This is a House Committee chaired by Tom Davis of Va.
It has two panels on Obsesity.
The first panel is boring. Some clown form the FDA and some stooge from the Dept of Agriculture. The basically testify that the stupid Food Pyramid ain't changing and that the dietary guidelines from the US federal govt. will continue to promote carbohydrate/obesity. The only bright spot in that panel is Lynn Swan, the great football player. He chairs the President's Council on Physical Fitness, and he is funny. His testimony is exercise.l
Then, Stuart Trager from Atkins Nutritionals comes in. He is good. But his testimony is cut short when the Members of Congress have to run to a vote.
Chair then comes back after lunch (tunafish and a hotdog) to the second panel: Dr. Agatson, the South Beach guy. He is more interesting than I expected. He places emphasis on the Glycemic Index.
Then, the guy from the University of Toronto who came up with the Glycemic Index testifies. He does his country a disservice. He testifies that the US govt. should not do anything to change the dietary guidelines. A bit weird. (I think this is a secret Canadian attempt to kill all Americans.)
Then, some woman comes on. She is a dietician wonk. Typical drivel.
Last guy on the panel could be good. The dietician woman so nauseated me that I went off to type this post. Someone else will have to summarize his testimony.
The followup questioning from Tom Davis was interesting. He clearly gets the LC WOE and the Glycemic Index. The whole thing made me wonder how many Members of Congress are on an LC WOE.
Worth setting the VCR.
