My wife and I have been on SBD for 13 days now, and we just found out that she is pregnant. Do you think there is anything she needs to do special (diet wise)? Should she start adding in fruits now? I really like the diet and I would like for us to continue, but I want to make sure it does not affect her.

Thanks.

She should stay in the maint phases of either diet if she is pregnant. ;) I am now 27 weeks along and have gained 12lbs as I should staying semi LC during pregnancy. I use www.fitday.com just to make sure my calories, nutrition, carbs, protein etc are where they should be. Best of luck to you guys and CONGRATS!

<<edit.. Oh forgot to add, yes, she should also be eating plenty of proteins, dairy, fresh veggies, fruits, grains and legumes. She can still make choices that are low GI and will fit into the SBD though. >>

Cutting out sugar and flour is one of the bet things she can do for herself and the baby. While pregnant she only needs about 300 more calories a day, but a ton more nutrition. So it makes sense that those calories be packed with as much nutrients as possible in the form of protiens, veggies, fruits and so on.

Continue the plan together, it will be easier for her to do it with support. If you want to stay in phase 1, then just get fruits, more dairy, and whole grains for her. Make meals together while having an extra side dish for her. Since you are so close to your goal though having both of you move to phase 3 would be fine.

Just warn her many mother's on LC diets say they have very large babies :) must be all that protien.
