am actually an American in India, so I have to say, I don't cook many Indian dishes (don't know how). You can read my journal for my story. I am trying to spread the word of low-carb in this part of India, and people are at least a little receptive to hearing about it (seeing my progress helps to convince them!).

Have a good day,

Hi Alison,
It's really nice to hear from you...I'm really sorry about the long delay. Actually I didn't visit this site for a while....quite a few holidays in between. Anyway, welcome to India, this forum and this thread!!
I see you've made stunning progress. Congratulations! keep it up! How's your success been in spreading the lo-carb word in Hyderabad? I've tried at this end and i must say there is a lot of resistance. Since you've been in India, you must have read the write-ups in the newspapers, mags, journals etc that low fat is the way to a dieters paradise. This view is very ingrained in the folks around here. But I have a couple of friends whom i persuaded to give Atkins a try - they are now total converts!
Bye for now Alison, nice chatting with you.

Hi Sandhya, (I went to the "advanced mode" so that I could give you the a smiley HI but there were some errors on the page, so I'm back in the quick mode!) Anyway, pls read this as a BIG HI from Anu in India! Great chatting with you!.
From your "here" and "there" remarks I understand that you are from "here" but live "there".....the US right? Well I live in good 'ole Calcutta and let me tell you it's not at all difficult to lc in India....apart from the fact that one doesn't have too much support from friends and family. Sooo much butter, eeks, you'll get fat (and have a heart attack). You get the drift......I would think that it's lots more difficult to lc in the US...all those starbucks coffee shops, dunkin donuts and other such temptations lurking around every corner waiting to pounce on hungry lc'ers!
Regarding recipes...I'm not much of a cook, but it basically helps if one's a non veg. Baingan bharta with lots of mustard oil, yesterday's left over fish or chicken, some lettuce and cheese does it very well!
Bye now, hope to chat with u again, and wish you a very happy new year.

Hey Anu, :)

Good to hear from you.Yes, i'm settled in the US, but was born in Calcutta  .Lived major part of my life in Delhi though.

I'm so glad you find locarbing easy while being in India . For me , i had a really tough time, in the sense everytime i'd start with it,there would be a birthday party or a festival around the corner :yum: and everything would go for a six !!!Life here is comparatively lonlier. Another problem that i faced was the food labels not having required information....and ofcourse constantly explaining ppl that it indeed is another healthy alternative way of living.

Anu , i totally agree with you when you say this place is loaded with junk food joints, but for us Indians there's nothing like simple ghar ka khaana-Just INDIAN food.(My mouth's watering at the thot of gajar ka halwa :yum: mmmm !!) After a while you dont even feel like looking at all the cheesy food that's available here and is so popular because of the busy lifestyle ppl have here.

However, one plus point is that a lot of variety in terms of lo-carb food is available.Lots of cheap non veg food(cold cuts), variety of cheese, protien chocolate bars , milk shakes and other items of daily usage are readily available.I found this WOL rather expensive n India.

Anyways, getting back to Menu's- i love baingan ka bharta-( do you put fewer than regular onions/tomatoes as onions are pretty high on carbs).

My typcal menu is-
Fried eggs for B/F with some cheese
chicken /baked fish for lunch with some salad for lunch
chicken/veggies for dinner
for snacks i have a SF jello or a just mix some cocoa with cream and splenda.Lots of water thru the day.
I'm having a tuff time trying to cut down the jello or cocoa dessert.I feel as though i'm cheating when ever i have it , even though its very lo on carbs.
Do you know about the carb content in besan? Can't seem to find it.But IMO it shud be ok while on maintainance. What say u?

More later, gotta rush now...B'bye

Hi Sandhya,
Great to hear from you
Yes you are right....the degree of socialising is greater here...birthdays, pot luck dinners, weddings, lunch club meets...... :yum: so we end up not being able to resist the yummies on offer! If you throw in the the mishi doi which Calcutta is famous for....oops you are off the wagon with a bump :help:
I guess self control and discipline is called for in all walks of life, sigh!
Re my menu for the day, well lets see......
I dont usually manage breakfast, too early
So lunch is normally some lettuce leaves with cheese and a small piece of left over chicken or fish from the previous day
Dinner is veggies with whatever non veg everyone is having. No rice, roti, bread.
Yes, the baingan bharta does take a fair bit of onions, but I try to cut down on that, though it does compromise the taste. :p
Nice chatting with you.....do write in soon
With greetings from india,Anu

Hey Anu
Wish you a Great 2006 !!!
Anu, is that all you eat for the day? My appetite must be that of an elephant compared to you (lol).
Actually i've realised that this diet makes you feel more full and satisfied.I've noticed that my hunger has gown down.Earlier i used to eat all thru the day, whatever i cud lay my hands on-cookie, namkeen, chips, candy !!! but now i have to force myself to eat every once in a while to get my metabolism going.(I have the worst metab. ever !!.Grr)So my typical menu includes some eggs and cheese, chicken, fish and veggies.I've moved on to OWL so ive also added nuts and a lo carb chocolate bar (occassional treat !)
I'm not sure if its the right kinda food to be added...but i certainly know that it keeps me going.I've run out of ketostix , so will buy them today alongwith my other groceries.
How are you doing on your plan? Are you happy with the progress? I feel i'm losing rather slowly....but since i'm losing inches -I'm NOT complaining ..hehe

More later...Happy lo-carbing until then

Hey ladies! Can I join your group? I was born in India but moved to Canada when I was 13 yrs. old so this is home. I am 53 yrs. old and I have one grown up son and a daughter in University. I got married again about 2 yrs. ago to the nicest man in the whole world! He had never eaten Indian food but now he loves it so I make it once in a while.

