Ok, I don't know if anybody other than myself is nuts about these over-priced
iced coffee treats made by Starbucks, but after watching my DH drink his w/
a rapturous expression on his face, I just KNEW I couldn't face the next 1 1/2
to 2 years without one. So I made my own:

Take one 20 oz water bottle and fill it 1/2 - 2/3 of the way with water

Add heavy whipping cream until the bottle is full (approximately 8 - 10 oz)

Add vanilla extract to taste

2 packets of Splenda

Add instant coffee to taste

Cap the bottle, shake well and VOILA!

The whole 20oz bottle has *about* 6 net carbs.

Enjoy!

OMG....thanks for posting this. i too am a frappuccino FREAK, and i was so sad to have to live without them.

i especially enjoy how simple your recipe is. of course, it's not EXACTLY the same as the original, but it definitely does the job of conquering the craving and not feeling deprived. thanks again!

Folks,

10oz of Heavy Whipping Cream has about 10 carbs. The two packets of splenda are 1g each.

That puts the bottle at AT LEAST 12g carbs, and the heavy cream, in this quantity, is at least 1000 calories.

If you're trying to follow Atkins by-the-book, they recommend limiting cream consumption to 2-3 T per day.

Feel free to have one -- but I would advise not too often.

Hi ~ My husband and I have been making this clone recipe for quite some time. Since we "Somersize" we don't count carbs, so I don't have the carb counts. My notes are in (....) We make up quite a bit at a time and pour it into saved Starbuck's bottles. Here's how we do it:

Starbuck’s Frappucino

1/2 cup fresh espresso
2 1/2 cups low carb Hood's 2% milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar (use substitute ofcourse)
*1 tablespoon dry pectin* (we omit this as it completely clumps up when making a sugar-free version, even using our Kitchen Aid blender to try to emulsify it.)

Combine all of the ingredients in a pitcher or covered container. Stir or shake until sugar is dissolved. Chill and serve cold. Makes 24 ounces.

Tidbits:

To make the "Mocha" variety:
Add a pinch (1/16 teaspoon) of cocoa powder to the mixture before combining. (We simply use the chocolate LC milk).

To fake espresso with a drip coffee maker and standard grind of coffee: Use 1/3 cup ground coffee and 1 cup of water. Brew once then run coffee through machine again, same grounds. Makes about 1/2 cup fresh espresso to use in the above recipe. Run a pot of water through machine, without grounds, to clean.

*This is a natural thickener found in fruits that is used for canning. You can find it in the supermarket near the canning supplies. It is used in this recipe to make the drink thicker and creamier, and can be found in the original recipe. It does not add to the flavor and can be excluded if you don't care so much about duplicating the texture of the real thing.

where do you get the LC milk? i've never seen any at my grocery store.

I assume that's the stuff where they extract the lactose and replace it with something else?

What does the nutrition info on the carton say regarding carbs?

Hey guys! I get LC Frappuccinos from Starbucks!

This is what you do:

Order an Iced Coffee or Cafe Americano, ask them to leave room for cream.

When you get it, ask for the heave cream they keep in the cooler.

Add cream and then add Spenda to taste (i add 4 for a venti and 3 for a grande)

Mix and enjoy! 4 to 5 carbs!

Hi Jamori ~ You can buy the LC milk at Super Walmarts. It's also available here in WA state at Albertson's, Safeway and Winco.

Here's their web page. Perhaps there may be a store locater on their site:

Posting my version:

2 cups Westsoy unsweetened soymilk
2-4 packet splenda (depends on your taste)
1-2 heaping tablespoons espresso powder (Medaglia d'Oro)
1 tsp almond extract (optional)

Mix well and pour into ice cube trays. Freeze. Remove frozen mixture into a blender and pulse until smooth.

HI
Went to Starbucks and instead of my usuall coffee and large cookie, got a
caramel cream frap. It seems to be mostly Ice and cream.
I hope it's low card!

Cheers
Bob

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's almost certainly not. Starbucks uses a powdered mix that has a LOT of sugar in it for their blended/iced drinks. Also, "caramel" ...

Starbuck’s Frappucino

*1 tablespoon dry pectin* (we omit this as it completely clumps up when making a sugar-free version, even using our Kitchen Aid blender to try to emulsify it.)

espresso: ~.1 carb/2oz -> .2 carbs
Hood LC milk: 3g carb, 1g fiber/cup -> 7.5g carb, 2.5g fiber
"Sugar" .. I'm guessing about 3-4 packets of splenda = 3-4 carbs (or use liquid sweetener for 0)

..sounds like it would serve several
great idea! :)

Actually a tall with no whipped has 62 carbs, a grande has 87 carbs and a venti has 115 grams. That count is without the whipped cream. With the whipped cream, you can add about 2 more grams of carbs. Definitely not low carb. You canb view nutritional info at starbucks.com. About the only thing I can find to drink that is not too bad is a shaken iced coffee...you have to make sure to tell them to leave out the classic syrup tho as it is full of sugar. Have them add a packet of splenda instead and then add some half/half if you like. The fraps are bad news...even the lighter version of them is still very high. These are rare treats for me only! I work for SBUX and get drinks free so it sucks that I can not drink them often although I think the fact that I used to drink about 5 fraps/iced mochas a day contributed to me being the size I was before I started low carbing.

lcmamainfl- I'd like to try this. I was just wondering if the instant coffee granules dissolve properly in cold water or do I have to use hot. I'm gonna try this with different flavors of sugar free Davinci syrups (to replace the vanilla) Starbucks caramal frappacino was my favorite BLC (before low carbing)
