I have a confession. I blew it big time yesterday. I don't know what the problem was or is, but I went off on an eating binge yesterday. I could feel it coming. I don't think it was anything that I had eaten to cause this, but you never know. I ate everything high in carbs that I could get my hands on. I was physcially sick during the middle of the night.

Today is another day and I plan on getting back on the wagon again. I am crossing my fingers that I can do it today because we are headed out to a BBQ. It is hard enough to stay straight :) , but now I am trying to get over a carb overload. I will see what happens.

Everyone have a great Memorial Day.

maybe you can remember how sick you were during the night, it'll help you to stay on-track. If I were going to a BBQ, I'd try to have a medium-sized meal BEFORE I left the house, so that I could keep temptation at bay. And then drink up some water when I got there. Usually, there are raw veggies w/ dip at these things, I can fill up on them.

Diane-I want to say that coming here to admit your mess-up is a huge accomplishment! So often when I make bad choices, I hide for a few days b/c I am ashamed. I applaud you for your courage. Was your binge part of your RM? If so, you probably didn't do that much damage. Anytime I seriously overdo an RM, I am usually so gross feeling the next day that I only have one CM, not two that day. That usually helps me to get things under control again.

Thanks to all of you who gave me suggestions for eating out yesterday. I did end up going out last night and I did end up choosing to have a dessert. My thinking was that this WOE is designed to that we do not have to skip desserts for the rest of our lives. I know I overdid it last week by having two huge desserts, but feel like I am moving in the right direction by only having one this week. Also, I prepared for it by only having one CM before and eating my RM earlier, at 3 pm. We ended up going to Cheesecake Factory, which was actually my choice. We split an appetizer of calamari, followed by two thin slices of their whole wheat bread w/ butter. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, peppers, tomatoes, asparagus, green beans, parmesan, and vinaigrette. I was shocked that I couldn't finish it. I never not finish anything! I knew ahead of time that I would be ordering my cheesecake, which I did, and could barely finish eating. I didn't eat again the rest of the night.

From my preparing (only one CM instead of 2), and choosing good foods (the salad) to fill up on, I am only up half a pound this morning. This is also typically my heaviest day of the month, the start of TOM, and usually two or more pounds are gone within a couple days. So, I am not going to beat myself up about the cheesecake thing. My goal will be dessert only once per week, and only as part of a healthy, balanced meal.

Welcome back to all of you who have been traveling this weekend. I'm off to go see Raising Helen. Have a happy day!

Hi all! I'd like to join in the daily support here! This is my first time posting on the CAD board--I'm following CALP myself. I'm 43 years old, soon to be 44. I just started this past Saturday. In the long run I want to get down to what I used to weigh about 20 years ago, around 125 or so, but for now I'm just wanting to get down to 132 as a short-term goal weight. I'm wanting to get control of my body and tone myself up a bit. I'm doing the CALP in equal combination with weight training at a gym. I went to a gym Saturday for the first time in about 20 years. I think I'm already beginning to feel a little stronger.

I'm going to the gym again tomorrow after work, and I'm surprised that I"m looking forward to it. It's one of those women-only gyms. I'm also trying to gather up more self-discipline to actually tackle my negelected garden. That is supposed to be my workout on the days I don't go to the gym. Like today. Hmmmm....I'm sitting here thinking I should do it....but having a hard time getting interested in sweating and hoeing for some reason....I wonder why.

Anway, my emergency right now is this: I am addicted to baby carrots! This is the only thing that gets me out of kilter so far on the CALP. I LOVE BABY CARROTS. Why aren't carrots included in the low-carb vegetables for snacking on? They have a lot of fiber and not that many carbs. I really have no desire for a candy bar or anything sweet like that, I just want baby carrots right now in a really keen way. What do you all think about this? Why aren't carrots an okay low-carb snack?

And also, I'm wanting nuts right now too. They're low-carb in small amounts, and high-fiber, and they're not on the low-carb snacks either, and I have a can of them sitting on the table about two yards away from me. It's really hard not to eat them when I know they only have about 4 carbs a handful. What should I do about this? I can eat a little spinach salad and cheese I guess. I don't know. Have any of you tweaked the food lists on the CAD plan a little? A few carrots and nuts would be only about 10 carbs all together. What do you all think about having a few baby carrots here and there? I know, it's not on the low-carb lsts, but it's the only thing that's getting me off-kilter on this plan and I really think this plan is great for me otherwise.

And I just want to say, congratulations to you all for all the progress I can see you've made so far! And Diane, I'm sure you'll get back on track right away!

Adelante, carrots have a lot if sugar in them but on the bright side you can have a whole plate of them for your RM. I wish I was addicted to baby carrots rather than Starbucks Frappucino's-they have no nutitional value whatsover!
Dianee, good luck at the bbq! and hopefully you won't be too tempted. :)
Wendy, I love Cheesecake Factory and your RM sounded great!

This weekend has been so hard. Both DH and I had 4 days off together which is rare, so we were out a lot which meant eating out. So I made the restaurant meals the RM's one was breakfast, another day was lunch and yet another was dinner. I know we aren't supposed to switch our RM's around but if I'm going out to eat I want it to be good kwim? :) I did have a Starbucks slip-up and a late night snack snuck in there too, but I'm looking forward to getting back to regular life. So needless to say the scale has not budged.
edited to say the scale did move down by 1/2 pound, I'm shocked...I'll have to change my profile!

Hi everyone,

Wanted to tell diane that I too think its great that she is able to journal the good and the bad days both. I know I have a tendency to skip the website when I have failed at my eating plan. I guess we need to remember that is when we need the support the most. Tammy

Hi Adelante

Welcome to CAD. I think you will enjoy CAD. It is such a liveable program. Unless you are like me and do stupid things and make stupid choices. :)

The carrots and the nuts both are not on the list because they will cause you to crave and even stall you weight loss. The carrots have a lot of sugar in them which will cause your insulin to spike and the same way with the nuts. The object behind CAD is to not to have any insulin spikes during your 2 CM's and snack and that is what will happen if you eat nuts, carrots, broccoli, a lot of onion, tomaotes etc. Anything that is not listed in the book for your CM's should not be eaten. You can have food like this for your RM. I need to ask this, are you a carb addict? Did you take the test in the book? For most people that are carb addicts, eating a carrot can cause them to have severe cravings for other foods, and the same goes for nuts, fruits any kind of grains etc.

I hope this helps.

Well guys the BBQ didn't go all that well. I went to it with every intention of not sticking to plan. I blew it too bad yesterday, so that gave me an excuse to not be good today. BUT tomorrow is another day and I will comitt again. It is much easier for me to get back on the wagon when I am working then when I am home. I really don't know what set me off, but it must have been something. I rarely go off of plan unless I have eaten something that causes the cravings to start. I will have to take a look at what I ate. I for the life of me can't think of anything off hand. Who knows, maybe it was my hormones. :D

Thanks everyone for the support. I am so glad we have our Daily Support going now. It really does help.

Have a good eveing.

Hello, all.
Dianee- that is the spirit. Tomorrow is another day to be on plan.
I was on plan today, and just couldn't figure out my RM treat. Peach? No. Ice cream? No. Can you beleive it ended up being a glass of chocolate milk and a cookie? It was just what I wanted.
Hope you had a fun holiday- see you tomorrow.
