I can't seem to find fresh coconut on the SB lists of food. Does anyone know if you can eat it?

Unfortunately, coconuts and coconut milk are restricted foods on South Beach due to the high saturated fat content. 2 Tbsp shredded unsweetened coconut or 1 Tbsp unsweetened coconut milk are listed in the Good Fats Good Carbs Guide as "Limited". Coconut oil is to be avoided altogether.

:(

Hmmm. Thanks for the info. My favorite Thai place has fresh coconut juice from the coconut (not milk) and then I usually take the coconut home and scrape the flesh out of it.

I did it the other day and I seem to still be losing so I will mark it in my mind as limited. :) My SB diet is a hybrid anyways with a bit more sat fat then the book recommends. I am just not afraid of the stuff!

Have you read the sticky at the top of this forum? Many on here feel that there is no danger from saturated fat, just carbs. Also in the suppliments section there are multiple threads on the weight loss properties of coconut and coconut oils.

Since South Beach is higher carb then atkins in the begining it is lower fat, but they are about the same during maintanance.
