Happy Friday!!!! I wish I didn't let my mood be ruled by the scale, but unfortunately I do. And my mood will be very good today b/c I was down 1.5 to 147.5:) It is encouraging that Protein Power still seems to work for me. You always hear about how people go back to plans again and again, with less success each time, missing their "golden shot" or whatever it is termed anymore. It seems my body does respond best this way. It is amazing how much more "stable" I have felt the last couple days with my eating. It's so nice to have some fruit at breakfast and to have some nuts with lunch again. I haven't even snacked yet, b/c I haven't really been hungry. And I haven't yet caved to artificial sweeteners. Maybe since I've not had them in so long, I won't crave them anymore, and it's a definitely plus to my eating.
Last night I went and saw "Supersize Me." It follows the detrimental effects a man experiences when he goes on a McDonald's binge, eating nothing but McD's all day for 30 days straight. It completely renewed my focus on the importance of nutrition, NOT just weightloss. Sugar just isn't healthy for you, even if you can find a plan that allows it. Sure, it tastes wonderful, but it makes me feel like crap and I care too much about my body to allow myself to have it anymore. This is a major revelation. It's so sad that so many people don't seem to have the same concern for their body. The facts and figures they relayed during the movie were horrifying. So, I am on a mission now, new resolve to each healthier and purer than ever.
Have a great day!

Wendy, I know what you mean about trying not to make the scale the focus of this way of eating but there are somedays when that is the only thing that helps. Glad you are back on track and doing well.
I am down a half pound today. I hope that I can lose a few more pounds over the summer but with the effect of kids on my routine my true goal is to maintain my lose. I know the weight did not go on over night and it won't come off over night either. I figure one day at a time.
Have not seen Supersize Me, but I work with patients all the time who supersize their meals, even hospital food ( I don't know why you would want to). It always amazes me how they can't see the effect this has on their blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. I certainly am much more aware of their carb intake than they are. As I have done protein power, I wonder why doctors aren't more willing to try this with their patients. Some days, I want to scream at my patients "Try Protein Power and it will help your diabetes and your reliance on insulin" I know not everyone accepts this as a healthy lifestyle so they can't encourage it but if they would read the info. I can't see how anyone wouldn't find the research worth a try.
My girlfriend is doing Zone and she keeps indicating how inflexible my plan is especially compared to her plan. I finally read some of her books, she was relying on THe low Carb bible which says PP is very inflexible. So for everyone who has tried other LC plans, how does this stack up as far as flexibilty? I feel I have lots of options which I keep telling her, but how are the others?
Oh, one more comment Nelson, I am a lifetime weight watcher member, we do not always focus on the plan. We do look at all the other aspects of our life and how to fit the two together. ( Ok, I am done!!!)
Going to clean the house today. I guess that will have to be my workout today. Lots of stairs, much laundry to do and put away.
Have a good day

Sat: 34 gms 304 cal 36%
Poly: 11 gms 98 cal 8%

Cindy(WaterAngel)
Glad you are going to stay with us.
Ellie (Chamellie)
Great to see you yesterday. Know your workload has been really heavy lately.
WTG with the exercise program.
Bawdy:
I have to admit being worried about you not eating, but I do understand.
Lisette:
Where are you?
Elaine (Ewinpa):
Wonderful to see you. How are you doing these days. Know you were struggling with fatigue.
Re: the little one - she is doing very well. She is in the regular nursery now instead of NCIU or NCC. She will likely be able to come home around July 1 per docs. My granddaughter is starting to get some closure with the loss of her other daughter.
Re: the old board. Some unbelievable things have gone on. What happened to me was far from an isolated incident or a new development. People have come to the new site who were similarly treated long before I was.
Wendy:
Congrats on the loss. Glad you are feeling more stable with your WOE.
Echo your sentiments re: Supersize Me thinking.
Song: Congrats again on your excellent progress.
Did you get to walk this morning?
Unity, what's going on with you these days? Talk to us, girlfriend.
Therese (Shrubbie):
Enjoyed your comments re: the daily thread
Re: PP & flexibility - I feel PP is one of the more flexible LC WOEs. PP has no forbidden carby foods - well maybe white sugar? - so I can choose any food that is within my carb limit. How much more flexible could a plan be?
Michelle (Acipenser):
Great to see you - liked your views on the daily thread
Nelson:
Hope you will check in now and again - or daily - to let us know how you are doing.