So how do you low carb indian food? We just went to the City and out for a buffet - we ate everything in site including NAAN...ummmmmmmm.....

So today is Day 1 for us - I was 136.2 this a.m. and I need to be 120 by Feb. 25 as we are going to see my sis in the U.S.

hey again Jas!
Just posted a msg in the other thread and found u here...
Congratulations on finding the Man of your choice.I wish you have a happy & healthy life ahead .
My indian lo-carb food is basically veggies and chicken cooked the Indian way with lotsa spices.I've absolutely stopped having any pulses and cut down on onion - tomatoes paste in my food.Breads are absolutely out- a big NO NO !!(and now you talk abt Naan yumm)

Jas, which diet are you following, SB?(as mentioned in ur plan section)What stage are you in? Right now, your goal seems too high to me coz my metab. sucks !but ive seen a lot of ppl achieve that - so All the best !
Have fun lo-carbing!

Good morning Sandhya and thanks for posting on the other thread! You are probably right as my metabolism sucks too...since I reached this age....so I will settle for 10 lbs. That is a whole dress size so I will be happy with that.

I actually don't follow any diet but if you were to look at it, it would probably look more like SB.

Okay a question for Sandhya and Anu - what is baingan bharta? Bharta is made with eggplant - right? I also would like to find some indian fish recipes as we have a lot of salmon that we brought back from our honeymoon! If you are interested, check out our wedding pics at:

http://community.webshots.com/user/jas280

So what do you ladies do? I am an Admin Assistan to the Dean at a local College. I figure I have 7 more years of working and then I want to retire and look after our acreage, do lots of gardening and of course fishing! DH and I love our camping and fishing! :D

Sandhya
Tue, Jan-10-06, 12:03
OMG Jas !

you look gorgeous in those pics...and so very happy.STAY that way-ALWAYS :)

Jas, the baingan bharta that we make is kinda modified to lower the carb content. I now broil an eggplant (you could cook it on direct flame or BBQ it too)till the cover is slightly crisp-peel it off and mash the pulp.saute onions and tomatoes in a wok with some red chilli powder and salt and add the pulp to it.cook for 3-4 mins and it's ready.Onions are high on carbs so dont use more than 1/2 (medium size).Originally this recipe is made with lots of onions and tomatoes and little pulp- but we now do a reverse !The indian food cooked at home is pretty different than what you get in restaurants.Home cooked food is light, less oily and more nutritious. Therefore you might find a taste variation when you cook the same food at home. :yum:

Cabbage ,mushrooms, spinach are low on carbs too, so you could try adding them to your diet.

Regarding fish recipes-Anu would be the right person to tell us abt those - i usually bake mine. Just put a few drops of olive oil and lemon juice on Salmon and bake it for 15-18 mins once cooked add lemon pepper on top and eat ! :yum:

Here's a link you could use for simple Indian recipes- www.ruchiskitchen.com

Jas , i feel for me it's important to follow one particular diet. It gets easier when things are formatted for me. If i had to devise a diet for myself , i'd go nuts thinking how much protien, Fat or no fat...breads,sugar-how much ? etc...

Anyways , that's just me !

Will catch with you later- right now i'm gonna make some eggs for myself-My tummy's growlingggg........B'bye

Morning everyone! I am proud that I started exercising again last night. We have a bowflex which has been collecting dust so last night we started our routine. How was everyone's evening?

Supper was chicken and salad and the scale did reward me with a 1/2 lb. drop.

Sandhya, do you cook Indian food all the time? I find I overeat when I cook Indian food as I love it and miss it. But then again if I cooked it more often, I would not overeat! I love daal but it has tons of carbs. Also we love our Paneer - but I imagine this is high in carbs as well.

Well back to work for me - will check in later...... :cheer:

G'morning Jas,

I'm glad u've taken to exercising again-and congrats on ur wt. loss.I have made plans to go for an hour of brisk walking with another friend (thrice a week.)Exercising is always easier and more fun if you have a partner.

Chicken and salad is a great combination .Its always good to have your carbs with protien, for faster digestionand minimal absorption of carbs.

I do cook indian food most of the time since thats what we like to eat on a daily basis. Its basically one propper meal that the family eats together.

