I was checking ou a loaf of low carb bread (I know a no-no :nono: but stay with me on this) The low carb bread had about 12g of carbs per serving. So I picked up another regular (cheaper) loaf of bread and sure enough 18g!!! But The CHEAPER loaf's serving size was TWO slices, the low carb serving size----ONE SLICE!

Low carb anything costs more. A bottle of friggin water at the movies was 3$!!

Maybe we should protest...that's a way to get some exercise :D

I agree. It's really all a big joke. I laughed my tail off the first time I saw a commercial touting the Carb Free status of RUM! Hello!!! Like we don't know that liquor is sugar!

Take care and lots of luck!

As long as everyone is willing to pay insane prices for something marked low-carb, food manufacturers are just going to keep doing it, why not? It's insanely profitable for them.

You literally can take any food item and make it low carb by figeting with the serving size, that's why it's important to read labels carefully. Many times you'll find that simply eating a lesser amount of a regular product will fit in with your low-carb plan.

Actually rum is low carb. True, it starts out as sugar but it was explained to me that the fermentation process takes the sugar out. (like cooking with wine takes the alcohol out)

Hungry - anything to make a buck!

I am certainly willing to admit that I am wrong and would love to do so because I miss my rum but I was told by someone quite knowledgable on the board that all alchol including rum turns to sugar in the body and is thus a giant no-no.

I think Dr Atkins is rolling over in his grave, and the Mrs. Atkins is laughing all the way to the bank. I think all of this LC marketing is "crap"
Anyone who is LCing needs to be highly educated and well informed to protect themselves from the LC "marketeers"

I borrow a statement from Body builders "You cannot trust anything you read in a body building magazine", because the magazine has interests in the supplement they are selling.

I think the same applies for the "low carb" magazines.
"Buyer beware"

All alcohol will be burned by the body before fat is burned and will therefore slow weight loss. This is true. However, if one is going to drink alcohol there are some forms that are more lc than others. LC beer, rum, vodka would be among those.

I bought two of the Low Carb magazines recently. One was quite informative. I enjoyed the articles.

Both were full of adverts, but the second one seemed to be more advert-oriented - they even had ads masked as articles reviewing the various products.

Regarding alcohol - you burn it off first, so it hinders the fat burning process. Although low carb, not a good choice in quantities - you will know that your fat burning will cease until your body burns off the alcohol.

Rum, I think a more correct assesment on Rum and liquor would be.
Liquor will take you out of ketosis temporarily. The body can burn carbs, fat or alcohol for fuel. When alcohol is present it is utilized first. Therefore taking you out of ketosis.
The other problem is hydration. Have you ever noticed the next day after drinking you are down a pound or two.
Dehydration. Then the next couple of days you are way up.
That is the body "over reacting" to the dehydration caused by the alcohol.
I can drink if I don't want to lose weight. If I drink I can kiss a whole weeks efforts good bye.
Carbs 4 calories per gram,
Fat 9 calories per gram
ALCOHOL 12 calories per gram.
There is a high price to pay for a drink.
Drink responsibly, drink water!

The body burns any alcohol first. Your body goes right back into ketosis the minute all of the alcohol is gone. If you drink too much too often you are defeating the whole purpose of low carbing. A drink made with rum and diet soda has no carbs.
