Hi all,
Shall we do another dinner get together?
Anyone interested?

Absolutely! You're a mind reader, Wa'il! I just put a posting on the old Vancouver board asking if anyone wants to get together sometime soon for coffee. I'd love to meet you guys and put some faces to names! Count me in!

Great! I just saw your other post. How about coffee this weekend, and dinner the weekend after? Last was great at Stepho's. Karen? Deb?

Sunday's good for me too. 10am or 10:30 am? Same place, Starbucks on Davie and Mainland? Bring Io and Tobias!

I made it to your forum! Next Sunday for dinner would be great! November 12th. That is the week of Payday and I will be in town. I can hardly wait until I am back living in the local area as this commuting from Surrey is tiring when you do it 7 days a week!

Many apologies guys! My battery was dead when I went to start the car and I had to wait 1 hour for the boost to come along. So, I came home and hung around the board. I promise though, I will be there for dinner next weekend. I'll take a taxi!
Hope you had a great time,

Hi Karen, it was wonderful, sorry about your car!
See you next Sunday, seems like we'll be at least five for dinner!

Poor me; over here on the Island, a mere $98 ferry ride (with car) etc. away from meeting some of you.
For future reference, would a Late Luncheon be possible sometime? I figure I'll have to come visit Vancouver sometime in the next few weeks or months...

Sure thing, just let us know when you're coming and I'm sure a few of us will be available.
How many islanders do we have here? I have a feeling Victoria has many low-carbers, and soon enought they'll show up here and organize their own events as well.
Vancouverites are quite social, but we're nothing like Manitoba, they're on their 4th or 5th meeting by now!

Hey All,
Where would you like to go for dinner this Sunday? Is anyone game for a big load of wings at Earls?

Have you tried the Cactus Club Wings?
Okay I am partial to Cactus Club - especially the one at Broadway and Granville - We can get one of their big booths and their dry ribs are excellent too! Plus they use diet coke instead of diet pepsi! Big Plus!!!

Would any of you dinner folks like me to pick up a few Ross Chocolates for you in Cloverdale? They have Milk Chocolate, Peanut, Almond, and Coconut (2.1-2.9 carbs per 35g bar) and Dark Chocolate (1Carb) they are $1.80 per bar - that includes tax. I am going on Saturday and would be happy to bring some for anyone to the dinner.

Yes, please, on the Ross chocolates! I've heard so much about them I'm dying to try them. Also I can give some to my mom, who's diabetic (and eats chocolate anyway, naughty!).
Could you bring me 3 each of the milk chocolate, almond, coconut, and dark? That ought to last me for ages. If enough people want some, maybe you can get a bulk discount! Thanks so much for your offer.
As to where to meet, I'm not fussy . . . Wa'il mentioned Steffo's on Davie, which sounds yum too (and cheap). But I don't really mind where we go.

Oh, I just thought of something. I've been to that Cactus Club and it's pretty noisy (though maybe a Sunday would be quieter). I have some hearing loss and it's really hard for me to follow a conversation in a clattery, music-y environment - and I really want to talk to you guys!
Wherever we choose, can we find somewhere on the quiet side?

Cactus, isn't that like hooters? I won't hear a thing, but the reason won't be the noise! :p
I liked Stepho's, and have no idea about Earl's, but suspect it will be great, since Karen picked it ;)
And I never tried Ross bars, so please get one for me Kathy! I'll go for the milk or dark whichever's left on the shelves!
Thanks,
Wa'il

Down Wa'il! Cactus Club is like the younger sibling of Earls. Not that Hoot-y at all!
I'm willing to go anywhere non-challenging--that is cheap and cheerful. Should we vote?
BTW, I taught my second-of-the-season low-carb class at Tools and Techniques in West Van tonight. There were 20 people there, and they went wild. I converted someone to liking eggplant and interested a few in the WOE. Hurray for our side!

Hehe, well the Cactus Club in Richmond seemed like one. Any time we go for a business lunch, no one talks business! :)
O.k., votes, I'll vote for Stepho's

I'd like to try Steffo's too. Partly 'cause it's close and I can walk there (burn off a few calories!) and partly 'cause I know the CClub is noisy. But I'm happy to go wherever the vote takes us.
And good on you for that low-carb cooking class, Karen! I'm dying to meet you! My ex-sister-in-law is a food critic, maybe we can get her to do a spot on low-carb? I'm not sure how that would work, but we can discuss it if you like.

I'm drawn towards the Earls on Robson because they can better accomodate a large group and we probably will be seated quickly. We may have to wait a while outside at Stepho's. But if the groups votes Stepho's, then Stepho's it is!
I am really looking forward to meeting you too Rachel. Would your ex-SIL be Kasey Wilson?

My vote is Stepho's this Sunday and Earls in January - Maybe by March I will get you all to My Cactus Club!
Now on the Chocolate subject:
Rachel that is 12 bars which comes to $21.60 is that correct!
Thanks,
K
PS Who is the sixth person?
Kathy & my roommate Joan
Wa'il, Karen and Rachel who else?

6:00 PM sounds good, they allow resevation if we're more than 5 right? In such a case we won't have to stand in line.

Hi Karen, I live in West Van and I didn't hear a thing about your class at Tools & Techs until just now (too late). Are you planning anymore classes on the North Shore in the near future? I have a friend & lowcarber who would probably love to go along with me. She knows a gal in Deep Cove who is low carbing and I know another woman from my kids' school who does Atkins & she might also like to sign up.
Also sorry to hear about the Sunday dinner so late. I just heard about this site tonite. I am busy on Sunday with a family birthday party which will certainly be High carb. (I am taking devilled eggs so my hubbie and I will have something to eat.) Maybe my pal & I could join you for one of your Sunday morning coffee get-togethers soon. Will look for the posts.

Hello vg,
I've already planned my schedule at T & T for next spring but didn't include another low-carb class. It may have been a mistake! I teach at other venues in Vancouver too, and may be able to schedule a in low carb class next year. I know that if 16 people register, a class can be held at Caren's Cooking School in East Van. Is anyone interested?
It's good that you will be bringing your own LC food to the party. I sometimes even eat before going to these events so I won't be tempted.
Welcome to the group!

6:30 is fine with me. I recieved an email from Deb saying she won't be able to join in our merriment this Sunday. She has a cold. So it looks like we have 5 for dinner.

So the consensus looks like 5 people for 6:30. Is that right? Should I make a reservation, or is someone already on that?

Oooh, whee, we's in big trouble. I just called Stepho's and the only two reservations they have available for tomorrow night are 4:30 and 8:00. So I made the reservation for 8:00 (under Shepherd, since everyone knows how to pronounce it). The person I spoke to suggested that, if we want to try to get in earlier than 8:00, we arrive at 6:00 or 6:30 and start lining up. If we get in earlier by lining up, we can cancel the reservation.
In order to claim the reserved table, all five of us have to be present.
So my suggestion is that at least a couple of us arrive at 6:00 and line up. I can be one of them. Anyone care to join me? Or would a change of venue be more practical?

I wouldn't mind changing the venu, but maybe not all others will get the message by then? Kathy?
The lineup moves rather quickly, so we can be there around 6:20pm ?

I agree, it'd probably be too hard to change the venue at this late date - we can't be sure everyone will get the word by tomorrow evening.
Assuming there's no change in venue, I'll start lining up around 6:15.
