I just finished phase 1 and I lost 10 lbs in the two weeks which is great. 165/155/135. But I am really worried about gaining weight again when I start adding foods back in. Any advice on how to kick this worry? I am staying on phase 1 out of fear! lol

sbd4me,

Don't be afraid...but...be careful...add things back in slowly...

Add a piece of fruit or a whole grain item in and then monitor to see if they have an affect on craving or weight gain...it took me several weeks to add things back in. I really missed cereal so Uncle Sams cereal with strawberries was the first thing I had. Then I added whole wheat bread and LC tortillas. If Monika4 reads this I'm sure she will have some good advice. The most important thing is moderation.

Good Luck! Come back...there are several people here who are doing well with SBD.

Do pinto beans count as something I should be careful adding in? I think I will start with some dried apricots tomorrow. I am not missing the bread or cereal all that much so I think I will wait on that for a while. I decided that to curb my fear of gaining weight in Phase 2 I will just exercise more. lol I know a little faulty logic but I guess whatever works! Thanks for the advice and I would love more!

sbd4me,

I forgot to mention that dried apricots were also among the first things I added back...I had them for morning snack and for a sweet treat after lunch. I also had pinto beans in one form or antother around once a week...I love mexican food. Pintos never gave me any problem. In the good fats good carbs guide beans are recommended. Also, this SBD forum only goes back to around January...if you have time you might explore the posts...there is a wealth of great information...also, start a journal, it really helps keep you on track.

And as alwys moderation with all added in foods is the rule.

The following is from the official south beach news letter.

Day One of Phase 2

So you've made it successfully through Phase 1—now what? Proceed with caution as you begin Phase 2. Moving too quickly can cause cravings to return or weight loss to stall. Here are some tips on how to reintroduce carbs.

Start Small. Choose one carbohydrate—like a piece of fruit or a slice of whole-grain bread—and add it to one daily meal for one week. If after one week you're still losing weight and are free of cravings, then you can move on and begin adding more carbs. If your progress stalls, try a new carb until you find one that works.
Start With Something You've Missed. Dieters typically complain about missing their breakfast cereals the most when beginning The South Beach Diet™. If your cereal means a lot to you, try reintroducing that first, but make sure it's made with whole grains.
Expect Changes. The rapid weight loss associated with Phase 1 will not and should not continue into Phase 2. One to two pounds of weight loss per week is a healthy and achievable goal once you begin adding carbs back into your diet.