Yeah, Dals are high on carbs, but i believe you can eat paneer in moderation (small helpings once out of induction).

catch ya later-Gotta go take a shower and chk the dreaded scale !!!!

B'bye

So you are in California Sandhya? It must be absolutely gorgeous there - like the movies protray. I am in frozen tundra but this year it is exceptionally warm. We have been having temperatures around -2 which is pretty good for Alberta, Canada.

So how many pounds are you trying to lose?

Finally it is Friday!!! Scale down to 134 this a.m. but the weekend is lurking and I don't do so well on the weekends!!

Thanks for the welcome Anu. Someday I want to take my DH to India - especially to Simla as I was born there. As he is white  he probably will do fine in Kashmir as well. I have not been there since 1991. I speak Punjabi & Hindi (but with a Canadian accent) so I think I could manage. I understand the culture and of course love the food.....as does DH.

So how many kids do you have Anu or for that matter are you married? When you next check in please give me some recipes for fish!! I have bought some masala (pre-packaged) but have not made it yet.

Sandhya....yep...thanks for staying in touch or I would be by myself. Looks like your goals are very close to mine - 10 lbs. or so....hey, have you tried the Baskin Robins hard candy made with splenda? I keep these in my desk to curb my cravings.... :D

Well have a wonderful weekend ladies....I do not have internet at home so I will check in on Monday..... :agree:

How are you ladies doing?

Hi Jas, Sandhya ,
Good to hear from you gals. :)
Yes, I'm married, have two kids- a girl (17) and a boy (14). Both are in school at the moment, though my daughter graduates next year. Then we get on the college search merry go round, sigh!! She's good at art, so graphic design/animation or some such thing is what she's looking at....let's see what happens.
As for me, I'm 45, I work in a public sector company in the marketing wing, currently posted in Calcutta, but transferable to any place in India. We all dread the transfers......looking for schools, finding packers, dealing with breakages, looking for a house, etc. etc, etc...... :p Anyway, no point worrying about it.
Sandhya's already given you the low down on fish recipes, sounds really delicious, does'nt it? We generally coat the fish with salt and turmeric powder and fry it in mustard oil. Mustard oils are supposed to be heart healthy and anyway the fish tastes great! :yum: You could eat this with fresh salad and bingo, there you are! Though I get so little time to cook, I eat the same as everybody else, but leave out the rice/rotis/bread. (cuts the hassle!!) Actually, in India we are a lot better off in terms of domestic help...I have a girl who cooks everyday so I dont really need to go to the kitchen on a regular basis. Besides I have to travel a bit on business, so the family would go hungry when I was'nt there! All in all the system works fine. And as i was telling Sandhya a while back.....we dont have to deal with the temptations of Starbucks or Dunkin' donuts lurking around every corner! But darn it I'M STILL FAT!!!! Exercise, exercise........I know, I know. :D

Well talk to ya all soon,
Anu

Morning Anu or it is night in India - so hope you are sleeping well. Since I started menopause, I have trouble sleeping. Also I am on Zyban which keeps you awake.....

I hear you on having help in the kitchen, gardening, etc. etc. Our relatives in India seem to love all this and sometimes when they come over to Canada, they are amazed at how much work we do here. Your daughter sounds creative and there is so much demand for graphic designers!

My daughter is in 3r'd yr. of University and is taking a degree in Social Work - or some field of it. It, to my knowledge, was a 4 yr. course but she plans to take it in 5 - just means more money mom has to put out - the ex pays nothing.....sometimes Canadian laws suck!

So I did good yesterday - broiled steak and salad for supper - drank all my water and the scale rewarded me with a 135.4 in the morning.....this is a loss of what I gained over the weekend.... :D

Sandhya - hope you are doing well!

Hello ladies

I'm so excited- my wt has finally come down to 138 lbs. and has stayed there for a cpl days :yay: .I think what works for me is to stick to the basic induction. My metabolism does'nt allow me to have more than 20 g carbs.I'd be happy to continue this way as long as i keep losing lbs or inches.

Talking about sleep, i did'nt know menopause had an effect on that ! Jas-What kind of changes have you noticed since you started Menop? What about mood swings? I keep warning my DH abt his "troubled" time ahead, when all 3 women in the house will go thru TOM at different times thru the month!!!...lol...Each one pouncing and screaming at the slightest provocation.. :bash: .hehe, I'm sure the poor guy has started having nightmares or is thinking of reserving a bed and breakfast !!

Anu- Graphic designing and animation is an excellent choice. The gaming/ animation market is still very hot and flourishing.I suggest she takes up a full time extensive course that deals with free hand sketching- computer animation,Flash or action scripting, with other image and video editing software.

Coming back to the main topic- have you ppl tried increasing ur carbs for a few days and then getting back to lo-carbing..... Any positive experience with it? Does any one know of a vegetarian plan that's lo-carb and works? I need it for DH who's a pure vegetarian(no eggs- no meat).

will catch you all soon- till then TC

Happy lo-carbing ppl !

Hi Jas, Sandhya,
Great to hear from you both and thanks for  on my daughter's career choice......though I can hardly call it a "career" choice as of now....she has a long long way to go!
Good to know you girls have been having some success. I'm like you Sandhya.....only basic induction works for me. One roti, one darned roti is all it takes to derail me! Fortunately, I don't really have an additiction for sweets :yum: (I can't stop myself from that generous helping from the dessert tray....but I don't go looking for sweets if there aren't any in the house!) Big deal? You're right...... :p
There's a thread on this site which talks of carb cycling....it generated a whole lot of interest. I think it's on "general low carb". Y'know....a few days on, a few days off and a 1/2-2lb drop after each cycle! Have a look.
If your hubby is a pure veggie....I dont think Atkins is the right plan for him, unless he's prepared to eat tons of butter!
I've got to go now, hope to chat with you sometime soon,
Greeting from India, Anu

It is Friday ladies......what are everyone's plans for the weekend? It is getting colder here in Alberta, Canada - still no complaints though as the winter has been pretty mild for us!

I am spending tomorrow with DS who is an Electrical Engineer and is 24 yrs. old. Just recently Grandma gave him all kind of Indian spices which he does not know how to use. Both my kids love Indian food as they have been eating it since they were babies! So tomorrow, I am teaching my son how to make Daal, Sabji, rice and Makhni Chicken! We are also going to play some cards and hopefully, I can beat him! DH is going ice quadding on the frozen river with his buddies!

So my scale has stayed around 135 for a few days....I hope I don't get carried away tomorrow....weekends are really bad for me!

Sandhya - good job on the 138 lbs.....you are very similar to my weight. As for menopause, I believe I have had all the symptoms some time or the other. I used to be always cold but now I sleep with the window slightly open. Mood swings....ha ha - I think this has been going on all my lilfe - cannot blame it on menopause :D I started some hormone thereapy about 3 yrs. ago but it did not agree with me - I developed a rash and also gained a lot of weight...def...not acceptable. So I just use some herbs and basically live with it!

As for carbs, I eat at least 2 fruits a day but then again I am not on Induction...I just try to eat good carbs and stay away from rice & rotis (which I love)! So your hubby is pure vegetarian - wow! So do you cook meat on a regular basis?

Anu - I hear you about rotis....my weakness.....good thing I don't make this very often. Tomorrow will be a challenge as when I make Mah Ki Daal - I always overeat! I am sure there are a million carbs in this.... :yum: I have a girlfriend who swears that increasing carbs works for her!

Any ways, back to the old grind....see you all on Monday!

The weather is beautiful here.....where is everyone?

Have you guys heard of the Special K challenge - well, I am going to do this for 2 weeks - call me silly or what - but if I can eat some good carbs, reduce portions and still lose 6 lbs. in 2 weeks - I will do it!

Sandhya
Thu, Jan-26-06, 12:08
Hey Jas

Sorry for not being arnd, have been busy with the other threads gathering info. What is this K challenge? and can one really lose that much in 2 weeks- WOW.I've only abt lost 6 lbs in 2 1/2 months.
After a lot of researching and confliction, i've pushed hubby on a SBD.This one seems most appropriate for vegetarians.Lets wait and see the results- if any !
B'bye

Jas50
Fri, Jan-27-06, 11:27
Sandhya.....I really don't know if it will work but it is worth a try. I like cereal and over the years of low carb, I must admit that I have missed my fruits & cereal....all in moderation is the key. SBD is actually what I try to do as it allows for nuts & fruits. It is healthy if nothing else!

The Special K challenge is that you replace any 2 meals of the day with a bowl of cerial and 1% milk. Eat fruits & veges for snacks. Eat a sensible meal at supper time. Sounds doable!

So it is Friday.....I have so much cleaning to do this weekend. The furnace people are coming over to clean the ducts which no doubt will create more dust! Never ending.

Anu - I envy you with the servants and all......

Hi Jas, Sandhya,
Great of you to keep writing in. Jas, I KNOW....house work is never ending. In India, even though one gets hired help, there's a lot that needs to be done and weekends are the only opportunity. One's also got to remember that India's a very very dusty country...that's one thing you guys dont have to contend with, is'nt it?
Stay well both of you and happy locarbing!

Hey everyone

Jas,After i heard from you about the K challenge, saw a whole lot of commercials on TV- did it work for you? Do let us know about your progress.I'm hooked to the basics.Anything above 20-25g Carbs reaches my wrong spots.I am so fed up trying to measure and dissect before i eat.Basically i do well for 2-3 weeks and there walks in TOM to blow it all up :(

Talking about cleaning- i have my entire house upside down.I'm trying to swap my study with the guest room, and in the process have turned the house into a fish market. So now i'm sitting on a pile of clothes inside my closet, trying to find wt.loss solutions -tips and tricks !!

Anu, how are you doing ? Are you experiencing any good results ?I've put hubby on SBD and he hasnt lost any weight yet.Keep telling him-Patience is the name of the game, while i scream my heart out here!
tch- Double standards

Catch you guys later !

Hi

I'd like to join this thread.

I am Indian (gujarati) born in the United States. I started to enjoy enjoy indian food 5 years ago. When my mom cooked indian food when I was a child, I never liked it. I wanted to eat what the other kids were eating. It was until I met my husband that I realized how good indian food is.

Now I love my mom's cooking and wish I learned how to cook indian food. I'm trying to learn how to cook indian low carb. It's just so hard when I never really learned how to cook indian food. I'd love to hear some easy recipes for chicken (especially tandoori). My mom is a vegetarian so she doesn't know how to make any of the meat dishes. I eat steak too and was wondering if anyone had recipes. My favorite dish is saag paneer. Spinach is very low in carbs, right? Does anyone have a recipe for it?

Neela welcome - I am new here as well but Anu and Sandhya are soooooo nice. Funny you should say that saag paneer is your fav. It is my hubby's too and he is WHITE Canadian! He had never eaten any Indian food before he met me which was approx. 10 yrs. ago. Now whenever we go to the City, we have to go an Indian Smorg!! The only suggestion I have for Indian food is to leave potatoes, rice, daal & rotis out.

I also cheat when I cook Tandoori Chicken - I have bought a jar of paste from an Indian Store which I marinate with some yogurt and grill on the barbecue. Indian food, I find, is very easy to cook. The only thing is that it uses so many onions which are high, so try to do with less onions (yep - I know it affects the taste - lol)

Anu - I hear you on the housework! Did you say that we don't have any dust.... :D Girl, I have a lot of dust! You see, I live on an acreage about 1/2 hr. from the town I work in and we are beside a very busy road so it generates dust. Then we have the farmers all around us and when harvesting comes, they generate a lot of grain dust - but it probably isn't as bad as India though. My sister lives in Houston, TX and they use their air conditioning a lot and they have hardly any dust....I guess with our furnaces, we are stuck.

Sandhya - I sort of fell off the Special K challenge ( :help: hides her head in shame) but I have started again. DH is away on a course so there is no reason I should not lose weight this week. So you are remodeling?

Hi Jas -

My husband is white too and he loves Indian food. He is the reason why I started to eat Indian food again. So I want to learn to cook so we both can enjoy Indian food. His favorite is saag paneer too.

Hey Neela.

Welcome to the thread! I'm so glad new lo-carbers are joining in.This thread is kinda slow, but very motivating.

It's nice to know you've taken to Indian food now.I can totally understand your situation when as a kid you hated it,well, so do my kids. They want to carry "junk" in their brown bags to school.I feel as you grows older you tend to get back to your roots and the basics. Now i eat every single food that i once hated as a kid , be it ginger, garlic, or green veggies.

Saag or palak paneer is very easy to cook. Just blanch spinach in boiling water so that it 's soft and tender. Do not throw away the water.Blend with some green chillies till it becomes a paste( depends on how smooth or coarse you want it). In a pan or wok drizzle some oil/ ghee (i use olive oil).put in a spoonful cumin - let it be golden brown , add crushed or chopped ginger, garlic- abt 1 tsp,add some dried red chilli peppers(optional), red chilli powder, paneer cubes and saute' for a few minutes. You can also add 1tbsp onions and tomatoes if you like (i don't since onions are high on carbs)Mix the spinach puree and let it cook for 5-10 mins to get the right flavor and consistency. You can add the water you saved from blanching if the spinach gets to thick in consistency.Add some salt towards the end and your dish is ready. You can garnish with a dash of butter/ ghee/ heavy cream.

You can try cooking tandoori veggies, chicken too. Just mariate all veggies or chicken in some olive oil, Tandoori masala, ginger garlic paste, some salt, roasted cumin powder, orange-red (tandoori color) and carom seeds(1/2 tsp).Omit yogurt to keep it lo-carb

Remember to cut the veggie, chicken pcs slightly thick.Keep aside for a cpl of hours.Let it cook in preheated oven or on outdoor grill (yummy :yum: ) drizzle some oil in between to keep the pcs tender.cook for abt 10-12 mins till the pcs are tender inside and crispy/smoke/ charred on the outside.Sqeeze some lemon juice on top or sprinkle chaat masala and serve. :yum:

Hope this helps.
Gotta go feed the roaring monster in my tummy now!

B'bye and keep lo-carbing!

Nay, me not remodeling-simply trying to distinguish and segregate spaces.Making room for guests coming this summer.

Jas, can you give me some tips on SBD .I'm waiting for my book to arrive and have searched the websites like crazy for vegetarians on SBD.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I will definitely try to cook a little more with your advice. We've been eating american food for the most part, except we spice up the green beans with some indian spices. They are so good. I can't believe I actually get cravings for green beans!

Jas - Your wedding was beautiful! I'm very happy for you that you found the best man! Yes, the picture is me. Thanks for the compliment! There are some more pictures in my gallery. I have pictures of my two dogs in there too. They are cute!

G'morning Ladies

I have finally recieved the SBD book. Hopefully will manage to find time to go through it.Hubby aint losing any weight and is getting restless.Well, neither am i - but i know i hav'nt been very good lately.Too much of allowed food can be bad too. That's what i'm doing or rather overdoing.

Hey, i tried making seekh kebabs, well- not exactly looks wise- these were without the skewers, like round shammi kebabs.MMM mmm MmMm...i'll make a big batch today and freeze them for emergencies. For those who want to know the recipe, here it is:

Ground turkey/ chicken/mutton (i used trukey as its easily available)
Chopped leeks/green onions
green chillies
ginger-chopped
garlic-chopped
Coriander or parsley
roated ground cumin
red chilli powder
roasted ground coriander
2 eggs to bind the dough
olive oil-abotu 2 tbsp
salt

If you make indian food often, you'll have most of the spices at home, you know what i'm talking about, but-If you cant find the spices mentioned above just use all in one-Seekh kebab masala found in any Indian grocery store.or spice it up with your own spices, maybe even some tandoori masala if you dont have anything else!

make into small round balls and gently flatten it.
Pre-heat oven on 375D, and throw these in & bake for about 15-18 mins till cooked. broil for 5 more mins.Have with coriander chutney or hot salsa
Enjoy ! This dish is absolutely lo-carb and very yummy....you can even add some grilled veggies on the side.

Bye for now- Keep lo-carbing

Hey there

I'm feeling so horribly bloated and its not even TOM- Must be the nuts i've been munching , and oh yes, the pria bar i ate !!!
What a horrible feeling...

I wonder how long i'll keep going back and forth like this. I need to be more honest with myself. No cheats means NO CHEATS.

How's everyone doing? How are you all dealing with the"sweet tooth"? Are you all exercising? My exercise is limited to walking 2-3 miles/day other than the housework and kids which is lotsss.....(according to me !)

Do write in what's happening with everyone.Any new tips, magic spells or potions to lose 10 pounds as in woosh ?..Huh...Anyone.........ANYONE....?

neela26
Wed, Feb-08-06, 19:15
I've been cheating a lot too. I'm on during the week, then cheat for 3 days in a row. It's a vicious cycle. I've decided to go back on induction and count every little carb again. I also decided to start eating breakfast again. I found I'm a lot more successful when I eat breakfast. It curbs your appetite and keeps your blood sugars in check.

Jas50
Thu, Feb-09-06, 10:44
Hey ladies! Cheats - no one is better at it than I am. Like you neela, I do real well for a few days and then cheat and the 2 lbs. that I lost come right back on. I am certainly not going to make my goal before I leave for Houston. The only good thing is that DH and I are exercising faithfully. The pants are not as tight but not as comfy as I would like them to be.

Work is so busy here....I might have to work this Saturday. DH also leaves on Sunday for a course for 4 days....God I miss him when he is away....must mean that I love him.... this Valentines day will be the first one that we will be apart....

Sandhya, how is DH doing with the SB?

neela26
Fri, Feb-10-06, 07:31
I don't like it when DH leaves too. I'm usually OK for the first day or two then I get lonely. It is nice to be able to watch what I want to watch on TV!

I've been doing pretty good this week so far. The weekend is always hard for me. We are having chicken wings tonight so I think I'll be OK. Tomorrow we are going out to dinner with some friends for DH's 30th birthday so that will be a little more challenging. I still haven't gotten anything for DH. Any ideas?

Jas50
Fri, Feb-10-06, 10:01
Neela, it must mean we are totally in love!! Today DH went to the hospital to get his blood work done....we met at the gas station by accident at 8:00 - of course he gives me a big kiss - tongue and all :D and the gas attendant just about freaks out....of course he has never seen my hubby....it was really hillarious!

I agree about the remote!! MEN :agree:

Gifts - 30th ummmmmmmmmmmm - It would depend what he likes! But whatever you get him Neela, make sure to do one thing that he will remember.....for example, I have dressed up in a boustiere (sp?) and nylons to greet him when he comes home or some special thing at bedtime.....let your imagination roam.....ENJOY!!

Hello everyone

Sorry for being away from all the action.Just been very busy .Much as i try to be good....i end up cheating during TOM. So whatever i lose during the month comes right back to where it belonged ... Depressing...huh..:mad:

So i see Valentines was very eventful for you girls.....reminds me of my younger days (lol) This time, it was working like crazy all day long and then we finally hit the bed with only enuff energy to cuddle up and drift off to sleep.Half asleep i heard him murmuring and remembering how we spent our first valentines together.....that was enuff for me...!! Not that i mind being wooed with a dozen red roses, but hey if he did that-i'd die of a heart attack..!!!I prefer him the way he is.

SO Jas, you have a great time in Houston.Enjoy the weather and family.:dazzle: Try and be as good as you can !!!

Neela, Anu- what's up ? How are u 2 doing ? ive been stalled at 139 for almost a month and a half. What's your progress like?

Will try to get in here more frequently....U all Take care and keep lo-carbing !

Well, I am back from sunny Houston!! We have slippery roads here so much snow that driving is treacherous! What a change from Houston weather - it was so nice and warm! We had tea every morning outside on the deck. All my sis' flowers were still blooming! Sometimes I think we have rocks in our head living out here!!

I already miss my sister - we had such a great time! My sis is skinny - I felt quite fat! I gained about 7 lbs. so I need to get serious!

So how are you ladies doing?

Hey Neela - good for you! I thought I had dieted and lost some before I went but standing next to my sis...I was fat! (sigh!) My birthday is in April - so the diet is starting in earnest! Are you doing Induction? Costa Rica sounds great - is it expensive to go there?

Shocking Story about Gurgaon !!!!!!

Read this true story... and let everybody you know in and around Delhi,

especially Gurgaon know this.......

My friend lives in Delhi... One day he went to Gurgaon to visit his

uncle for some days. One evening he and some other of my college friends

went to Priya's for a movie. He had so much fun that he forgot that it was

very late. He reached Gurgaon around midnight......

He had to walk about a mile from where his friend dropped him.... As he was

walking alone, he could sense that the night felt very creepy as it was so

dark. While walking, he was astonished to see an old creepy looking guy

selling some books. It was a very unusual thing to see a thing like

that..... It got the shivers on him when he noticed that his old guy is

unusually pale and staring at him...

The old guy said "Son why don't you get a book...it would keep you

company". Then he did something which he would regret for the rest of his

life .........

My friend started to act brave & thought why not & had a look at his

collection.. he noticed that all the books were related to supernatural

activities...but he found one that was very interesting. So he asked the

old man "how much is it?"....

The old guy replied, "Well son...this is an interesting book...it's only

for Rs 250. "

My friend was shocked and said "but...but...it's expensive"

This time the old man stared which freaked my friend. My friend quickly

checked all his pockets & found Rs.200 & said "This is all

I hav e." The old guy replied "It's OK son ...you can have the book

for that price"

As ! my friend was just about to run for home...the old man called

back & said "Son ... whatever happen, you don't ever flip the book

to it's last page... remember these words or you would regret it...!!!!!"

My friend nodded and never looked back ... Reaching home...he

quickly asked his Uncle whether there was any new old book seller

nearby? The Uncle replied "not that I know of but ...we've heard that

there's 1 old man comes once in a while during full moon nights but heard

that there is something creepy about it...why son?"

My friend freaked out... he told his uncle "nothing uncle...just

asking". He started reading the book with the old man's words on

his mind. At night, 2 o'clock, as he went to bed, a gush of wind blew which

chilled him up to his bones. At that glimpse, he noticed the wind had blown

the pages to its last page. He remembered what the old man has said! But we

humans tend to have the tendency to know. Out of curiosity, he flipped to

the last page & fainted...

What he saw at the last page is stated below:

Don't look further down if you have a weak heart I warn you

..........

Original price:-- Rs. 20/-

Promotion price:-- Rs. 10/-

Ha Ha Ha ! I also wasted my time reading this mail so why cant you?

no i'm from Liverpool UK

I'm going to Goa for 4 weeks on the 23rd of this month for a vacation, to see if I can still take the heat 95F today (not a spring chicken any more) and just see about retiring in India.

I have been to India many times when I was serving in the merchant navy but its not the same as being there for a long stay.

Hi Jas

I hope to look good in that bikini! I've been working so hard and staying at or under 25 carbs a day and I didn't lose any weight last week. It was so upsetting! I hope it starts to come off soon. I have less than two months left!

Jas50
Thu, Mar-16-06, 11:57
You will do it Neela....I was 134.2 this a.m. Of course my bikini days are long gone but I would settle for shorts and a tank top....

Hey Lez - is it fairly cheap to travel there? I am wondering about the hotels, sight seeing, etc.

Lez
Tue, Apr-25-06, 15:47
Hi Jas

I don’t know where you live so I cant say regarding travel costs.
Hotels vary from a few $/night up to $100s/night the most expensive I noticed was $150/night.

What most independent travellers do is get to Goa, find an hotel and book 2 night and go look for an apartment for about $150/week, as far as I could see everything is booked on a daily basis. Charter flights are in the region of $1000/1500 for two weeks from the UK.
Taxies are very cheep my taxi from the airport to my hotel an hours drive cost an agreed price of $15.00 and carry up to 4 people

Sight seeing and guided tours are in abundance and easy to arrange, also very cheep a day trip to a spice farm including transport, food and drinks will set you back about $20 I was not to impressed eating curry chicken and rice with my fingers off a banana leaf, but it did taste good, to feed and wash their elephants is extra, about $5 didn’t understand that, being charged to do the work of a Mamute (sp)

Food is some of the best I have tasted most restaurants serve Indian, Goan, Chinese and European food and very cheep the most I paid was $16 for lobster. Waiting, well you have to wait for you food everything is cooked fresh, nothing pre cooked or warmed over.
Tipping is not compulsory but expected 10% is quit enough say a meal and drinks for 2 came to $30 a $3 tip is 2 days pay for a waiter.

If you speak Hindi, then half the above prices.

Hi Anu,
My name's Natasha and i currently live in Delhi. i will move to Bangalore in June.
I am 15 kgs over weight and am desperate!! I have been on every conceivable diet but yo-yo back to being over weight.
I am very tempted to do the Atkins diet but find it very hard to make it compatible with Indian food.
I don't eat red meat except for bacon.
Have you had any success with this??
HELP!!! I would really like to start a diet plan....but dont know how to go about it.

Jas, Neela, Lez,
Hi to all of you. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Goa. There are just as lovely places in other parts of India too. Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim....I could go on and on and on...... Give them a try sometime too. :)

Soulmia....welcome to this site. You've come to the right place. There are many many discussion areas on the Atkins way of life and I'm sure you'll find them useful. As for finding the right diet plan.....Atkins is a very good plan, but I suggest you read the book first. If you understand the science behind it, the chances of your sticking with the plan would be that much better. :agree: Also, Atkins doesn't tell you to eat less. The diet keeps you full, lets you eat the stuff like butter, bacon, meat (sinful stuff according to other diet plans :p ) AND helps you to loose weight....what could be better?
As for adapting to the Indian style of cooking/eating.....I've found that cutting out the rice and roti is all you really need to do. Once you can get your mind around not eating the subzi/dal "WITH" something, it works fine. So basically, you continue eating whatever you did before (excluding the potatoes, carrots, peas) WITHOUT the rice/roti. So not much extra effort also.
I'll just add one pc of advice..............don't get obsessed with this whole weight thingy. It took years for you to to get to your present weight, don't expect it to fall off in a hurry. Adopting the Atkins way is a lifelong commitment and if you are looking for quick fixes, the yo-yo is all you will get!

All the best in your efforts, and do keep writing in. This is a great site for support in weight loss attempts! :)

Soulmia - welcome! Hey, how much is 15 kg? Patience is the key along with peseverence....I lack in both - lol! What ever plan you follow, post lots as we ladies enjoy our chit chat!

Okay things were going pretty good but then last Friday, I had a quad accident - I was a passenger behind DH. We hit a major hole, flew up in the air 4 feet and the back tire ran over my leg and foot. The result - sprained ankle - black & blue and on crutches.

Lots of pain but I am getting better! Advil helps! Sitting in bed and eating has not helped and summer is here....yikes!

Natasha....GOOD LORD....Freak accident is right! How often does that happen with an elephant! I rode an elephant when I was 10 yrs. old in India. But thank God, that trip has good memories! Lucky you only had a fractured wrist - it could have been so much worse - as could my accident!

So you moving to Banglore - job change or hubby moving?

So it is cloudy and rainy here in Alberta, Canada. We are hoping that next weekend will be awesome as we are off for 5 days fishing/RVing

The doctor who was attending to my fractured wrist on the night it happened asked, "what happened?" and I said " an elephant flung me" and he asked me what happened about 3 - 4 times coz he thought i was just being sarcastic as I was in so much pain!!
it is an incredible story. I look at it exactly as you do - it could have been much much worse. Also, if you look at it on the bright side: i'll have such a cool story to tell people. beats telling them you fractured your wrist from falling in the bath!
Moving to bangalore with the boyfriend :) i'll job hunt once I'm there.
have fun fishing...eat what you catch - it is carb free

Natasha! WOW! I mean WOOOOOW! That must have been SOME experience! But what a story to tell after you've healed! This reminds me of the time my family went rafting on the Beas river (Himachal). Our first time and have a super duper time, when, WHOOSH......my hubby falls into the river! The captain or whatever you call those muscle bound hulks who lead the group, swung the boat around (no mean feat in mid stream, I tell u....raging waters all around, snarling rocks...the works!!) and LITERALLY picked him up by the seat of his pants! When we finally made it to shore, all the others were very envious.....apparently hubby got a bonus (free dunking), which the others did'nt!!
Jas, good to hear from you. Terrible accident, I'm glad you escaped so lightly. Have fun fishing!

Lez, good to know you liked India well enough to come back again. I hope you have a wonderful time here, it's a great country!

You said I like India enough to return. :agree:

Well I like India enough to go and live there. I am in the process of opening an Indian bank account and getting a NIR permit, so from next November I will be in India for 180 days.

180 days should give me enough time to find a house in an area that I will be comfortable living in and hopefully not too much bureaucracy

Hi Soulnia.

I will be going with an open mind but, I’m almost certain it will be away from the big cities and it will be very close to the sea, I have a map and a computer so I can research and plan my trip.

To date, my plan is to fly to Goa and buy a motorbike, spend 2 weeks looking at property away from the tourist places, if I find a house that I like in my price range all well and good, if not I will carry on looking, that’s my plan.

Lez I see we have the same birth date (only, 30 years apart)
