This is a depressing story, so for those of you who do not want to hear something that might sway your morale, you may want to skip this..
A relative of mine came in from out of town a few days ago. I haven't spoken to her since before I started Atkins. She thought it would be nice to bring a gift for my husband and I, and she knows I love to bake (or I should say use to love to bake). What does she bring? A bread machine. Lovely gift, horrible timing. So I decide to leave it in the car for a few days because I know once I brought it in the house I would be tempted to try it out. My husband brought it in the house last night, not thinking about the whole temptation factor. Yesterday was day 6 of induction for me, today being day 7 and 1 week. So last night I broke down. I rationalized that I would just try it out and then send the bread over to a friend's house after I made it. This morning I wake up and the fresh bread is sitting in the machine hot and ready to be eaten. What can I say? I was weak :( I just *had* to try a taste seeing as how I made it myself. The damage done was: 2 slices of the stuff with some butter. It seems sadly ironic that I should do this on my one week mark of induction. Anyway what's done is done the rest of the loaf is long gone. When I say long gone I don't mean I ate the whole thing I mean I ended up feeding it to our dogs. I just had to get rid of it. No, it wasn't that good and I'm left with a load of unecessary guilt. So, my question is: what do I do now? I pretty much decided after swallowing the last of the second slice that I was just going to end the slip-up right then and stick to the diet. I feel too good to quit. The way the Atkins book talks it is like one slip and I will instantly regain the seven pounds I lost in a week. Logically I know that is not possible but my slip does have consequesces I'm just not sure what they are exactly. Has anyone else ever slipped up on induction like this and then pretended nothing happened and carried on? Did they regain some weight, or what is the deal? Any advice anyone has would be much appreciated. I think bread makers might possibly be :skull: the devils work.

You can't UN-do it, so you just need to pick up and move on. Save the bread maker for the later stages of the plan, when you CAN use it for lc bread. I personally haven't had luck making lc bread in the machine, but there are plenty who HAVE.

There is no use beating yourself up over it. We all make mistakes.

I know that some people go back to eating bread after achieving their goal weight. I think that's a recipe for disaster and it's one of the reasons that many people relapse. My suggestion is to sell it on ebay. If that's not your thing or you don't have someone who can do that for you, then I'd give it away to either a friend or the Salvation Army or Goodwill or some similar charity. That's win-win. If you keep it, believe me it's lose-lose (and I don't mean weight :) ).

It's really easy in the begining to have these kind of slips. No matter how much research you've done, you are going to find your own personal pitfalls and road bumps (or blocks!!)

Week one I got hit with two biggies, TOM and a helpful spouse who ordered Chinese take out cause I sounded too tired to cook when I called from work.

Well that sweet and sour chicken just stood up, jumped in my mouth and forced it's way down my throat.

The REALLY bad part?? I was so buzzed from the sugar I didn't sleep at all that night.

The REALLY great part?? I have been VERY determined ever since. I'm writing off the first week as a testing of the waters. I did much better the next week and lost 8 pounds. This week? I'm really on target and acutally looking forward to jumping on the scale Friday!

Chin up, don't get down on yourself.

My sweet DH who is doing this WOL with me told me that he was originally going to buy me a new kitchenaid mixer for my birthday that I have been drooling over for the past three years until he realized that I really dont bake like I used to. He took me to Victoria's Secret instead!
