With all of the coordination of very fine movements and
pressures...foot positions, leg positions, leg pressures, hand
positions, rein pressures, butt position, body leans, etc,
etc, etc...it appears to be one of those complex athletic
activities that you practice, and practice, and practice, and
then, one day, all of a sudden, everything all comes together.
Gonna' take a lot of practice. One hour at a time isn't going
to cut it. But since it's a hundred million degrees Kelvin
outside, all day riding will have to wait a few months.

Jogging, turning, changing gaits, backing, all went smoothly,
then halfway through the hour, Pal apparently said to himself,
"you big heavy son-of-a-bitch, I've pussyfooted around with
you for an hour and a half...it's time to
GALLLLOOOPPPPPPPP!!!!"

Damn! The world goes by fast when you're way up there on the
back of the speeding beast. WOAH!!! Let's do that next week,
ok, Pal, big boy, nice horsy...

All this talk of horses, and previously of rodeos . . . the
group has gone western! Yee-ha!

You rodeo fans should come up to Calgary to take in the
Stampede - my first time here, good times and many a free
pancake. 2nd highest rodeo prizes in the world (after David's
hometown, of course)

Hell, Calgary is a great city, been here since May. 17th ave
during the playoffs was a blast, now the Stampede.
Surrounding area is great too, got in some camping & fishing
. . . my 2 months here definitely lead me to give the thumbs
up to the city.

<Usage Geek> You _do_ know that it is just Kelvin, not degrees

Really? I did not know that. Hold on, while I google...

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin
--------------------------------------------------------
----------
The kelvin is named after the physicist and engineer William
Thomson, who became Lord Kelvin when he was made a peer.

The kelvin as an SI unit is correctly written with a
lowercase k (unless at the beginning of a sentence), and is
never preceded by the words degree or degrees, or the symbol
°, like Fahrenheit, or Celsius. This is because the latter
are scales of measurement, whereas the kelvin is a unit of
measurement. When the kelvin was introduced in 1954 (10th
CGPM, Resolution 3, CR 79), it was the "degree Kelvin", and
written °K; the "degree" was dropped in 1967 (13th CGPM,
Resolution 3, CR 104).

Note that the symbol for the kelvin unit is always a capital K
and never italicised.

Well, I'll be damned. learn something new every day

I like hearing these stories, despite my smart-ass comments.
One of the reasons I started this whole
transformation/lifting-heavy gig was to be able to experience
the world in a wider way by making my body be more functional
and my energy level be higher. What you're doing comes out of
that same place. I respect it and it opens up other ideas.

Most folks here ride at night or early am. Most local and
even private arenas have lights mounted to accommodate
night riding. At the ranch Shadow was at before last, the
ropers would arrive about 7 pm and rope in the lit arena
until 11 pm or so.

hehe. That happens sometimes. That's why I usually gave
Shadow the reins and let him go sometimes. Let him get it out
of his system.

David, I have no explanation why neither of our emails are
getting through. Maybe we are jinxed. I thought for sure I
would receive them at my work addy, but I haven't seen any
from you yet.

If Art is comfortable enough with this, let's ask him to
send your phone number to me. His emails reached me at work
just fine.

I can call you. That may be the only viable option.

Weird.

I've been told my several that Calgary is indeedy a cool
place, and beautiful, too. My sister was there for the big
Calgary Round-up one year; said it was the best time.

I've always wanted to do the Amtrak train across Canada, going
through Alberta and Calgary. I just might one of these days...

Not in winter, though. Sorry. I'm a weather weenie.

Not bloody likely. Amtrak doesn't go into Canada.

Perhaps you are thinking of Via Rail, but I think its
transcontinental service was discontinued. (They forgot which
wheels go on which rail)

Heh, I've seen worse - I spent my childhood in northern
Alberta. At least there are Chinooks here in Calgary.

I admit though that the winters will be colder than they were
in NS. M'eh.

Bastards!

Nah, they still go across the country - I just checked the
price on a return fare to NS from here - and it's twice the
cost of flying. I guess I will be flying to my bros wedding
(why he gets married at 20, I don't know...). The train would
have been nice though, I have just enough time off work.

I have a perfectly reasonable explanation for this e-mail
subterfuge.

David is being targeted by wacko extremist hackers and slowly
cutting off all of his contact with the outside world. It is a
part of a much larger diabolical experiment involving space
aliens and the Nevada desert.

The next phase will no doubt involving torture by overly
intelligent and agressive emus. Then more gunsmith work on his
beloved Kimber by the same space aliens who did the original
work on the gun. Then all the horses will only walk and run
backwards when he rides them.

Slowly his existence spirals down into a black abyss of
despair and treachery.

In other words, the same old thing.

Bloody likely, it used to. I looked into this several

Yes. Or demonic possession. I never rule out demonic

Would you still "resent" it if she re-sent it "AGAIN", or is
your resentment a residual resenting of previous items re-sent
or not sent?

Ditzy, you might want to have an adult explain the map to you
and note that no Amtrak route goes ANYWHERE inside Alberta,
let alone anywhere near Calgary (see the context above).

Nice snipping, Buck-boy. You left out the part where you
claimed Amtrak doesn't go into Canada. You know, the part I
was responding to.

You're right that the OP isn't going to take Amtrak on a jaunt
across Calgary. BUT... here's the crucial thing here... YOU
WERE WRONG when you said it doesn't go into Canada.

I've done it. Took the Montrealer into Montreal, switched to
Via Rail to go 'cross Canada. It was seamless. Slow as hell,
but no portages.