Good morning, it's so good to see Wendy and Orang back !
I am feeling better in that we got a yearly bonus at work and I am paying off some debt which will take away some of the emotional stress that's been going on with me. This will help me refocus on the WOE. I also ordered two new exercise videos aimed at my age-Keeping Fit in you 50's aerobics(get these at Overstock, you can buy them separately, there's two more in the series and everyone else sells them as a whole set) and Winsor Pilates Easy beginnings from CollageVideo. Those were my treats.
Also ordered my fave Keto shake mixes online, which I like during the summer when I don't want heavy meals. These have no soy, that's why I get them.
So I am in re-commit mode and happy about it. :)
Now we need the Brazen Hussy to drop by

Orang, thanks for your thoughts. I feel it is really is easy to do as long as I stay within my carb count. I watch my fats and calories but I think unlike the Zone I would probably go crazy with trying to balance equation. I am trying to eat health not do Algebra. The Zone in some ways reminds me of when I use to do WW before they had points plans ( you were always trying to have so many of each class). I certainly don't miss WW days and I feel a lot better about myself than I did there. Plus even when I did lose my weight I still needed to take my cholestrol and blood pressure meds. I love the success I have seen so far.
Glad to hear the baby is doing well. Granddaughter will I am sure need time. As we say here, take it day by day.

Therese, although I am struggling right now I am healthier than when I did WW. I lost 28 lbs, down to 198 but my triglycerides were 225 and my cholesterol was 242. Since going LC, the first is down to 67! and the second is at 225. Now I'm trying to work on lowering the cals I am eating in order to shed the weight I put on after my surgery (11 lbs).
Sounds like you're doing ok!! :)

 ladies,
Busy, busy today! :hyper: Ladies, are you having fun? It's going to be a very hot day! Wash day! A little late for "spring cleaning". Yesterday I forgot to eat breakfast and lunch because I didn't want to stop doing what I was doing "organizing my den/office", and throwing away my mother's papers. I got rid of her furniture but not her papers before I moved last August.
Before I started my day today, I did eat egg on toast and had a protein drink for my AM snack. I'm using a timer to do anything that needs cleaning, organizing or fixing. Fifteen minutes to 30 minutes, I change back and forth so I won't get stuck doing one thing all day. Good idea :exclm:
Have a good day!

Hello, Ladies! BawdyWench (aka BrazenHussy) here!
Oops! I dropped a stitch. Oh, that's knitting, right? ;)
So, PP topics first and foremost. I admit to not having read every single plan out there, but I have studied (and I mean studied, not just read) Protein Power and Atkins, and have read the CAD Lifeplan book, The Zone book, and one Somersizing book. I find the PP plan THE most flexible of all. Nothing is forbidden. Not even sugar. They frown heavily on it, but do talk about one man they helped who spent his 30-gram-per-day allotment of carbs on one candy bar that he loved. They weren't crazy about it, and mentioned that it would be much better for him to have chosen nutrient-rich carbs instead, but shrugged it off as he's doing much better than he was, and given time he'll start adding veggies.
Wendy, you and some others mentioned how you don't understand how other people can't seem to see what the high sugar products are doing to their bodies. You say they make you feel bloated and crappy (they do to me, for sure). But think about it. When you were eating high-carb, did you realize all the nasty things carbs were doing to you? I sure didn't. I never realized it was the carbs that were making me bloat so much after lunch that if I unzipped my pants, it was all I could do to get them zipped up again afterward. And those awful welts around my waist from too-tight waistbands. All due to carbs.
Orang, I am eating. Sometimes not well, but I'm definitely eating. And I do compensate. Yesterday I had a protein shake for breakfast (extra on the whey powder so I got probably 40 grams of protein in). For lunch, the only thing around was Wendy's. Sure, I could have ordered a double cheeseburger no bun. Instead, I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich with fries (ate half the fries). But then I had no dinner. And for several days beforehand and now for several days afterward, I'll be self-limiting the food. I just don't like eating that much food in one sitting anymore.
As I've said, veggies have been scarce, but I'm getting adequate protein. Tonight my dinner was 6 saltine crackers spread with whipped cream cheese and each topped with a generous chunk of home-caught/home-smoked bluefish. Sooooo good! :daze:
And Therese mentioned the stairs as exercise. Been doing a lot of that lately. Our building has 2 floors, and for the past several weeks (months?) I've been climbing those stairs (in 3-inch heels) probably 10 or 12 times a day. They say it adds up. At least it's getting easier, which means it's doing my muscles good.
Speaking of stairs . . . does anyone else find it's easier to run up a flight of stairs than walk? When I walk, it seems like I expend so much more effort. I guess it's the same as doing slow, concentrated bicep curls as opposed to quick using-your-momentum curls. (Though lately I've been doing quite a few 4- to 6-ounce curls of Irish whiskey and margaritas!)
What's everyone doing for the weekend? I get to cut the lawn (did I mention that I killed a tire on the new tractor and had to get the tube replaced?), weed, and WORK, WORK, WORK?
Oh. Bonuses. Almost forgot. Elaine mentioned bonuses. Why is it people come to expect bonuses? A new incentive plan for this new project I'm on was unveiled at work today. During the meeting, no one said much of anything. Afterward, I spoke with a couple people, and all they could say was that we should be getting a whole lot more. We're talking an average of an extra $750 every month or so, plus the potential for another bonus of maybe $1000 every six months. That seems pretty generous to me. Whatever.
Oops. Sorry. That was off topic.
(Sorry again. I'm feeling a little pissy today.)
