hi, i want to know if any one else is just into eating fruit and veges and some meat.
i did the atkins scene but failed miserbly as i wanted more veges then what was allowed and and cheese in any shape or form stalled me and caused me to gain. so far ive lost close to 15 pounds in three weeks and feel great with no sugar cravings.
i just want to know if any one else is having luck.

Hi! Maybe you're one of those people who do better on the higher carb, lower fat diets. I think if it works for you, that's what you should do! :)

People like me, though, don't do well with the carbs as they result in ravenous hunger with no or very little weight loss. I wish my body could process carbs like that, but alas, it just doesn't work--nearly every carb I eat just turns to body fat instead of fuel, and ultimately causes such spikes and dips in blood sugar levels I end up extremely sick.

If I had followed what my body wanted to do years ago, I would've been eating LC all along, but I was clueless. I've always been a person who needed plenty of meat, fats and veggies, and ate fruit sparingly, mostly when I could get my hands on locally grown, and the occasional orange or tangerine in the winter months. Ah, if I'd only known then what I do now!

i just want to know if any one else is having luck. Well, yes! :)

It sounds like what you're doing is more akin to a paleo diet - which doesn't include dairy products but includes fruit - or Protein Power, another well established low-carb plan. Depending on your activity level and metabolism, you start from 30-55 grams of carbohydrate a day. Cheese is not a requirement on any low-carb plan, it's an option. :)

You may want to read both Protein Power and Protein Power Lifeplan. Both contain excellent information. Neanderthin is a good place to start to learn more about the paleo way of eating.

As long as you don't have cravings and are feeling great, carry on!

If low carb is not for you don't force yourself to do it.
I'm sure you can keep calories down to lose weight with your willpower.

Please tell me a little more about what you're doing. I love fruit and find that it's the hardest thing to give up while doing Atkins and really struggle with the cravings for it and/or sugar. Giving up the bread and other starches is no problem and I could do with or without cheese. I'd love to lose 15 lbs. in the next 3 weeks, especially while eating my beloved fruit!
Thanks,
Amber

sorry its taken me a couple of days to get back with you but ive been working and dont have much time to spend on my computer.
about what i eat is just sliced of fresh friut like cantelope, and or watermelon
and any thing else i want for breakfast. i love fruit, and i have no problems with it spiking my blood sugar. i get no cravings of any kind from eating that
then i have sliced fresh veges for lunch and dinner,i dont cook them and i dont have dip. i just eat naturel. and sometimes i eat meat.depending on how i feel.
i hope that answerd your question.ive lost 15 pounds in three weeks and i do some exercising as well.
i also try and get a ton of water down me too.

You are wanting to lose 10% of your total body weight in three weeks - that's a pretty big order to fill. I'm concerned that this is an unrealistic - and perhaps unhealthy - goal. The closer you are to your ideal weight, the slower the weight comes off. For most women (near ideal weight) anything much over 1-1.5#/wk is generally discouraged.

Your present weight is already within the MetLife tables ideal weight range for medium framed women.

I'd recommend that you just stay the course, be patient, and accept whatever you happen to be at in three weeks. It's the rest of your life that matters and if you push too hard for an overly ambitous short-term goal you might drive your body into starvation mode which can really set you back. Or, if you have that goal and don't make it, you might get so discouraged you abandon your program altogether.

Good luck.

lottoloose, the only things I'd be real concerned about is that you are getting enough calories and enough vitamins and minerals. There are plenty of eating plans out there that include more fruit than Atkins, and I know some of them are awesome. I'm not a huge fruit eater (berries suit me best), but I'd probably just curl up and die without broccoli. ;)

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear on my last post. What I meant by "I would like to lose 15 lbs. in 3 weeks" was that lottoloose said she had lost that much in that period of time and I was saying that I also would like to do that. Not that I really expect to do that. Kind of like, if she can do it why can't I? I would be happy to lose 8 lbs. in the next couple of weeks. My goal was July 4th to be at 140 but I'm not going to be upset if I don't. I struggle with my cravings so much and I have to take this WOE one day at a time, sometimes one meal at a time. I am trying to incorporate more exercise and water into my daily routine to help speed the process. Thanks for being concerned about me, though. I really appreciate all the support!

Ah! I'm glad to hear that I just misread what you said. We see a lot of people come through that have highly unrealistic goals (and I would say that a large fraction of us have at least somewhat unrealistic goals, myself included) and a few of them are driven to do really drastic and dangerous things to try to achieve them. Good to know that's not the situation here.

Is a person supposed to stay on induction until they lose all the weight they want to?

Definitely not. If you want to stay on Induction, you can, and many people do. But, read Dr. Atkins book and he will instruct you how to move up the carb ladder. Some people find that they lose MORE weight when they add carbs. You won't know until you try. If more carbs stalls weight loss and/or creates too many problems with cravings and hunger, you can always go back to induction levels.

Most important - read your plan - know your plan - live your plan, then start tweaking!

Big dittos on what LCanita just told you - especially that last line.

Good luck.

I'm in agreement with the majority of the posters here.... That's water weight, and it will return the minute you go back to your old habits.
