Hello! I work for a ABC 7 News in Washington, D.C. and am working on a story about a new MIT study that says low-carb diets cause depression. I was interested in seeing if there was anyone local who has had these problems... Thanks, Lauren

Hate to tell you this, but it certainly didn't for me! Is this going to be another Atkins/LC bashing piece? LC'ing is NOT for everyone, and Dr. Atkins say just that in his book, Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution. However, I can tell you that I have lost 40lbs and kept them off and I have been on the Atkins plan for a year. I have followed his plan from induction through pre-maintenance and I don't exist on meat, cheese and eggs! I eat loads of vegtables, feel better than I have in years, and no longer take an anti-depressent! Good luck in your venture, but please read up on low carb diets....the books, (and there are a number of very good ones out there besides DANDR), NOT previously published newpaper and TV reports, who consistently report that LC'ing is the above meat, eggs and cheese!

Again, good luck and I wish you well.

Fairfax, Virginia over here. ;)

Oh, and lowcarby - I'm going to have to denounce any claims that low-carb causes depression. If anything, my moods have improved! I don't suffer from depression, but seriously don't see how Atkins and other low carb diets can cause depression. As it was already said, this diet isn't just meat, eggs and cheese. And if you're smart, you supplement with vitamins and minerals.

I am absolutely certain that you can find some depressed people who are also LCing....just as you can find some WW who are depressed. And some Jenny Craig people who are depressed...and even some depressed vegetarians. ;)

Good luck on your story!

Lauren,

I’m depressed. I fell of the wagon yesterday and ate some carbs.... Just kidding :p ... I agree with Kayakker. I don’t think you’ll find anymore instances of depression among low carbers than any other group of dieters, no mater what plan they are following. How could staying away from refined sugars, flour, and processed junk (which isn’t even fit for animals) cause depression? For me personnaly Its had the oppisite effect. Before I forget what this thread is about....

Hello everyone I’m from Southern Maryland (that's the Bay Bridge behind me)

hi, I'm from Richmond on the old James River!

Lauren, LC doesn't cause depression, how could it? That's not even a scientific premise, depression is an emotional state, not physical

I've been low carbing for four years, I look and feel better than before I did and I love this way of life

and I don't think it's just me :agree:

Just a heads-up to everybody.

The "Reporter" as not been back here, so I think this story was bogus.

Beyond that, it would really be fun if all the 'locals' (or anybody interested) could get together for a Low-Carbing Convention; it would be nice to meet some other LC's.

I'm in Fairfax VA. Have to say that I love the low carb lifestyle! I've lost 20+lbs and counting! I feel great and I got to buy clothes the other day and cried in the store when I saw I fit into an outfit I would have worn in HS. WOW! No depression here, all smiles! My husband lost 12 lbs and counting...
