Hi. I have been LCfor a month and have lost 14 lbs if I always use my morning weight. By the end of the day I am usually 3-4 lbs more than first thing in the morning. Why? I wanted to start a new thread for all of us because I am finding it too long and cumbersom loading (read old, slow machine)so I am hoping I can keep up quicker. All the support and encouragememt I read hear is wonderful because I know it is directed at any reader, not just the recipient(SP?):) Keep up the good work everyone and have a good one!

Weight fluctuations throughout the day are perfectly normal. I've read others report up to 8 lbs difference in a day, and personally I experience 3 to 5 lbs regularly. It's water.
First thing in the morning, we are slightly dehydrated ... we haven't consumed any water for 8 hrs or so ... We empty the bladder, then weigh. As the day progresses, we eat, drink ... of course these things have weight ... so our overall weight is more while these things are in our bodies. Digestion, sweating ... breathing even, and the normal day to day body processes help to keep things in balance.
The scales are only a guide. Best to weigh at the same time of the day, once only. Even better, weigh once a week ... again, at the same time of the day. This saves the frustrations experienced by the normal up-and-down fluctuations that occur through the day, and from one day to the next.
Congrats on the 14 lbs lost  ... and continued lowcarb success to you!

I know what you mean about not weighing the same throughout the day, and feeling a tad discouraged about it. I wish I had a scale (is there one out there, in Canada, that doesn't cost a fortune?) that was consistent, no matter where you stood on it. If I don;t like my reading, I know if I move just a fraction up higher, closer to the glass dial, it'll go down a bit. Then I wonder what do I REALLY weigh? Yes, I'm trying to let go of the scale obsession, but Atkins seems almost so good to be true, I think I still need that 'proof' that I'm not cheating or tricking myself when eating bacom with a fried omelet, with some cheddar melted on top. I'm eatting better now then before!

I weigh first thing in the morning. Just like Doreen said, we are releasing waste in the mornings, slightly dehydrated from our slumber.
Don't let the flunctuations drive you batty. Weigh the same time every time you go to weigh in. Everyone has their times to weigh. Some weigh daily, others weekly and others have control enough to weigh monthly.
I personally weigh every other day. I am a visual person and I stay consistent when I know what going on weigh-wise.
Happy Lc'in to ya,

I bought a Tanita scale a month ago and I love it! It weighs up to 440 lbs and seems to me to be very accurate. I bought mine here:

I find that I lose about two pounds consistently over night, but it's very easy to have up's and down's depending on how much I drink. Who drinks just a cup of water? I usually drink from a 24 once cup -- well that's a pound and a half right there. And it DOES show on my scale if I weigh myself before and after.
But, the thing to look for is the overall trend. Since it's been exactly one month that I've had my scale, I decided to plot my morning weights and then fit a line to it. It shows I'm losing at a rate of 13 pounds a month. At that rate, I should be down to 300 pounds by Christmas, and I think that's real cool.
Check out my plot by clicking on my "www" link...

I have been weighing in a few times a day but only count morning weight. I think though that I am going to start weighing less often here soon becuase I dont seem to be losing daily anymore and I dont want that to get me down. I've stayed the same all week...but last week I lost 6 pounds.... lol it's very odd how this happens!

I weigh daily because I'm afraid of missing a down day. If I weigh once a week it may be on one of those days that my weight goes up 10lb. Mind you it did and stayed there for a week, so I had to adjust my profile up. I'm just reading CAD and they recommend weighing daily and averaging out over the week. Sounds good to me. I take my nuft weight everymorning, but try not to stress out to much, not always easy when it goes up 5kg and stays there.

I've been tracking my daily weight on a spreadsheet too. I just recently added the 7 day average and it is wonderful to see. It is truly showing the trend and is very motivational. So even though there are ups and downs throughout the week, I can tell that I'm going down the right path. :wiggle:
