Oh... I had three strawberrys today with my omelett and some whipped cream. But then I read that no fruit is allowed does that mean I have to start all over again. WhY doesnīt Atkins allow fruit under induction??

fruit contains natural sugar, something your supposed to eliminate during induction. i would just keep going with induction, and maybe do it for a few extra days

I wouldn't worry about 3 strawberries, it will not effect anything. Just keep on going with the diet.

The reason why fruit is not allowed is because of fructose (fruit sugar) In order for one to get into ketosis you have to deplete liver glycogen. Fructose refills liver glycogen first.
Basically stopping ketosis.
But don't worry about three berries.,

Also, no offense, but it's been said over and over again. Please, if you're going to Atkins properly, you really should read up on it first. Too many people say they're following it but really aren't (biggest mistake, from reading the boards? people not eating any veggies!). Either read the book, or at least check out the Atkins Web site, where there's a list of induction-acceptable foods.

My co-worker started Atkins last week and ate "Low Carb Pizza" on day 5.
I have very little faith that most people will bother following any program properly. What, read the book?

You can have a few strawberries from time to time after the first two weeks. Compared with other fruits strawberries are relatively low in carbs.

Please don't take offense by anything that is said here. It may come off as looking harsh but words that are typed do not have a tone of voice. Everyone chips in to offer help. Accept the help. Take the advice that suits you best and go on from there. Too many people get huffy after reading something that might offend them and leave without taking away the help that is offered. If anything has offended you please just ignore it. But, reading the book is good advice. It may be hard to accept but it should be taken seriously.

I didnīt mean to sound like an angry bi***. Iīts just that Iīve read and read and read again everything I could find about Atkins and the Induction (on the net) but I missunderstod the part about fruit. I thought berrys was allowed and didnt count as fruit, silly I know!! About the book, the only book they had in our local bookstore in town (live in Sweden) is atkins for life so I bought it but that didnīt help me now under induction. Thatīs why I need to ask theese at times stupid questions. I really apricciate all the help I get in here. But donīt just assume that people havnīt read anything.

Dear Kajosake,
You can find out about induction by visiting the Atkins website.
www.atkins.com
Here ias the exact page for the list of foods allowed on induction:
http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html
It would be a good idea to put your location on your profile so that it comes up on the left hand side. You won't get people advising you to buy things you can't get or giving you other unsuitable advise then.
If you would liek a copy of the Atkins book, I could mail you one from the UK if you could pay for it and the postage.
Yes, it is the newbie's site - please ask all you like. The only stupid question is the one which doesn't get asked!
Good luck.

Yeah, Atkins for Life isn't really the book you want to begin with but you are to be commended for reading. Hmmm, it is in your profile that you read that book.
I will let you on a little secret. Many of us began this way of eating wrong but we kept at it until we became wiser about our choices. I admit to eating whipped cream and raspberries while on induction. I lost 9 lbs at that time. I used just the atkins website and not any book in the beginning. The website is very very good. Perhaps you might want to read that. it is
